Chapter 179 - 178: Test Run: A Newbie’s Shock!

Asurada was the pinnacle of high-intelligence Formula machines—

a super-car designed personally by Hayato Kazami's father, and for nearly fifteen years, no system managed to surpass it.

When his father first designed the original Asurada, he had once said:

"If you fail to win the championship, the fault lies with me for not creating a perfect system."

After leaving behind that statement, he disappeared for several years.

And when he returned—Asurada was born.

Not only did it possess extreme learning capability, it even had a touch of emotion.

For example… tsundere tendencies.

Asurada underwent four major revisions.

Later, after suffering a catastrophic accident that nearly tore the entire car apart, the team replaced the chassis entirely.

Thus, Super Asurada was born.

Its streamlined silhouette, dual boosters, and three transformable modes designed for different track conditions became its signature.

The colors remained the classic blue and white.

This one was the first-generation Super Asurada 01.

After upgrades came Super Asurada 11, which wasn't much larger in size but introduced voice control—

extremely convenient for drivers.

Hayato used Super Asurada 11 to win his second full world championship, completing his two-year consecutive victory run.

And now—

He was driving Super Asurada 0, his current machine.

This time, his target was a triple crown—

and he had every confidence he could achieve it.

Super Asurada 0's booster system had evolved:

originally a single-stage accelerator, it now had a dual-stage boost that burned an enormous amount of fuel.

Stage 2 lasted only five seconds, but the explosive acceleration was overwhelming.

Every driver had their trump cards.

But compared to Leon's two-minute acceleration, all of theirs were simply far too short.

Hayato Kazami—still a teenager, tall but with a youthful, soft face—

was currently test-driving on the circuit.

Because the car hadn't been fully tuned yet, turning felt somewhat heavy.

He almost lost control and shot off the track.

All the related data was immediately sent back to the Sugo Team engineers.

Just as he exited the corner and prepared to accelerate—

a thunderous roar erupted from behind him.

It sounded like a missile tearing across the sky.

"What…?" Hayato was startled.

Just from the sound alone, he felt an overwhelming pressure—

as if a natural-born king was storming toward him from behind.

Unlike any Formula engine he knew, this sound felt destructive… unfamiliar… yet terrifying.

Could it be Leon's car?

Hayato glanced at the mirror—

and saw a blue-black war machine tearing toward him on the outer line.

The aura it radiated was razor sharp.

In an instant it swept past him.

For one or two seconds the two cars were side-by-side—

then The Tyrant triggered a new burst of acceleration and overtook him cleanly, cutting into the next corner's ideal entry line.

"So… so fast!"

Hayato's eyes widened.

He was shaken to his core.

This was supposed to be a driver with zero experience?

Yet his technique was flawless.

His cornering line was precise.

None of it resembled a beginner.

Anyone experienced in Formula knew:

Cornering is everything.

The larger the turning radius, the less lateral force the tires needed.

Exceed that limit—too fast—and the car slides, losing grip and flying off the track.

To maximize corner speed, drivers used the classic path:

Outside → Inside → Outside

It wasn't like textbooks claimed—

shorter distance ≠ faster.

Hugging the inner line was slow.

Just like circular motion in physics—

larger radius → higher speed.

F1 drivers needed to maintain the fastest possible corner speed while still achieving a strong exit.

That was why the "outside-inside-outside" line was king.

For consecutive corners, maintaining overall speed mattered far more than shaving off a few meters.

Yes, the path was longer.

But the time difference was negligible.

The exit speed advantage, however, was massive.

This required:

• rich driver experience

• precise team data judgment

• absolute technical fluency

A newbie without experience would always suffer.

But Leon's line…

was perfect.

Where was the "newbie" here?

His driving looked like someone with years of high-level Formula experience.

Had he fooled everyone?

Hayato was so shocked that he momentarily forgot to accelerate.

"Hayato, why did you slow down?" asked Shinsuke Maki, the team's systems engineer.

He handled Asurada's data collection and programming.

Seeing Hayato stall after exiting the corner, he spoke through the comms:

"Did Asurada malfunction?"

"Ah—no."

Hayato snapped back to attention.

"I was… startled. A car just passed me—extremely fast."

The Sugo team members froze.

Most teams knew each other well.

No one should be surprising anyone at this point.

Except for one person.

"Was it Leon?"

Asuka Sugo's eyes lit up instantly.

"Yeah… it was him."

Hayato nodded.

"His speed—and his technique—far exceeded my expectations."

When Hayato first entered the Hyper Formula world, he knew nothing.

In his early days, he took the inner line in corners, as taught in textbooks.

Asurada scolded him for being too slow.

He was crushed by Naoki Shinjou with ease.

But Leon had immediately taken the optimal racing line the moment he arrived on the track.

Was this really his first time driving a Formula machine?

"I knew he could do it!"

Asuka smiled brightly.

Just talking to him last night—drinking a bit, chatting casually—

his temperament and confidence had won her over.

And his 1-billion-dollar backing made her trust in his skill even more.

Now with Hayato's confirmation, his technique clearly wasn't a problem.

Could he actually win the championship?

Naoki Shinjou was driving the Spartan.

The all-black machine had its side wings reshaped into metallic blades, making it look like a bat charging forward with spread wings.

Twin thrusters sat on its rear wing, increasing downforce to clamp the car onto the asphalt, preventing lift.

After passing Hayato, Leon rapidly closed in behind Shinjou.

The violent, thunderous engine note from The Tyrant surged forward—

and Naoki's eyes twitched sharply.

He absolutely needed to teach Leon a lesson.
