"Only three dollars an hour?"
Looking at the strong figure in front of her, sweat constantly flowing along his powerful upper body muscles,
but with a very relaxed expression, Jane Foster asked in disbelief, "Are you sure you only get twenty dollars for a whole day's work on the construction site?"
She and Daisy had been staying here for over two months.
If Dr. Selvig hadn't asked her and Daisy to wait for him here, the two of them would have left this small town long ago.
She went out shopping today and, passing by the small town's construction site, saw Thor working there with a hammer.
Jane Foster was shocked by the sight.
After greeting him and chatting for a while, Jane Foster found out that Thor only earned twenty dollars a day at this construction site?
Wasn't this a scam?!
This was condemnable; in the past, such people would have been hung from a streetlamp!
"This job is actually not bad."
With one hand on his hip, Thor looked at the slightly unhappy Jane Foster in front of him and smiled, "You know, I like this job. Even though it's very hard work, hitting those things with a hammer..."
"It reminds me of my old days in Asgard, with Mjolnir."
As he spoke, Thor casually wiped the sweat from his body. His expression was still relaxed, but a trace of worry flashed in his eyes. "I only recently realized that money is so important on your Earth."
"When I first came here, Doris took care of me, but she had to go to work during the day."
"As a result, Doris has been sick recently and is very weak. I heard from the doctor that a lot of money is needed for treatment."
Saying this, Thor raised his hand and brushed through his long hair, a hint of helplessness in his tone. "This job is the only way I can find to earn money!"
"And I can get the money just by putting in some effort. It's very fair!"
"After all, in our Asgard—"
"Is Doris sick?"
Hearing Thor say his girlfriend was sick, Jane Foster asked with concern, "Is she alright?"
"Not very well. Her face is very pale, her body is very weak, and she's been taking medicine."
"Doesn't she have medical insurance, or Medicaid? Didn't she buy commercial medical insurance?"
"I'm not sure, but probably not."
Listening to Jane Foster mention many things he didn't understand,
Thor spread his hands to indicate he didn't really know.
"Well, if you don't mind, can I visit her later? After all, during this time, we've been neighbors."
"And I've met Doris a few times; she's really a very gentle and kind person."
Well, Jane Foster's house was just a few steps away from Doris's house.
You could call them neighbors!
"Of course! I think she would be very happy if you visited."
Hearing Jane Foster's words, Thor nodded with a smile. "I work here all day, and I'm also worried she'll be bored at home alone."
"By the way, Thor, listen!"
Gently nodding, Jane Foster remembered the issue of Thor's salary and immediately said, "You should know that according to the latest industry standards set by the guild this year, construction workers' hourly wages compared to last year..."
Seeing Thor start to look confused about what she was talking about again,
Jane Foster directly took Thor's arm and walked towards the construction site, saying, "Take me to your supervisor!"
"Paying three dollars an hour? He really should be hung from a streetlamp!"
Not far away!
Watching this scene, Phil Coulson picked up the phone and dialed out: "Doris, your neighbor, Ms. Jane Foster, has taken Thor to find the person in charge of the construction site."
"It looks like she's going to demand Thor's proper hourly wage!"
Small Town Home.
Listening to Phil Coulson's report on the other end of the phone, Doris turned on the speakerphone and, while holding the controller with both hands playing a video game, said:
"Well, she's quite a girl with a sense of justice. Not bad."
"Phil Coulson, find a way to get Thor and Jane Foster to interact a bit more. This kind of arrangement shouldn't be too difficult for you, right?"
"Is it about time?"
"Pretty much!"
Seeing the character she controlled die on the screen, Doris picked up the phone and said, "Although I don't know why Nick chose the girl Jane Foster as my successor,"
"But during this period, I've tried to get in touch with her, and she is indeed a very nice girl."
"And over the past two months or so, Thor has improved a lot. His mentality is much better compared to when he was first exiled from Asgard."
"Now, we just need to stage a big show for him, and then I'm going back to the Eyrie too."
"If we don't go back, those new recruits at the Eyrie will think they can join S.H.I.E.L.D. just by training their abilities!"
Hearing Doris's words, Phil Coulson smiled.
If someone said that just two months could change a person's character and make their mentality mature and grow,
then probably no one would believe it.
However, Phil Coulson had witnessed with his own eyes how Doris had guided the entire process over the past two months.
Generally speaking, if it were an ordinary person, Doris would only need a few days, no more than half a month, to change them.
Phil Coulson even knew that it took Doris less than a week
to complete the transformation of a person from a cowardly character to one with strong psychological resilience.
But this Thor was quite "stubborn," in Doris's words!
This referred to the character and mentality he had developed over more than 1,500 years.
As a last resort, Doris had even adopted some unconventional methods.
Even so, it took nearly two and a half months for Doris to slowly turn him around.
You have to understand, she was S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top psychiatrist and also one of the top agents in the world!
Even then, according to Doris, they were still a little short, needing that last bit of stimulation!
Hmm, didn't you see? Thor, the majestic Prince of Asgard, went to a construction site to swing a hammer just to "treat" Doris.
That was one of those positive changes!
There were many other similar instances!
Listening to Doris on the other end of the phone, Phil Coulson smiled and said, "Doris, haven't you gotten a little tempted yourself over these more than two months?"
As soon as he finished speaking, there was silence on the other end.
In that brief moment, Phil Coulson felt—unscientifically—a cold aura emanating from the phone.
Although it was very possible that this icy aura actually stemmed from his own impression of Doris.
After a moment, Doris's voice on the other end carried a trace of indifference: "For me, only the rookies at the Eyrie can put my mind at ease."
"Also, tell Nick Fury that this year's Eyrie training camp death rate will increase by 3% from the original baseline!"
"Wait? Hey, Doris, please don't do this. You know us..."
"Nick Fury will understand; he's doing the same thing over there!"
After saying that, Doris immediately hung up the phone!
Looking at the phone that had ended the call, Phil Coulson was silent for a moment.
Now, even more rookies are going to die...
I wish Doris would be gentler...
Turning around, hearing the familiar sound of a Quinjet in the sky,
Phil Coulson immediately got into his car and drove towards S.H.I.E.L.D.'s temporary camp.
Maybe this time, Captain Rogers, who was returning the hammer, could help him get an autograph for his collection card!
