"Why does it feel like my bones are burning?" Gonzalo's voice was hoarse, trembling as he staggered across the dimly lit chamber. He gripped the edge of his table, sweat pouring down his face. "Why can't I breathe?"
His skin was clammy. His heart thundered in his chest like a war drum. The link between him and Liora, that fragile, forbidden thread pulsed with unbearable pain.
Something was happening to her.
He clutched his head and groaned, falling to one knee. His wolf was pacing restlessly within him, whining and clawing at the walls of his mind.
She's slipping away.
"Liora…" he gasped, chest heaving. "What's happening to you?"
The room spun. He dragged in a sharp breath, trying to suppress the connection, but it only made it worse. He saw flashes, a faint vision of dirt, of bodies, of red stained grass. The bond twisted painfully, like a blade through his ribs.
"Alpha Gonzalo!"
