Nevaeh crept forward cautiously, her breath hitching as the shadowy figure grew clearer.
She rose slowly onto her tiptoes, preparing to lunge.
"Don't move!" Before she could get any closer, a cold, glinting knife suddenly appeared, its point aimed directly between her eyes.
Her heart slammed against her ribs.
Instinctively, she looked up.
When she recognized the face, shock washed over her, replacing the fear. "It's you!"
She never expected to run into Garret here, of all places.
Garret was equally surprised to see her. His grip on the knife loosened just a fraction, but the dangerous mix of anger and vigilance in his eyes didn't fade.
He barked, "Get out. Now."
Nevaeh opened her mouth to ask what he was doing, why he looked like a cornered predator ready to kill.
His naturally grim face, combined with the murderous aura, made him seem utterly untouchable, especially standing in the middle of Kevin's office.
