My alarm rang loudly.
That meant it was time for me to go to school.
However, I preferred to continue sleeping. Reluctantly, I turned it off and sank back into my sweet dreams.
Shortly afterward, there was a knock on my bedroom door.
Knock, knock, knock.
"..."
"Ryuumin..." my mother's voice rang out from outside.
"I'm not going to school today, Mom!" I replied loudly.
"KANGGG RYUUUMINNNNN!"
My mother's shrill scream made me sit up straight. With a grimace, I quickly got ready.
"Yes, yes, Mom!"
A few minutes later, I was ready. I left the room, grabbing a piece of bread from the table.
"I'll take this, Mom!" I shouted with a wide smile, my slightly protruding front teeth showing.
My mother just shook her head worriedly.
"Hey, be careful. If you want to eat, sit down, don't run."
I pretended not to hear and jogged out of the house.
On my way to school, I heard the sound of a TV coming from an electronics store on the side of the road.
On the screen, an ability user was showing off his powers.
"Look, Luciounus Touch!" he said confidently.
"With this skill, anyone I touch will be weakened for a few seconds! That's how I cleared this Gate!"
I almost laughed.
Really arrogant just because I can make someone weak for a few seconds? Huh... this world is really strange.
Upon arriving at school, I was greeted by my two friends.
Someone tapped me on the shoulder.
"Hey."
I turned around. It was Kang Hyuri and Na Jong Jun.
"You said you didn't want to go to school today?" Hyuri asked.
"My mom threatened me, hehe..." I replied sheepishly.
"Hahaha!" Jong Jun laughed out loud. "That's why you're like me! Participate in Gate raids, earn money, and then you don't have to ask your parents anymore!"
I snorted, while Hyuri tried to calm me down.
"Jong Jun, not everyone can awaken their Abilities as easily as you, you know."
Fourty Nine years have passed since the day of the first Invasion.
The world I live in now is no longer a normal one.
Not everyone who witnessed the initial disaster gained an Abilities. And for those who did… not all of them were useful.
A classification system was created.
1. Ability User System.
The power of Ability users is classified from S-Rank—the strongest—to the nearly useless F-Rank.
In Korea alone, there are several S-Rank users. My idol, Choi Jumin, is one of them.
His ability: Founding Sparrow.
He can summon birds from tens of thousands of miles away to fight alongside him. The birds can even form weapons at will—swords, spears, or shields.
To us, he's like a living legend.
2.Guilds
And of course, the strongest Ability Users founded their own guilds. In Korea, there are five major guilds:
1. The Neverbond Guild
2. The Lava Guild
3. The Smashed Guild
4. The Lotus Guild
5. The Restrictions Guild
They stand at the pinnacle of power. Almost no one can match them.
I looked up at the sky as I walked.
If only I could have an Ability too… a unique Ability that belonged only to me.
But until now, I've never shown any signs of awakening. I'm just an ordinary human.
As soon as Hyuri, Jong Jun, and I arrived at the school gates, something unexpected happened.
A blue window floated in front of me.
