Disguised as an Elder of the Hyūga clan, Raven walked calmly through the main courtyard with Hinata trailing behind her. She kept her chin high, pace measured, projecting absolute authority as they approached the front gate.
"I'm just taking Hinata out for a stroll. There is othing strange about it." Raven said with a deepened, male voice.
The two Hyūga guards immediately bowed.
"Yes, sir!"
Hinata blinked as the gate was unlatched.
"Really? You're just going to let me walk out the gate like this? You're not going to question anything?"
"Silence, Hinata!" one of the guards snapped. "We would never dare question an Elder of the Hyūga clan."
Hinata turned to Raven with a blank stare. "You're right. They really are stupid."
"If an Elder says we're stupid, then we're stupid!" another guard said.
Raven sighed and kept walking. "Later!"
"Yes, Elder!" they called out as the gate closed behind them.
Once they were a safe distance away, Raven released the Transformation Jutsu in a quiet shimmer of chakra. Her small frame, white hair, and violet Rinnegan eyes reappeared as she stretched her arms.
"Hinata, I told you I'd fool your gate guards—and everyone else in your family—by posing as an Elder," she said. "The rigid social structure of the Hyūga clan needs to change."
Hinata scratched the side of her head. "You're right, Raven. Everything you've been telling me lately about reforming the Caged Bird Seal and changing the Hyūga clan… I never realized how rigidly stupid everyone is."
"Good," Raven replied, hands folding behind her back. "You're learning quickly. You're going to be a true shinobi when you grow up."
Hinata's face lit up. "Thank you, Raven."
"So, you're helping me train today—where are we going?" she asked as they continued walking.
"We're going to the Uchiha compound," Raven said, adjusting the collar of her shirt.
Hinata hesitated. "I don't know if I'll be allowed inside the Uchiha compound. What if the Hokage notices?"
"Don't you worry," Raven replied, keeping her voice calm. "I have ways of making sure no one hears about this. Besides, I'm not the only one with influence over the village administration these days. Mikoto—Sasuke's mother—has quite a bit of control over the Uchiha clan right now."
Hinata nodded. "All right, Raven. If you think it's safe, I'll follow you."
"Trust me, Hinata. The future is far from bleak for you," Raven said, stepping confidently through the morning streets with the Hinata at her side.
They passed into the Uchiha district, where the red lanterns glowed faintly beneath the stone archways. Clan symbols were carved into wooden beams and doorposts, and cobblestone paths cut through orderly gardens and courtyards. As they entered, a young man emerged from one of the larger homes.
Itachi Uchiha stood there, carrying a book under one arm. His eyes locked onto the two girls.
"What are you doing here, Raven Kamazaki? And is that Hinata Hyūga? How did you escape your clan's compound? What's going on here?" he demanded.
Raven kept her tone calm. "Your mother invited us to train here—with Sasuke, Ino, and Naruto."
Itachi's brow twitched. "My mother… Mikoto… invited you here to train with the Uchiha?"
"That's right," Raven said evenly.
He immediately stiffened, his eyes going wide.
"If my mom invited you—"
"What?" Raven tilted her head. "You're not going to question us any further?"
"No, no, of course not!" Itachi said quickly, waving his hands. "I wouldn't dare question my mom. If she invited you here, then everything's fine! Nothing to worry about at all!"
"Don't you want to tell your father that we're here?" Raven added.
Itachi paled. "No, no! Are you crazy? You want my mom to kill me? I'd never tell my father anything like that!"
He stepped back several paces, looking visibly shaken.
It looks like Mikoto has put the fear of God into her children, Raven thought. She must be making them do too much homework.
Just then, Yumi appeared beside Raven in a ripple of silver light, her nine white tails drifting behind her like curtains in a breeze.
"You can't leave me behind, Raven. This is going to be excellent," Yumi said, brushing her tails with one paw.
"Fine, fine, come along," Raven muttered.
Itachi stared at Yumi, frozen in disbelief. "You… you have a talking familiar?"
"What? Want me to ask your mom for one?" Raven offered, her voice teasing but flat.
Itachi's face turned ashen. "Oh, I just remembered—I have somewhere to be!"
He spun around and took off down the path without another word.
Hinata watched him vanish. "He must really be afraid of his mom."
"I bet it's all the homework," Raven replied.
