Hogwarts Animagus Chaos
Lucien patted Ethel's massive head with a helpless sigh, signaling for her to stop drooling while she stared intently at Nagini.
"Stop staring. She's your… uh, new roommate."
Of course, he was only joking. Lucien planned to section off an entire separate layer inside the suitcase and seal it with powerful locking spells to keep Nagini completely isolated from the other creatures.
It was for everyone's safety.
Nagini's condition was far too unstable right now, and some of the magical beasts in the case weren't exactly friendly.
Ethel's eyes dimmed instantly. She let out a low, mournful trill.
She had already been sternly lectured by Lucien: roommates and coworkers were not food.
"Good evening, boss."
A slightly raspy voice came from nearby.
Newt turned and saw the house-elf standing a short distance away.
Instead of the usual ragged pillowcase or dirty sack most house-elves wore, this one was dressed in a neatly tailored shirt, clean trousers, and even a pair of small leather shoes.
The house-elf greeted Lucien, then turned his large tennis-ball-sized eyes curiously toward Newt.
Newt studied him with equal curiosity.
Lucien had a house-elf in his suitcase?
That surprised him.
Since Lucien came from a Muggle family, he wouldn't have inherited a family house-elf. And the way this one was dressed was a clear sign of freedom—no pure-blood family would dress their house-elf so respectably.
Giving clothes to a house-elf meant granting them freedom.
He even called Lucien "boss."
A hired house-elf?
Newt thought of the ones at Nicolas Flamel's home, but those were clearly different from this one.
"Mr. Scamander, this is Dobby," Lucien introduced. "Dobby, this is Newt Scamander, one of the world's leading experts on magical creatures."
"Dobby is my hired assistant. He helps manage the world inside the suitcase, takes care of the magical creatures, tends the herb garden…"
Newt nodded, his gaze toward Dobby carrying a hint of emotion.
Pride in serving a master was something almost baked into house-elves' very nature.
A house-elf who actively sought and won their freedom was incredibly rare.
One who continued working after gaining that freedom was practically unheard of.
And getting paid for the work? That was considered shameful—almost humiliating—for most house-elves.
Most people would probably be shocked to hear a house-elf asking for employment with wages and turn them away immediately.
Just then, the sound of flapping wings approached.
Several white-winged "little angels" flew over and landed affectionately beside Lucien, nuzzling against his hand.
Newt watched them with open wonder and fascination.
"These are alchemical constructs I created," Lucien explained. "They help Dobby with the daily upkeep."
Newt stepped closer to examine one of the Cupids carefully.
The little fellow wasn't shy at all. He tilted his head, met Newt's eyes, and even gave a cheerful little wave with his tiny hand.
"You'd never know they were artificial…" Newt murmured.
There were almost no visible signs they were man-made. No stiff movements, no blank expressions. Each one was lively, with bright, intelligent eyes, and they even knew how to act cute and affectionate.
Newt thought back to all the alchemical creations Lucien had shown him—the East Wind brooms, SwiftSpeak, these Cupids…
Every single one far exceeded ordinary alchemical standards, each one showcasing remarkable skill and creativity.
Newt sighed inwardly. Nicolas had truly chosen the perfect student.
That extraordinary talent for alchemy would finally be passed on completely.
Unlike magical creature studies—which Newt could document in books, sharing their habits and characteristics with the world so people could appreciate both their charm and their danger, learning to protect them while respecting their claws and magic—alchemy was far more complex and "dangerous."
Basic introductory knowledge was one thing, but the deeper secrets needed to be handled with extreme care if ever written down.
No one wanted a wizard following a book's instructions only to accidentally create something explosive that blew up both them and their house.
That was why alchemy was traditionally passed down through direct master-apprentice relationships, taught through hands-on guidance and personal instruction.
Thankfully, Nicolas no longer had to worry about finding a successor.
With Lucien's alchemical constructs and house-elf assistant working together, the world inside the suitcase ran more smoothly and efficiently than ever.
Newt couldn't help feeling a touch of envy.
It reminded him of his own assistant from his younger days—Bunty.
She had worked perfectly with him and had been a huge help caring for the creatures.
But after he married Tina, Bunty had chosen to resign.
Newt had never quite understood why. He thought the pay and conditions he offered had been quite good.
As for house-elves…
The Scamander family did have one.
But it had gone to his older brother, Theseus Scamander, as the family heir.
If only he had a group of these helpful alchemical constructs…
Newt watched the busy little "angels" and thought to himself.
Still, as the elder, how could he possibly ask a junior for something like that?
Besides, Newt had never been particularly skilled at social interactions or asking for favors. He had no idea how to bring it up.
"Mr. Scamander," Lucien said suddenly, "why don't you take some of these alchemical constructs with you?"
Newt blinked in surprise.
Lucien smiled and continued, "Please don't refuse. They're not actually that difficult to make."
Newt opened his mouth but wasn't sure what to say.
Lucien glanced at the Cupids, his tone light and casual. "Plus, if you bring them home, they can help look after the magical creatures and organize your notes. It would make things much easier for you. That way, you'd have more energy—"
"—to help even more magical creatures."
