"Looking for me?"
A deep, cold voice cut through the silence, making Nevaeh shiver.
She turned around quickly and found Cassius standing behind her, his tall figure looming in the doorway as if he'd appeared out of thin air.
"I…" Nevaeh lowered her head, refusing to meet his eyes.
She spoke quickly, her tone soft but guarded. "My grandpa is coming over soon to have dinner with us."
With that, she turned to leave.
Just as she was about to walk away, his hand shot out and caught her arm.
Nevaeh froze but didn't look back. She stared straight ahead, determined not to engage with him.
"Have you been crying?" Cassius's voice was no longer cold. It was low and smooth now, tinged with something that almost sounded like concern.
"No," she murmured stubbornly, still refusing to meet his gaze.
Cassius wasn't ready to let her go. He stepped in front of her, his deep eyes studying every tiny flicker of emotion on her face.
