Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: A Storm of Doubts

"Huh?! Is there a meteor falling?! Where is it going to land?"

I wondered as I changed my mind about continuing to walk and quickly ran to a nearby store where there might be a television to get some immediate information.

Some people on the sidewalks and inside their cars noticed a meteor flying across the sky, and this gradually caused a certain amount of panic, with the city's population rushing to get home.

As for me, I managed to reach a convenience store in time, my clothes soaked from the rain and my eyes completely focused on the television near the cookie shelf.

"BREAKING NEWS: A meteor has been spotted flying at high speed over the skies of California! For all people on the streets, seek nearby shelter or protect yourselves in your homes until the impact can be investigated!"

If it was spotted here a few minutes ago, it wouldn't crash so far from the city... and the direction it went in now is close to the condominium where Kisai lives!

- Trisck!

"Why do these young people force this door when closing it? Jesus have mercy on my job..." The lady who works at the store is outraged to see me slamming the door as I run out.

- Run-run-run!

My steps were so fast that I could hear my breathing louder than my heartbeat, afraid that something might happen to my best friend.

Looking around the streets of San Diego, everything had become complete chaos! People were rushing into stores to protect themselves in case of a possible meteor shower... others were breaking into cars to try to drive to their homes, since buses and taxis were completely full.

"I hope the meteor doesn't fall too close to Kisai's house, maybe I'm just overthinking this..."

If something goes very wrong in a person's life, I've always believed that one bad thing becomes a thousand bad things in small amounts... well, that's what has always happened to me.

My whole life, I never got to know my own father closely... let alone my older blood brother.

My mother, Inko Satoshi, always tried to support me as much as she could... however, my relationship with her was never the best. Since several times, we would argue about my future as a student and especially about our father's disappearance.

She hated any mention of him and never went into detail about her romantic history with him... because she believed that I would never understand her, much less heal the great pain she had experienced years ago.

However, the only thing I know about my father, which I discovered while investigating my mother's room... is that he ended up deserting the military. He abandoned his identity and our own family, with the plan to protect us from something bigger.

But what greater threat could befall us? Well... this meteor could be the possible clue to all of this. Seeing that inner glow, similar to a diamond shining on a rock, is not natural.

"Hey, bitch, drop that bag right now or you'll get a bullet in your head!" From a distance, I heard a tall, masked criminal shouting at a woman who was completely defenseless.

Amidst so much confusion and commotion, it was also to be expected that some thefts would occur in the streets, since without police control in some areas... it would be easier for these criminals to get around.

However, if they don't have control over everything... maybe I can fulfill this role just this once.

"No, leave me alone!" The blonde-haired woman with brown eyes, her expression one of utter despair, fought against the theft that was taking place, even though it was costing her her life.

And in the blink of an eye, amid the immense noise in the streets... I quickly appeared behind the criminal and immobilized his body with my strong arms around his chest.

Throwing his body to the ground, we both fought on the sidewalk to resist the chaos. With his weapon fallen, my fists acted quickly and his face was covered with bruises and hematomas.

In short, I have strong experience in Krav Maga, so if I were to immobilize the body of an armed enemy... it would not be a difficult job for me.

At this very moment, he lies unconscious on the ground, his face completely bruised and covered in bruises that my fists mercilessly inflicted.

Silently, I continue my run toward the meteor where it fell, and the victim who witnessed the entire scene... felt moved and relieved after being saved.

"Thank you..." Her last words were a thank you that I would never forget in my life.

[Location: On an avenue near the Coronado Bridge (California) December 15, 2024 - 4:13 PM • Cloudy and Rainy Weather]

"Ah... Uh..."

My sighs of exhaustion were endless after a thirty-minute run... I finally saw a crowd in front of me and the huge smoke that ended up consuming the skies of this closed avenue.

The authorities are trying to prevent the population from getting close to that meteor that crashed in the middle of the street, causing a huge hole where the smoke kept coming out.

As I tried to approach the crowd that was bothering the authorities, a mysterious voice appeared in my mind.

"Anken..." The mysterious female voice spoke in my mind, and my eyes widened in surprise and doubt.

"What is that voice?!" I exclaimed in doubt as I tried to understand where that voice was coming from.

The closer I got to the crowd, the more that voice repeated my name... and it started to drive me crazy to the point of dangerously infiltrating that confusion of people.

"Excuse me!" I shouted as my body mingled with the crowd, walking and squeezing into every free space to get closer to the meteor.

It didn't take long for me to get close, but the local police were already in front of me, and I could only see a little of the structure of that meteor that still shone in diamond blue.

However, it didn't take long for the same voice to call me again in my mind... but the difference was that it was much louder than before after I approached the crowd.

"Anken... Anken..."

Many people are pushing each other to try to get closer and see it better, but the police react and start shooting into the sky to scare everyone away.

The vast majority of people end up quickly moving away from the cordoned-off area, but I... I end up staying in the same place, noticing something in that huge hole.
