Chapter 60 - Elemental Affinity

Hinata's tiny hand trembled as she extended it toward Raven, her voice soft but full of pride. "I'm Hinata Hyūga, the future patriarch of the Hyūga Clan!"

Raven blinked, tilting her head with a faint look of disbelief. "Are you sure you want to be the future patriarch of the Hyūga Clan?"

Hinata nodded hard, the twin pigtails behind her head bouncing with every motion like small white tassels. Raven's breath caught as she pressed one hand against her knee, trying to steady herself from what could only be described as an overwhelming wave of cuteness.

Hinata's small face lit up as she declared, "Of course! I'm going to be the strongest kunoichi in the whole world!" She raised her chin toward the night sky at a perfect ninety-degree angle, her hands clenched tightly in determination.

Raven clapped her hands together, her eyes widening as she said warmly, "I believe in you, Hinata! You will be the strongest kunoichi in the entire world!"

Then, in silence, she added with a faint glint in her eye, "...besides me, Tsunade, and Mei. We'll stand at the pinnacle together."

Hinata straightened, shoulders proud. "I've been working hard on chakra extraction!"

Raven crouched until she was eye level with the little girl. "Why don't you show me what you can do?"

Hinata hesitated, glancing left and right as though afraid her father would appear from the shadows. "I haven't exactly gotten the hang of it yet," she admitted in a small voice. "I'm still practicing."

Raven offered an encouraging nod. "That's fine. Show me anyway, and I'll see if I can give you a few pointers."

Hinata sat cross-legged on the grass, smoothing the front of her kimono. Her tiny hands pressed together, and she closed her eyes in concentration. Raven activated her Rinnegan, the violet rings glimmering faintly as she observed the faint blue chakra flickering around Hinata.

"She's drawing it in," Raven thought, "but she's leaking it immediately. No refinement, no retention."

Aloud, she said gently, "You're pulling energy into your body, but you're not refining it into your chakra coils. Chakra is made by mixing physical energy from your body with spiritual energy from your mind. If they don't blend evenly, the chakra escapes before you can store it."

Hinata tilted her head. "What does that mean?"

Raven picked up a leaf from the ground and placed it on her palm. "Think of it like this. Your body is a container, and chakra is water. If the container has holes, the water spills out. Meditation closes those holes. It focuses the spiritual energy while your body provides the strength. You have to mix them inside before letting chakra flow outward. That's how you increase your capacity."

Hinata's lavender eyes widened with awe. "I never knew you had to refine chakra like that to keep it in your body!"

Raven's jaw dropped slightly. "Wait—no one's taught you this? Not even your clan instructors?"

Hinata shook her head. "The elders just give me scrolls and say I should figure it out like a prodigy."

Raven pressed a palm to her forehead. "Unbelievable. Neglecting a cute little bean sprout like you… what a crime."

She gestured with one hand. "All right, try again. Focus on your breathing and the point in your belly. That's where your chakra center is. Feel it mix and settle before you release it."

Hinata nodded eagerly and closed her eyes once more. Her breathing steadied, slow and rhythmic. This time, Raven saw the chakra shift—its color brightened, its movement smooth and controlled. A faint, steady blue aura surrounded the little girl like soft moonlight.

"That's it, Hinata," Raven whispered, her tone proud. "You're doing it right now."

Hinata's eyes fluttered open in wonder. "I can feel it inside me! It's warm!"

Watching with the Rinnegan, Raven examined the shape of Hinata's chakra and frowned thoughtfully. "Tell me, Hinata—do you know your elemental affinity?"

Hinata blinked, confused. "Chakra has elements?"

Raven groaned and rubbed her temples. "Yes, of course it does. Every ninja's chakra leans toward one of five natures—Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, or Lightning. That's called your elemental affinity."

Her gaze sharpened again as she studied the faint ripples of chakra around Hinata. "Yours is Water. It flows softly but carries strength underneath—gentle, adaptable, unyielding. It suits you."

Hinata gasped. "So I can use Water jutsu too? Not just the Gentle Fist techniques the Hyūga use?"

Raven nodded. "Exactly. Learning Water Release will help your chakra control and your movement. And with more training, you could even combine Water with Wind and form Ice Release. You'd be able to wield both water and ice freely."

Hinata's expression filled with wonder. "You can really teach me that?"

She jumped up in excitement—then immediately tripped over the long hem of her kimono and fell forward, face-first into the grass.

Raven couldn't help the quiet laugh that escaped her. She knelt and helped the girl up by her shoulders. "That's the second time you've fallen tonight. Why are you training in that outfit anyway?"

Hinata's cheeks turned crimson. "M-My father said I had to. It's proper for a Hyūga heiress."

Raven sighed, shaking her head. "Of course he did. We'll work on proper training clothes next time. You can't change the world in silk, little one."

Hinata giggled softly, brushing grass from her sleeves. "Okay!"
