Chapter 2 - Hypocritical

Jermaine said carefully, "Although Benson is a bit violent and won't survive longer than a year, the Leach family is the richest in Ocean City, with wealth and influence. Even if Benson dies, you'll still be Mrs. Leach and live a comfortable, wealthy life forever. Jill, Dad is doing you a favor. You're not well-educated and your reputation is bad. It's goodluck to marry... "

Juliana didn't bother listening to his shameless words. She turned her back on him and lay down. "Call me when the Leach family's car arrives."

Jermaine said no more and left, satisfied since she had finally compromised.

He ordered a maid to keep watch outside her door, afraid Juliana would escape or try to kill herself again.

After Jermaine left, Juliana opened her phone and read the top news.

[Miranda Sanchez, the most famous socialite in Sailor City, died at 9:00 a.m. and left the Sanchez family property to her fiancé…]

She didn't read the details, but instead clicked on one of the interview videos.

It was a reporter interviewing Stewart.

Juliana clenched her fists and breathed heavily when she saw Stewart's face. He looked tired, his red eyes swollen with tears, his expression full of grief.

Hypocrite!

Liar!

Scheming bastard!

In the video, Stewart forced himself to speak between sobs. "I won't change the name of Sanchez Group. It's the only proof that Miranda existed in this world. Aside from the company and real estate, I will donate the remaining 100 million dollars of Miranda's assets to people in need. I truly loved Miranda. I won't be in a relationship or marry anyone for three years as a final respect to our love."

Juliana stared at the screen.

Stewart, wearing a white coat and glasses, looked elegant and gentle, nothing like the cold, merciless man in the operating room.

But this was the same man who cut her chest open with a scalpel, saying those cruel words!

Wendy had called her heart dirty, and they ripped it out just because she had loved him!

And worse, they had deceived Timothy!

Juliana took a deep breath. She couldn't waste her time being resentful now. She didn't have the strength for revenge yet.

She searched for Timothy Greene, trying to find any news about him, but there was nothing.

Well, the Greene family was the wealthiest and most powerful in Sailor City, and Timothy had always been low-profile. It made sense there was no news about him.

Still, thinking about Wendy being a voice actress made Juliana uneasy. What if she used her voice to deceive Timothy?

But on second thought, that would be too risky. If Wendy realized she was alive, the Lewis family could never protect her.

The Leach family might, but she wasn't married into them yet. And even if she was, she couldn't guarantee they'd help her.

She thought carefully.

In the end, Juliana decided she couldn't act recklessly until she knew whether the Leach family would back her.

She had to stay alive, if only to take her revenge.

Looking down at her fingers, Juliana smiled faintly. "Heh, Wendy, I won't let you get what you want."

At half past five, the Leach family's car arrived.

Jermaine came to call her.

Seeing Juliana in a plain white dress, her face pale and her loose hair draped like a ghost, he scolded angrily, "Why don't you put on makeup and change your clothes? Do you want to scare people like this?"

Juliana ignored him and walked straight downstairs.

Jermaine was anxious but powerless. After all, the car had already arrived, and the Leach family wouldn't wait.

By the stairs stood Selene Lewis, wearing a white slip dress, looking tender, sweet, and lovable.

There was also a middle-aged man standing in the living room. When he saw her coming down, he stepped forward to take her luggage and nodded respectfully.

"Miss Lewis."

It was Philip Lee, the butler of the Leach family.

The Leach family had sent him personally to pick Juliana up, showing how much regard they had for her.

Selene looked at her apologetically. "Jill, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do it."

Juliana stopped in front of her, looking down at her with a cold, condescending gaze. She said indifferently:

"Are you apologizing for failing to help me escape, or for pushing me into the river?"

It had been Selene who helped Juliana escape that day. But not long after Juliana ran out, Jermaine had chased after her.

Standing by the river, Juliana had threatened him with death rather than marry.

Selene came to persuade her, but in the end, she pushed her into the river.

Word soon spread through the city that Juliana Lewis would rather die than marry Benson Leach.

Both Jermaine and Philip looked over at Selene significantly.

Selene panicked at once, lowering her eyes. "I'm sorry. You didn't want to run away or jump into the river. It was all my fault. I'm sorry."

Jermaine's face darkened. "Jill, don't let your sister take all the blame."

Juliana gave a faint snort. "Walk me out."

Selene looked up at Juliana, then followed her outside.

It was a cool autumn night, the courtyard quiet except for the sound of the fountain pool.

Juliana suddenly stopped in front of the fountain, then grabbed Selene and shoved her forward.

With a loud splash, Selene fell into the pool, flailing in a mess. She tried to climb out. "Jill, you... "

But Juliana kicked her back in. "A daughter born out of wedlock is not my sister."

Everything happened too quickly.

Jermaine froze for a moment before rushing forward to drag Juliana back. "Why did you push Selene?"

Selene shivered in the water, arms crossed over her chest. "Dad, don't blame Juliana. It's all because of me she got taken back. It doesn't matter, as long as she isn't angry at me."

Jermaine's fury rose. "There's no excuse for her... "

But Juliana had already walked away toward the Leach family's car and got in, ignoring them completely.

Philip glanced at the scene and said calmly to Jermaine, "Mr. Lewis, the Leach family will take good care of your daughter."

Jermaine was too worried about Selene to respond, not even looking up until the car disappeared.

His heart was filled only with worry for Selene, the one who had been pushed into the pool.

As her name suggested, Selene had always been like the moon, surrounded by countless stars.

In the car, Philip kept glancing at Juliana in the rearview mirror. Her face was calm and emotionless, as if none of it mattered to her at all.

She seemed completely different from the rumored Juliana.

It was already dark by the time they reached the Leach family estate. The grand house was brightly lit.

Old Mr. Leach was seated in the living room when Juliana came in.

The butler stepped forward. "Master, this is Miss Lewis."

Old Mr. Leach looked up, slightly surprised. She looked nothing like the photos he had seen.

In those photos, Juliana had red hair, smoky makeup, and bright red lips, like a delinquent girl.

But now, with rosy lips and white teeth, Juliana looked dignified, magnanimous, aloof, and proud, like a lone wolf.

In some ways, she even resembled his grandson.

Juliana nodded slightly and greeted politely. "Mr. Leach."

Old Mr. Leach was quite satisfied. She was generous and not timid in the slightest.

"I don't care what you were like before. As long as you behave yourself and fulfill your duty as a young lady from now on, the Leach family will not treat you harshly."
