The wind that crawled through the high windows of Nyssa's chamber carried the scent of wet earth and fear. The candles burned low, their light trembling as if afraid to be seen by the moon.
Nyssa's body jerked violently on the bed. Sweat rolled down her temple, her chest heaving with shallow breaths. Her eyes opened suddenly, wide, glassy, terrified.
She sat up, clutching her chest, her voice cracking through the still air.
"No… no, not again—"
The dream still burned behind her eyes. Gonzalo engulfed in fire, his eyes hollow, his body turning to ashes. And behind him stood Liora. Silent, barefoot. Her hair flowed, and around her, the air was with an unholy light.
The same dream had come three nights in a row. But tonight, it felt different. Tonight, the flames had spoken.
"Rise, Nyssa. The balance is shifting."
She pressed her trembling hands to her temples. "Moon above, what are you trying to show me?"
