Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 Scout for a park

Chapter 21 Scout for a park

Leslie was leading Rohan and Britta, taking some of the smaller streets. These side streets were still large enough for cars to go through but were less busy. So they hoped to encounter none or at least very little amount of satyr's.

All of inner city was kept in pristine condition by automatic cleaning facilities. Every skyscraper would have a different style and exorbitant details. Some had white marble tiles, golden chandeliers, diamond lighting or even the roof would be made from rare minerals. All to please even richer people. Rohan wouldn't mind taking a couple of these expensive items with him, but he couldn't do that now.

They passed next to the geisha district which was famous for its special services for men and women done by models. Only the richest of the rich would be able to afford it, but now it was all desolate.

All the skyscrapers still looked to be in perfect condition, they were all fitted with unbreakable glass and doors that could hold any car outside. Even the satyr's hadn't been able to go inside.

They passed a couple of different districts, geisha, gambling area, sports, cinematography, theatherical, opera, relaxation, recreation or lifestyle. This part of the inner city was devoted purely to entertaining the guests and would be an important part for the visitors.

Leaving the entertainment district they reached the security block, Leslie planned for them to put up a small safespot in the security buildings. These were not so well protected, cause who would want to barge into a fully armed building.

Rohan's could break the door open by focusing his skill on the door hinges. Making it easier for Britta to force the door open without much noise.

"Normally there should be alarms going on" Leslie said as he entered inside the building.

It had a very outdated design, mostly yellow walls, wooden doors, desks etc. It was all aimed at efficiency and saving money instead of extravagance.

They quickly checked the building but couldn't enter the armory or go higher than the 3rd floor. It would be sufficient for now. They had also tried to fix the telephone line or the walkie talkies, but all of it was jammed and no signal would get through.

"Rohan, go check 2 streets further, there should be a park at that corner. See what if it had any changes" Britta told Rohan after discussing a bit with Leslie.

They would need to cross a couple of larger parks before they would get to the last stretch before Duran's cross.

"I'll be back in 30 minutes" Rohan said as he left out the door, keeping watch of his surroundings. He was the fastest in the group so that also made him the best for scouting.

It took him a couple minutes to get to the corner of the park without being seen. He didn't expect the park to be in total chaos. The park was a couple hundred meters long, and completely covered in rubble from a destroyed skyscraper.

"What the…"

Rohan was shocked as he saw the whole park covered in concrete, glass and steel. It had fallen over like a tree, perfectly on the length of the park.

He saw a couple dozen satyrs on the far end of the park break down parts of the remains and move it to the spot where the skyscraper used to stand. He couldn't see what they were doing with it.

Moving forward next to the park he tried to get a good look, but there were just too many satyrs. The street he just came from was completely empty, and then the next corner there were at least 10 of them.

"I can't risk this. I need to go back."

He turned around to leave moving back around the corner, but just as he was about to turn. Right in front of him on the next corner was a satyr. Standing upright, dark red eyes. Looking straight at him from a distance.

It stood perfectly still, just watching Rohan.

"Shit"

Rohan froze; he didn't know if he should move, stay very still or try to shoot the satyr down. But he felt that none of his options were good.

If he shot the satyr, all the satyrs within a couple kilometers would hear it. If he stayed still, there would be a chance that either a different satyr would see him, or the staring satyr would make a move. Lastly, and his best option was to just make a break for it, hoping the staring satyr wouldn't follow him.

The satyr that was staring at Rohan looked very menacing. It had dark red eyes, large black horns that started to curl at the end. Its facial features were less like a goat and more of a mix between human and goat. And the most prominent feature was the satyrs clothes. It was wearing a combination of dark black leather with dark red markings and stripes on its chest.

Rohan couldn't see if the satyr was armed or not.

'I need to slowly move forward, and probably not break eye contact' Rohan was starting to sweat as he felt pressure from the satyr.

Rohan started to move forward, back the way he came. The first few steps he didn't need to break eye contact, and neither did the satyr. Then he came to the corner. Rohan quickly glanced around it and focused back on the satyr. It was empty and the satyr hadn't moved, it was still like a statue.

Keeping a very slow pace Rohan moved forward as if he was walking on thin ice. He walked almost sideways, just to keep check on the satyr. Ten meters, 20 meters, 30 meters, he kept walking forward until he reached the next corner.

Rohan turned around the corner and sprinted as fast as his legs could carry him to the next corner and went left.

'I need to get back to Emerald's view, but shouldn't move directly to the rest. I'll make a detour' taking another right, Rohan felt that he had put some distance between them. He felt less uncomfortable but there was still a gnawing feeling. He started to walk again as he kept watching behind him, scared of the satyr appearing suddenly.
