Chisato came from the Abyss?
Not just her, but all five people in the café came from the Abyss?
This...
While Luo Shu was still shocked, Chisato casually placed her hands behind her head and said nonchalantly:
"When we first arrived in this world, we were almost killed by the Metropolitan Police Department's special operations team... We actually exchanged gunfire with them. If Big Sister hadn't stepped in to negotiate and used her position to vouch for us, we'd probably have been turned into specimens long ago."
At this point, Chisato lowered her hands, crossed her arms, and said with a troubled expression:
"But even with her guarantee, things like attending school are still forbidden. Honestly, back home, we couldn't go to school because we were undocumented, and now it's the same here. In a way, it's quite complicated~"
"There's such a thing?" Luo Shu couldn't help but express his shock and pressed further: "But speaking of which, Chisato, what exactly is the Abyss like?"
"Ah, I'm not really sure how to explain it."
Chisato scratched her cheek awkwardly, then folded her arms in front of her as she thought seriously:
"The world where Takina and I lived was relatively normal, apart from some advanced technology. Things like sorcerers, psychics, or demons didn't exist at all."
"Everyone in the café actually worked as agents for a government-affiliated organisation in that world. Wait, are Lycoris considered agents? I suppose they should be."
After some consideration, Chisato explained:
"We were doing Monday cleaning in the café when suddenly everyone inside was transported to this world. Some mice, cockroaches, and stray cats came along too. Actually, we were cleaning because we'd discovered those pests."
"After arriving here, we were fine, but the mice and stray cats suddenly turned into monsters that loved attacking people."
"According to this world's terminology, this phenomenon is indeed characteristic of an 'Abyss' manifestation."
Here, Chisato scratched her head awkwardly:
"But if you ask me what the Abyss is like, I really don't know. I've got no clue. In my experience, it was just—poof—a blink, and suddenly we were here."
"Besides, my life was completely ordinary before. There wasn't anything strange at all. If anything, it's this world that's become weird, right?"
Giant rats... So this is the origin of the radiation rats mentioned in the news? Ordinary rats from the original world transform into these monsters after an Abyss descent?
And this so-called 'Abyss'... is it actually another world? Multiple alien worlds layered together like mille-feuille - is that what they call the 'Abyss'?
Animals become monsters when passing through the Abyss, but what about humans? Chisato Nishikigi and the others seem perfectly normal...
As Luo Shu pondered this, Chisato Nishikigi - as if unsure how to explain the Abyss and afraid of being questioned further - abruptly changed the subject:
"Speaking of which, I've heard some special sorcerers called 'Mediums' have unique eyes that can see strange things others can't. And apparently, if you respond to those things, they'll descend from the Abyss."
At this point, Chisato became extremely serious as she asked Luo Shu:
"Luo Shu, could you check if there are any of these strange things in the café?"
Luo Shu gave her a deadpan look: "...You just said only special sorcerers can do that. Do I look like one of them?"
Chisato patted Luo Shu's shoulder and laughed: "Haha, just kidding~"
"The café's our base, you know? Big Sister set up artefacts here ages ago to block those things. So even if you were a Medium, you wouldn't see anything weird here."
She then added: "Oh, right, about artefacts - you must have picked up Big Sister's wallet for her to find you, right?"
Luo Shu froze: "You mean Chief Tachibana's wallet is a special artefact?"
"Exactly, what we call an Abyss Artefact." Chisato nodded cheerfully. "We call it the Lucky Wallet - something that constantly gets lost but brings good fortune when found."
"That's how Big Sister got her strongest weapon - she picked it up right in front of me!"
'That wallet's actually that powerful? Damn... I got played! 200,000 yen, and she let me off that easily?!'
Now Luo Shu understood Kirika Tachibana's cunning. This woman... she was baiting him all along!!
"Alright, clothes selected - let's go." Chisato gave Luo Shu a gentle push towards the exit.
"That's it? Don't I need to try them on?" Luo Shu asked, bewildered as she nudged him.
"No need! My eyes are more accurate than machines - I already know your measurements perfectly. These clothes are the best fit."
Realising her slip, Chisato quickly coughed and corrected herself:
"Ahem, just joking! Anyway, let's head to the armoury to get your weapon."
She made a gun gesture with her fingers:
"Something you've never handled before!"
Hearing this, Luo Shu fell silent. Carrying the clothes, he let Chisato guide him out of the warehouse towards a door with a mechanical lock.
"Since you'll be using firearms later, Mika-san will take your photo downstairs and send it to the Metropolitan Police Department to process your gun licence and police ID. Oh, by the way, are you left or right-handed?"
"Right-handed." Luo Shu answered as he watched Chisato Nishikigi expertly open the armoury.
Click!
The motion-sensor lights flickered on.
Despite his mental preparation, Luo Shu was still startled by the sight inside the armoury. Pistols, machine guns, sniper rifles, even portable rocket launchers—an overwhelming array of firearms lined the room. He even spotted drones equipped with missile interfaces.
Short of tanks and helicopters, this armoury had just about everything.
But seriously, the SDS's firepower was ridiculously excessive. Are you sure you're the rabbits, not the eagles?
At that moment, Chisato Nishikigi strode into the armoury, hands on her hips, grinning cheerfully:
"Since you're a beginner and also a Wind Adept, I recommend just carrying a pistol for self-defence—something to intimidate clueless bystanders if necessary."
"Anything heavier might be risky for a newbie like you. Oh, but do grab a few grenades. I hear Wind Adepts from your homeland pair well with grenades—some even call them 'technical bombers.'"
"..."
Luo Shu silently watched as Chisato walked to a counter, retrieved a pistol, and handed it to him.
"Sig Sauer P226, 15-round magazine, muzzle velocity of 350 meters per second, effective range of 100 meters. Perfect for beginners. Here, see how it feels."
Luo Shu took the grip, adjusting his hold. It felt decent—though given his inexperience, any gun probably would.
Still, firearms fired at supersonic speeds, far faster than his wind ability. When he killed that rat earlier, he could clearly see the wind's trajectory—definitely subsonic.
So, was his ability just weak, or was modern weaponry too overpowered?
"Like it?" Chisato asked, watching him examine the gun.
"Feels alright," Luo Shu nodded.
"Great!" Clapping her hands together, she beamed. "Then you won't mind if we head to the range for some practice, right?"
Luo Shu smiled. "I'd love to."
