In order to get Gine away, Bardock stole a spaceship.

"Maybe we could try fusion once!"
When Bardock heard this, the corner of his mouth twitched violently.
"I'm going to meet Frieza!"

Bardock didn't hesitate at all. Running away wasn't in his nature. Even if he died, he would die gloriously!
"Super Saiyan 4 is really something. Goodbye, Kakarot!"
