The courtyard was drowned in silence for half a heartbeat—then the Kumogakure leader lunged at Raven, his kunai slicing through the air. Raven moved the same instant, her tiny body a blur of motion as chakra surged through her limbs. Her own kunai met his with a metallic screech. The collision was brief, but the shockwave cracked the paving stones beneath her feet.
The man's blade shattered on impact, shards bursting outwards like shrapnel. He screamed, holding his mangled hand as blood sprayed across the stone. His eyes widened in disbelief. "You little bitch! What the hell is wrong with you? What kind of three-year-old has this kind of power?!"
Raven stood still, her breathing calm. "A three-year-old whose best friend is one of the Senju."
Raven's violet glowed like ripples across a still pond. "Now you will know despair." She dashed forward again, the Strength of a Hundred giving her body strength that no three year old should have. The man staggered back, narrowly avoiding the follow-up strike that would have pierced straight through his heart.
He twisted away, his face contorted with rage. Blood dripped down his wrist as he drew another kunai with his one good hand. "You may have strength, but that's nothing in the face of technique!" He formed hand seals with blinding speed and shouted, "Fire Style: Phoenix Fire Jutsu!"
Flames erupted from his mouth, curling into a spiral of searing heat that swept across the courtyard. The air shimmered; the ground scorched black. Raven didn't flinch. Her fingers formed a counterseal as she exhaled, "Water Release: Thousand Waves Jutsu!"
The ground trembled. Water exploded upward beneath her, forming countless rippling surges that crashed together into a roaring tide. The waves struck the fire head-on—steam erupted instantly, hissing and boiling as the two forces collided. The courtyard filled with white mist, blinding and dense.
When the haze cleared slightly, Raven stood firmly in the center, her chakra pulsing in soft blue light. "The nice thing about natural chakra," she said evenly, "is that I can convert it into any elemental chakra I need."
The Kumogakure ninja gawked at her through the drifting steam. "What the hell are you talking about?!"
Raven's voice was calm. "Never mind. I'm experimenting. Consider this my first live fighting exercise."
"Shut the hell up and die!" he yelled, running forward. His kunai slashed through the mist toward her neck—his steps fluid, and confident. The blade struck Raven, sinking deep into her body then the body he hit dissolved into smoke.
A substitution log hit the ground where Raven just stood.
The man froze, horror dawning too late. Behind him came her voice, soft and mocking. "Have you ever heard of a substitution jutsu?"
Raven appeared in an instant behind him and drove her kunai through his neck. The tip burst out his throat in a spray of blood. He gasped, eyes wide, the kunai in his hands falling from his fingers. His knees buckled. "What… what are you?" he choked.
Raven's expression didn't change. "I'm something beyond your comprehension." She twisted the blade free, then kicked him under the jaw. His skull cracked open with a wet, squelching sound. As his body hit the ground and didn't move again.
The courtyard went silent except for the faint hiss of steam. The remaining three Kumogakure shinobi stood frozen, eyes wide, the moonlight glowing off their sweat. One of them stumbled backwards and shouted, "Forget the little girl! Quickly, grab Hinata! Let's get out of here!"
Raven turned toward them slowly, her kunai still dripping. "Do you really think I'd let you touch her?"
They spun around—Hinata was gone.
For a brief second, panic seized them. One man shouted, "Where is she?! She was right there!"
Raven lifted her gaze upward. Her shadow clone—stood high among the branches at the edge of the courtyard, Hinata held tightly to its back. The child's wide eyes watched the chaos below, her small hands trembling against the clone's shoulders.
"Don't worry," the clone whispered to her gently. "She's almost done down there."
