The next day, as dawn broke, Kyle woke up with an overwhelming sense of excitement. He, an average person from his past life, had truly stepped into a world of incredible adventures.
"Damn it! I've actually become a Devil Fruit user!" he shouted, pinching his thigh. The pain made him wince, but it also made him laugh like a kid, confirming it was all real.
His excitement was quickly replaced by a more urgent goal: to get back to the sea. He wanted to see the legendary figures he'd only known from a comic book and explore the islands and oceans for himself. Just thinking about characters like Luffy and Zoro made his blood boil.
But reality hit him hard. He looked around and saw only his crude cave, the endless jungle, and a beach. He couldn't even find a good piece of wood to build a ship, let alone one that was seaworthy.
"I can't possibly build a ship by myself, can I? What if it sinks as soon as I get out there? That would be the end of me," Kyle said to himself, deflating and slumping back onto his bed of dry leaves.
It seemed his only option was to wait for a ship to pass by the deserted island. But he couldn't waste this time.
"A Devil Fruit…" Kyle looked at his hands, his eyes burning with curiosity. He had no idea what kind of power the white fruit, which tasted like a bioweapon, had given him. He needed to figure out how to use it.
In the following days, Kyle focused on nothing but researching his new ability. He tried to mimic the moves of some Devil Fruit users from his memories, but nothing worked.
"Am I doing something wrong?" he wondered, scratching his head in frustration. For days, he tried everything he could think of, even yelling at the sea, which only earned him strange looks from a few seabirds. He was frustrated. Why did other people who crossed into this world get a complete beginner's package with all three types of Haki, swordsmanship, and instructions for their fruit, while he got nothing?
One day, while doing his usual strength training, his mind was distracted by his lack of progress. He picked up a huge rock to throw, but he stumbled, and the rock slipped from his grasp. Just as it was about to hit the ground, a strong feeling of irritation surged within him, and he instinctively pushed his hand toward the rock.
"Buzz!"
An invisible ripple spread from his palm. The huge rock didn't hit the ground with a thud as he expected. Instead, it trembled violently and then, with a soft poof, turned into a pile of pebbles.
Kyle stared at the scene, then at his hand, his heart pounding. "What... what was that?"
He focused on the feeling he had just had and tried to repeat it. He held his hand out toward a large tree, as thick as his waist, and concentrated.
"Buzz!"
Another invisible ripple shot out. The tree shook, and countless fine cracks appeared on its trunk. Then, with a loud crack, it snapped in half, and the top crashed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"That's amazing!" Kyle jumped in excitement. "This is my ability!"
It wasn't a simple physical vibration. It was something more fundamental, a kind of "wave" or "oscillation." He took a moment to calm down and analyze it. In his past life, he was a regular person, but he had a basic understanding of physics. Thoughts about transverse waves, longitudinal waves, mechanical waves, and electromagnetic waves filled his mind.
"If it were just a shockwave or an oscillation wave, it would destroy things and knock them away, not disintegrate them from the inside," he reasoned. He focused on the feeling again. It was a kind of… frequency? Or resonance?
In the world of One Piece, where most people were illiterate, his knowledge of physics was a powerful advantage. The seemingly magical powers of Devil Fruits suddenly had a scientific explanation in his eyes. He had read online forums where people gave serious, nonsense explanations about "two-dimensional physics." At the time, he just found it funny, but now, that strange knowledge might be the key to his survival.
He had often heard people say that Devil Fruits were wasted on brutes who didn't understand physics and only fought with instinct. For example, a certain admiral with the power of light could only use straight kicks and laser beams, which seemed to waste the full potential of photons. A physicist, on the other hand, might be able to use gravitational lensing, energy conversion, or even time dilation.
While Kyle agreed that fighting and scientific research were different, he knew that a deeper understanding of the science behind Devil Fruit abilities would definitely help him develop his powers.
"I wonder if it's a Logia or a Paramecia?" he thought, his heart pounding. If it was a Logia, he could turn his body into a vibration wave, become immune to physical attacks, and manipulate all kinds of waves. That would make it a top-tier Logia ability.
"Time to try to turn into my element!" Kyle took a deep breath, focused his mind, and imagined his body breaking down into countless vibration waves. Nothing happened at first, but he didn't give up.
Finally, in a moment of intense concentration, he felt his body lighten, as if it had lost its physical form. He looked down, and his arm had become somewhat transparent, with faint, shimmering ripple-like patterns at the edges. He picked up a small stone and threw it at his arm.
Swoosh! The stone passed right through without any resistance.
"It's a Logia! It really is a Logia!" Kyle was so excited he could have cried.
In the following days, Kyle completely dedicated himself to developing his new power. The first thing he practiced was "elementalization." At first, he could only turn a part of his body into a wave, and it was unstable, like a glitchy video. But with constant practice, he slowly learned to turn his entire body into an invisible vibration wave. Even though he couldn't control its shape perfectly, being immune to physical attacks was enough to ensure his safety.
Next, he worked on a "directional impact" technique. He learned to compress the vibration wave and then release it all at once, creating an "air cannon" effect. He kept adjusting the compression and release, and the power grew steadily. He went from breaking trees to shattering rocks and eventually blasting a several-meter-high wave on the sea.
He also had great success with "high-frequency oscillation." He discovered he could give an object a specific vibration frequency, causing its internal structure to resonate and break apart. He started by turning small pebbles into dust and eventually could make a rock taller than a person disintegrate in seconds.
"This is the perfect move against metal warships or other ability users' weapons!" Kyle said, imagining a scene where he could wave his hand and make an enemy's sword, armor, and helmet all shatter. A grin slowly spread across his face.
Time flew by as Kyle trained hard and developed his powers. He was like a sponge, soaking up knowledge from his past life and practical experience from this one. He named his fruit the Logia Wave-Wave Fruit.
Today, Kyle was training on a cliff at the highest point of the island. He was shirtless, his bronze skin glistening in the sun, and his muscles looked powerful. He practiced his elemental evasion, switching between his physical form and his wave form to dodge imaginary attacks from all directions.
Then he took a deep breath and pushed his palms forward.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Three powerful shockwaves shot out, hitting three wooden stakes he had set up in the ocean dozens of meters away, blasting them to pieces.
"The power isn't focused enough. It's still nowhere near a 'Star Shattering Cannon'," he muttered, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
As he was about to start practicing "high-frequency oscillation" on a strange metal ore he had found, he caught a glimpse of a small black dot on the distant horizon. He focused, using his vibration perception to its limit. His pupils narrowed when he saw it. It was a ship, and the flag was a skull with two crossed swords underneath—a pirate ship!
Kyle's heart pounded, and an uncontrollable excitement surged through him.
"Hehehe," he laughed to himself. "The three-year waiting period is over. It's time for the Dragon King to set sail!"
