Chapter 2 - Opportunity

The light at the end of the tunnel grew brighter and brighter with each step Alejandro took until he reached the other side.

He walked onto the pitch of Estadio Benito Villamarín greeting him with a warm smile. Many of the players were already there, performing warm up drills.

Dammit I'm late again.

Alejandro scrambled yo find the coach but couldn't see him anywhere.

"Primer contacto," a voice yelled out from afar.

Alejandro turned to see a ball hurdling at him with incredible speed. Before he could prepare to place it on his chest the ball quickly dipped towards his feet.

Shit

Alejandro quickly lifted his right leg and trapped the ball between his shin and the laces of his cleats before stumbling back.

"Seems like you didn't loose your touch after all student," the voice called out again.

Alejandro looked up to see his captain waving at him.

"Oh come one Anansi, I just got here," he said with a smile.

Alejandro dropped his bag and ran up to rest of the team members who hoisted him up into the air.

"Congratulations for making it into the Laliga team of the season!" they all cheered.

"Gracias a todos, "he responded as they tossed him into the air and caught him.

" Alejandro he's the goat he's a legend he's the man, "they all chanted as they continued to toss and catch him.

" Enough. Prrrrr. "

The deafening sound of the whistle killed the chant midway as all the players turned to the sound of the whistle. It was coach Luis.

The players immediately placed Alejandro down as the coach finally reached them.

"Alejandro, follow me. The rest continue with the drills," Luis said in a stern voice.

The players all scrambled to continue their individual drills leaving Alejandro alone wide eyed.

********

Alejandro and Luis get to his office and sit down across from each other. Luis stared at the nervous Alejandro for a moment.

"So...why did you call for me coach," Alejandro asked in a shrill voice.

Coach Luis didn't respond but instead placed a note on the table which Alejandro took.

"The higher ups wanted me to pass this along and let you choose since they want you to flourish in an environment of your choosing," Luis said leaning back into his chair.

Alejandro stared at the paper and blinked for a couple of times. He looked down at the paper than at the coach before looking down at the paper again.

"What are you surprised for, you had one of the best youngster seasons ever. Almost better than Pablo Romero and Matsumoto Takumi," Luis added.

Alejandro stared at the paper with jaw wide open. Luis chuckled.

"I'm not expecting you to make a decision today so just go home and think about and give me an answer tomorrow. Some of those teams are getting impatient," Luis said.

Alejandro nooded frantically, "No problem coach, I'll be back with the answer tomorrow," he said as he got out and sprinted out the office.
