Chapter 4 - The Trials of Yoruda

The village of Yoruda was known for its prestigious mercenary company, the Silver Claws. It was also the home of the Hermit of Light, whose long absences added to his mystique. Two masters ensured balance: the Fire colossus, Master Ragan, and the solid Earth warrior, Master Dorun.

On the day of the contest, the central square was buzzing. Makoho tried to blend in, but a voice froze him. "Hey, look who's here… the useless breath!" Ryojin, the son of the Hermit's second-in-command, approached with his two sidekicks. "Think you'll impress us with your breeze today?" one sneered. "Maybe he'll at least blow his written exam away!" the other added. Makoho clenched his fists. Ryojin continued, "Maybe your mom left you because she was ashamed of a son like you." Makoho's heart exploded with pain. A sudden storm descended upon the square. When the calm returned, the trial stone was cracked. The crowd was silent. Looks of disbelief landed on Makoho.

The contest continued. First trial: Power & Control. Akena made her flames roar. Tensei raised an earth column. Ryojin shattered a stone with a violent fire blast. When it was Makoho's turn, the crowd held its breath. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply. A breeze concentrated into a precise gust: the stone vibrated, and a fragile object next to it rose without a scratch. It wasn't spectacular, but it was perfect control.

Second trial: the written exam. Makoho remembered his aunt's lessons. His brush moved with confidence. The masters were impressed by his knowledge of strategy.

Third trial: the tournament. The draw created tension: Makoho would face Ryojin in the very first match. The crowd buzzed with excitement. But in Makoho's eyes, a new spark shone. He had no intention of backing down.
