Seeing William swear by his family name, the mercenary captain breathed a sigh of relief. His eyes darted around, "Alright, a million dollars per question, Mr. Devonshire. I'm about to die; I need to earn some money for my family to live on."
William stared at this money-grubbing guy, dumbfounded. "God, am I too benevolent?"
The mercenary captain, who had been watching William intently, noticed the change in William's expression and quickly said, "Alright, if you don't want to give it, then don't. William, you don't know how expensive it is to raise children. If it weren't for my three lovely kids, I would have retired long ago. I wouldn't have taken on this damned mission to find a devil like you for two million dollars. It's such a loss. I really want to ask my employer for more money."
William chuckled at the guy, which reminded him of Barney and Yin Yang talking about how expensive it was to raise kids. "Buddy, it's a shame you're not an actor. You're acting even at death's door. Did you forget I can hear your heartbeat? When you mentioned three kids, your heartbeat didn't change, and your expression didn't look like you had children. Acting is acting, after all; there's no tenderness in your eyes."
Hearing William's words, the mercenary captain suddenly cursed, "Damn it, you don't have children, do you? How old are you?"
Seeing William ignore him, the mercenary captain had no choice but to say, "Alright, I really don't have children, only two elderly parents. If I die, no one will support them, so it's a million per question, and you only pay when you're satisfied."
"Alright, this time I somewhat believe you. Your heartbeat did quicken quite a bit this time. A million each, and I'll have someone deliver cash to your parents. Don't think I'll transfer money to you; I'm not that foolish to leave a transaction record. So, one last warning: don't try any more tricks."
"God, are you really not even 20 years old? How can someone so young have so many schemes?"
William wasn't really going to give this guy money. Who couldn't act? They could act for each other. "Alright, for the sake of you being about to die, a million per question, as long as it satisfies me."
"Thank you, Mr. Devonshire. I knew you were a good man. Ask away, you can ask as many questions as you like, and I'll tell you everything I know."
William burst out laughing at this amusing guy. "First question, who hired you?"
Seeing that William was willing to pay, this guy didn't even think before selling out his employer, "The Guild of Light."
William felt the mercenary captain's heartbeat; this time, it was very steady. "Second question, how did you track us here?"
This time, the mercenary captain thought for a moment before gritting his teeth and saying, "Fahie."
"What? That French brute? How did he know my whereabouts? Why did he betray me?" William asked in surprise.
"We didn't follow you to Ireland; we followed Sophie and Landon to Ireland. We originally intended to follow you, but we couldn't keep up. In the end, Fahie tracked Sophie and Landon's movements, so we followed them."
"Damn those two!" William cursed after hearing this. "Last question, tell me your employer's name."
"Arin Gallo, Cardinal of the Church of Light."
"Very good. I'll have someone deliver four million dollars to your parents. It's time for you to go. If you take care of it yourself, I'll give your parents an extra 100,000 dollars." With that, William picked up a 92 from the ground, ejected the magazine, took out a bullet, loaded it, and threw it to the mercenary captain.
The mercenary captain asked with a regretful look, "You really won't go after my parents?"
William nodded solemnly, "Of course, I'm not a serial killer, and you and I have no enmity. If it weren't for secrecy, I might not have killed you, but it's a shame, buddy."
"Alright, my parents are in Houston, Green Street. My name is Colin Farrell Gleason. My father's name is Brendan Gleason; he's a big fat guy, easy to recognize, with blond hair. He looks serious but is actually very funny. Perhaps you'll know when you meet him; he's a man of great principles. My mother is a…"
"Alright, buddy, I don't want to know about your parents; it would make me feel a tiny bit guilty. But unfortunately, you're not a beautiful woman, so it's just a tiny bit. It's time for you to go." How did this guy become a captain? With his mouth? William was getting annoyed by this guy. "Or how about I help you? That way, you can save 100,000 dollars."
"No, no, I'll do it myself. God, I'm only 27 years old, and I'm going to meet you without even getting married. Oh, right, I don't think I can get into heaven. Suicides all go to meet Satan. I really should have listened to my mom and stayed home after retiring. Goodbye, Mom."
With that, he put the 92 into his mouth and looked up at the sky with longing. Seeing him gaze at the sky so passionately, William almost felt a pang of reluctance for this amusing guy.
But this longing lasted for five minutes. William, seeing this, cursed loudly, "Damn it, can you hurry up? Satan is waiting for you, buddy."
"Alright, Satan, I'm coming. I hope I can find a succubus for a wife. Please keep your promise, Mr. Devonshire. And I'll be waiting for you in hell. See you soon."
Colin looked at the sky with longing eyes again, but this time, he didn't wait for William to get angry. He gritted his teeth and pulled the trigger. *Click.* Colin fell backward abruptly, his hands splayed, his eyes unfocused as he stared at the sky.
After waiting for a minute, Colin's eyes moved. "Hmm, how can I still see the blue sky? Did my soul leave my body? Yes, it must be. God, the sky is so blue. It's my first time seeing such a blue sky. I wish it could stay like this forever, but unfortunately, I don't have much time left. Satan should be coming to claim my soul soon. What a pity, I still have so much money left to spend."
Suddenly, Brendan felt someone kick him. "If you're not dead, get up, you idiot! The gun didn't even fire. Are you addicted to acting? I should really kill you, you fool."
Colin turned his head to look at William in confusion, seeing William smiling at him. Colin then realized, "Yeah, there really wasn't a gunshot. So that means I'm not dead."
Colin immediately sat up, patting himself all over, and finally exclaimed in surprise, "I'm really not dead! God, why am I not dead?"
William rolled his eyes. Of course, he had quietly put the bullet into his storage space. "Then do you want me to help you meet Satan, you idiot? Get up! Since you're not dead, you should get to work. You don't really think I'd give you four million dollars for a few questions, do you? If you want the money, help me kill your employer or take this gentleman to find your employer."
With that, William turned to look at Carlos. Carlos understood William's idea. Using this amusing guy as a guide would indeed save a lot of trouble, and this guy was greedy for money and quite capable. He had truly attempted suicide for his parents' safety, so he should be easy to control. If not, they could just silence him after killing the mastermind of the Guild of Light.
Carlos nodded at William.
Seeing Carlos agree without hesitation made William very happy. Henry might have truly saved Carlos's child, otherwise Carlos wouldn't still be so loyal to William ten years later.
Colin, hearing that he didn't have to die and could get 4.1 million dollars just for leading the way, excitedly nodded repeatedly. "No problem, Mr. Devonshire. As long as there's money, besides my parents, I'll kill anyone you want me to. I promise to cooperate well with this gentleman. Since you didn't kill me, I won't charge you for this job. But Mr. Devonshire, could you pay a deposit first?"
This was truly dying for money.
