The early morning light spilled gently across the city, brushing the walls in pale gold.
"Luciel! Someone's dead!"
Mino's frantic voice shattered the calm. The earless girl burst into the room, eyes wide and face pale.
Luciel stirred, his black hair tousled across the pillow. He blinked sleepily at her before murmuring, "Dead, huh? Let me guess—hanging on the wall?"
Mino froze. "H-how did you know?"
He stifled a yawn and stretched. "Because I told Arachni to handle it last night."
"What…?"
Luciel sat up, rubbing his temples. "A few thieves tried sneaking in again. The Red Ghost Spider caught them. I told it to deal with them however it wanted." His tone was as calm as if he were talking about the weather.
Mino's lips parted. She glanced around the room instinctively, half-expecting to see a body there. "So it was Big Spider… I thought maybe—"
"Don't worry," Luciel interrupted gently. "It wasn't one of ours. They were outsiders. Arachni did what it was supposed to."
