Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

He covered his mouth with both hands as he was going through the project I edited.

"Oh my goodness! This is good! Mr Smith wouldn't even blink an eyelid anymore."

"This contract is ours. I think you should arrange a meeting now with him to check this out. He will love it. What do you think?" Excitement filled his voice as he fiddled with his telephone at the same time.

"Hey! Arrange a meeting with the CEO of the A&F enterprise ASAP! The project is ready," he said behind the phone, and I stared at him tongue-tied.

Meanwhile, my entire attention was on the DNA test on his desk, and I knew this was what she threw at him.

I can't even believe this for a second. Is…is it that this child is supposedly for her ex-husband?

But in reality, he's not the biological father but rather Mr Waltz.

I took a sharp breath, and I couldn't help but try to second-guess myself. How could they be this evil?

"Miss Kaplan, I'm super proud of you and trust me if this contract comes to us, you will be rewarded," he added with joy shining in his eyes

I couldn't tear my gaze from his profile and I kept wondering which gentleman they were this wicked to.

"Really? That's awesome. Thank you," l managed to say.

"Okay, great. The meeting is in thirty minutes; go with your assistant and come back with good news," he said as he stood up, pulling his hand towards me for a handshake.

I hesitated before I held back and the electricity of that touch sent signals throughout my entire body.

Meanwhile, he seemed to deny the pulsing knot that was tied down in his stomach, but it was obvious.

I tried to pull my hand, but he held it back, and I felt my blood coursing through my veins like an awakened river.

"Ooh, my bad. Best of luck and represent The Waltz Group well as always," it was as though he was lost in thoughts and he let go of my hand that minute.

An undeniable magnetism was building between us even though I tried to ignore it, but it seemed impossible. "Sure, Mr Waltz. We will make you proud," I managed to say and I strolled out.

The moment I got to my office, it was as though Javon had heard the conversation I had with the CEO, and he was all ready.

"Wh…at!" I stammered as my words got stuck in my throat.

"Yeah, you shouldn't be surprised. I told you Mr Waltz would approve it, and he did, right?" he uttered calmly.

I gave a brief smile and a tense nod of consent as I strolled in for my handbag.

"Wow! Great news is definitely hanging in the air," he exclaimed.

"Get the driver informed. We're leaving ASAP," I spoke as I parked my necessities in my handbag.

A moment later, I got ready and all set but anxiety spurted through me as I entered the elevator straight to the reception.

I hopped inside the passenger's seat when I got outside and the engine was roared to life. My brain was calculating the time and I couldn't wait to get there.

"You're meeting him at the same restaurant where I met him last week?" Javon questioned breaking through the silence in the car.

"Yeah, Love Restaurant, huh?" I stated.

He nodded back at me without speaking as his concentration was on his phone.

It wasn't long before the driver held his brake in front of a massive restaurant, and I didn't need to ask questions to confirm that it was.

Before I could process anything in my mind, the door of the car opened for me. As I stepped foot onto the ground, the morning sun streamed down on me, and it was as though that was supposed to be my welcome.

"There's no need for me to go be there with you. You're more than capable of this. I mean I tried several times but failed, and I know you will conquer it once," Javon stated, and I was frozen.

However, I couldn't help but agree with him. This is not my first time doing this and coming out victorious. It wouldn't be different.

"He is at the VIP section with his assistant and I'm very sure he will be waiting for you by now," he added.

I sighed as I took a deep breath and tried to maintain a calm composure. "Thank you," I murmured, my voice barely audible.

The moment I walked in, a young lady approached me. "You're welcome to Love Restaurant. Do you have a reservation here?" She spoke as she fiddled with her iPad.

"Umm…actually I have a meeting with the CEO of A&D enterprise at the VIP section and…"

"Ooh that," she interrupted me. "Enter the elevator and you'll be dropped in front of the VIP section. He's waiting for you now," she added and obviously Javon was right.

My eyes moved back to my wristwatch, and I wasn't late. I hope he won't use that against me though.

I removed the remaining hair on my face and adjusted my face as I entered the elevator. Within the twinkle of an eye, I was actually just an inch closer to the door.

My mind was a mixture of thoughts and I couldn't place my finger on anything. A soft grasp escaped from my lips as the door swung open and anxiety cooled my thoughts.

And just like Javon rightfully mentioned, there were two people seated with their laptops in front of them.

"This is definitely Mr Smith and his assistant," a whisper in my head told me and I took a nervous pause.

Even though I've not met him in person, my heart jolted when one of them stood on his feet as I crawled towards them, and the phone he had in his hand fell on the floor.

"Mr Smith, is everything alright?" The other gentleman questioned, and he was obviously his assistant.

Before I could process anything and even predict the reasons for this deathly stare, he pushed the chair behind him, and still, his eyes couldn't leave mine.

My heart started beating fast and uneasiness stirred through the pit of my stomach. Panic gripped my chest and I could barely breathe.

I tried to move swiftly just to introduce myself to him to calm this thick air. But as I dropped my bag, stretched a hand at him and parted my lips to speak he ignored that.

Then his hands slipped up my arms and he pulled me closer to himself. Goosebumps filled my entire body, and I stepped one step backwards, but his grip tightened up on me.

I grasped for air, but an infectious smile curled on his lips, making me more confused. "Thank goodness you're back, Lily! Even though I was waiting for a client, I could wait. Let's go back to the registry and complete our marriage process," he stated, and a smirk formed on his face.

"I got the exact ring you asked for. Diamond and its size is 16. Your size, huh?" he added as he kept his hand around my neck.

My world stopped making sense and I stood frozen. "Wh…at!"
