Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Returning to Konoha

The Rasenshuriken infused with Sage Energy detonated under Naruto's command.

In an instant, the high-speed vortex of chakra tore through the air, expanding outward into a storm of destruction dozens of meters wide.

At its heart, the dense compression of Sage Chakra erupted in a blinding white radiance, edges shrieking with a sound so piercing it was as though ten thousand raptors cried out at once.

The mountains caught within its radius did not simply crack or shatter. They were pulverized, ground to nothing, disintegrated into dust so fine it hovered like mist in the air. Not even rubble remained only fragments reduced to their smallest possible essence, scattered as a haze of particles glimmering faintly in the sun.

This was not ordinary destruction. It was the transformation brought by Sage energy, the kind of devastation that rewrote matter itself.

The ground in the storm's path was carved into spiraling trenches, several meters deep. Trees and stone alike were not merely thrown aside they were stripped apart, their very structure dismantled. Rocks crystallized then collapsed into dust, while massive tree trunks unraveled like paper, their fibers dissolving into nothingness.

And the Rasenshuriken did not end with the initial blast. It fed on the natural energy in the air, growing larger and more ferocious as though the world itself had become its fuel. The sphere of annihilation swelled to a hundred meters, distorting the very space at its core.

For a heartbeat, silence followed. Inside the epicenter, matter itself had been erased. It was a void, an empty zone where no sound, no air, no life remained. A brief vacuum shimmered with rainbow iridescence, particles refracting sunlight in strange hues.

Even the birds, stunned into stillness at first, scattered in panic, wings thrashing the air as they fled far away.

Fukasaku, the elder toad, inhaled sharply. "What… what a terrifying technique!"

Beside him, Jiraiya's face split into a grin. He pounded the ground with his fist, laughing so hard his shoulders shook. "Hahahaha! This is beyond even my Gamayudan! Minato, your boy… he really has become someone who surpasses even the sun itself!"

Naruto stood at the center of the devastation, breathing evenly despite the staggering power he had just unleashed. Without hesitation, he conjured not one but two more Rasenshuriken, each infused with elemental nature one of fire, the other of earth.

Flames licked along one spiraling blade, molten and furious, while the other shimmered with the weight of stone, dense and crushing. And yet, despite the volatile mixture, both techniques remained perfectly stable in his hands.

Naruto exhaled slowly. "No need to test further," he muttered, dispersing the twin jutsu before they tore Mount Myoboku apart. "I know where I stand now."

With a flicker, he was gone. His body blurred through space, and in less than a second he reappeared before Jiraiya and Fukasaku. The distance meant nothing to him now. His speed rivaled even the Fourth Hokage's legendary Flying Thunder God Technique.

Grinning, he pointed proudly at himself. "Jiraiya-sensei, Grandpa Fukasaku, I did it! I finally succeeded!"

Fukasaku nodded, his voice calm but his eyes wide with respect. "Yes, we saw everything. Your Sage Mode has already surpassed Jiraiya-boy."

Jiraiya's smile softened into one of pride. "Naruto… you've grown far beyond what I ever achieved. That's the mark of a true successor."

Fukasaku straightened. "Then let us proceed to the second stage of your Sage training." His tone was resolute, eager to press forward while Naruto's momentum soared.

Naruto tilted his head curiously. "Second stage? What's that?"

"In this stage," Fukasaku explained, "when you cannot maintain Sage Mode on your own for long, I will assist you. With me gathering natural energy for you, you'll be able to sustain Sage Mode indefinitely in battle without needing to stop and meditate."

Naruto's eyes lit up. "That's amazing! Let's do it!"

The toad elder leapt onto his shoulder, beginning the process of synchronizing with Naruto to balance the natural energy. But almost immediately, his body stiffened. An oppressive, hostile will surged from within Naruto, blasting him away.

Fukasaku tumbled across the ground, groaning.

"Huh? Grandpa Fukasaku, what happened?" Naruto rushed over, baffled.

The sage dusted himself off, his face troubled. "The Nine-Tails inside you… it rejected me. Its hatred pushed me out."

Naruto frowned, and Jiraiya's brow furrowed deeply.

The Nine-Tails' seal… could it be loosening? Jiraiya wondered grimly.

Naruto's thoughts were simpler, tinged with frustration. That fox is being troublesome again!

He crossed his arms. "Then I'll have a talk with Kurama before we try again. Otherwise, this won't work."

Fukasaku sighed. "That may be the only way forward."

Naruto turned to Jiraiya. "By the way, sensei, why did you come here in such a rush?"

"Oh, that's right!" Jiraiya slapped his forehead. "Today's the third stage of the Chunin Exams. The matches have already started! We need to get back now."

Naruto nodded firmly. "I left a Shadow Clone in Konoha. It doesn't have much chakra, but it should hold out for now. Let's go!"

"Grandpa Fukasaku, we'll be back after I settle things with the Nine-Tails!" Naruto promised.

"Very well. But don't forget," Fukasaku reminded sternly.

With a brief summoning ritual, Jiraiya called upon one of the messenger toads stationed outside the village. In a puff of smoke, he and Naruto vanished.

When the smoke cleared again, they stood high above Konoha. But what greeted them was not the peaceful village they remembered.

It was war.

The village lay under siege, transformed into a battlefield of fire and blood.

Two massive three-headed serpents slammed against the village gates, their colossal bodies thrashing wildly. Every swing of their tails shattered stone walls, every snap of their jaws reduced houses to rubble. The once-unbreakable gates of Konoha splintered like kindling beneath their assault. Shards of wood and stone rained across the battlefield.

The ground quaked with every impact. The deafening booms drowned out even the cries of shinobi fighting below.

Ninja squads launched coordinated jutsu, hurling waves of fire, water, and lightning against the monsters. Kunai and shuriken clattered against scales as small explosions peppered the serpents' flanks. Yet the efforts seemed pitiful against beasts of such magnitude. Entire squads were swept aside by a single strike of a tail, their bodies tossed into the air like rag dolls. Blood soaked the earth.

On the rooftops at the edge of the village, a shimmering violet barrier surged upward. Its translucent surface enclosed a wide section of buildings like a coffin, sealing whatever was inside away from the outside world.

But that was not the only threat. Beyond the walls, looming like a moving mountain, towered a beast far larger than even the serpents. Its tail lashed like a battering ram, and its hide was inscribed with shifting markings. With each attack, it raised sandstorms that consumed entire blocks.

The One-Tail. Shukaku of the Sand.

Thankfully, powerful shinobi intercepted it, hurling massive techniques to keep its fury contained outside the village. Even so, the tremors of its roars shook Konoha to its foundations.

The once-serene village was now a city of fire. Explosions erupted in every district, flames consuming home after home. Smoke rolled skyward in thick black plumes, turning the sun's glow into a dim, sickly yellow.

Amidst the chaos, every sound was a scream of despair. The boom of collapsing houses, the crack of steel on steel, the shrieks of the wounded, the cries of the dying, the roars of enemy forces drunk on bloodlust together they wove a symphony of horror.

In narrow alleys, Leaf shinobi clashed with foes garbed in Sand and Sound uniforms. Kunai whistled through the air, paper bombs flashed, and blades clashed in brutal close combat. From the rooftops, others hurled attacks down into the melee, while specialized squads tried desperately to stabilize the lines.

Even as shinobi fought, civilians were being evacuated. Mothers clutched sobbing children, elders stumbled forward with fear etched on their faces. Jonin and chunin guided them toward shelters, but every path was fraught with danger. Collapsing buildings or ambushes by enemy infiltrators repeatedly cut off escape routes, scattering the crowds and leaving even more bodies in their wake.

Fear spread like ink soaking into paper, heavy and suffocating. Under the shadow of titanic beasts and the weight of unrelenting slaughter, both civilians and shinobi alike felt their courage falter.

For many, the hopelessness was overwhelming.

And Naruto, standing on the edge of this nightmare, clenched his fists tighter.
