Veyra's pov
The office smelled of polished wood and expensive coffee. I adjusted my blazer and glanced at my son, Orin, sitting quietly in the corner, pretending to play with his toys. He had no idea that the man who would soon enter our lives was his father.
The sound of the glass doors sliding open made my heart skip a beat. I looked up—and froze.
Kaelen Voss. My ex. My past. And now… my CEO.
He walked in, tall, commanding, the kind of presence that made the entire office quiet down. He didn't notice Orin, not yet, but his eyes landed on me. And for a split second, there was recognition—just a flicker—but it vanished immediately. Professionalism, perhaps, or maybe denial.
"Good morning, Ms. Veyra," he said, his voice calm, polished. "Ready for the quarterly review?"
I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat. "Yes, Mr. Voss."
As he passed, Orin waved innocently, tugging at my skirt. Kaelen paused for a moment, his eyes flicking toward the child, then quickly back to me. There was something in his gaze—curiosity? Confusion?
I forced a smile. "Orin is just… visiting today."
He nodded, but I saw it: the way his jaw tightened, the faint crease between his brows. Something had sparked.
My heart pounded. He didn't know… and he must never find out. Not yet.
And just like that, the man I once loved walked into my life again, completely unaware that he had a child who had been waiting for him all along.
Will Kaelen interact with Orin without realizing he's his son?
Stay tuned to find out about it in next chapter
Till then
