Jake awoke suddenly to hearing Jeremy scream in pain and the sound of bones cracking. He looked over and saw Jeremy struggling in pain, convulsing and writhing in pain. Clawing at his skin and grunting loudly Jeremy tossed and turned bathed in the full moons light growing fur and what looked like claws. Jake fell out of bed crawling over to the door as Jeremy stood up on the bed howling now fully transformed a werewolf. Suddenly there was pounding on the door. Jake flung the door open and saw a large man covered in scars and sutures, red eyes gleaming as he looked at the fully wolfed out Jeremy. Jake dove for the door leading out to the balcony to get from in-between the two monstrous brutes and as he hurried out the door they slammed into each other in a flurry of claws and patchwork fists. All he could do was stare as the two tore into each other mouth agape. From over his shoulder Jake heard "Are they at it again?" "Again you mean this happens regularly?" Jake said as he looked around to see where the voice was coming from. Then he saw floating in mid-air a few feat outside the balcony was a pale boy looking maybe 15 or 16, pale skin like polished marble, eyes a deep burgundy shade of red and moonlight glinting slightly off his fangs. Jake felt the color drain from his face as slowly he started to fall, but the floating boy caught him before he could hit the ground.
He gently woke up on the couch wondering if it had all been a dream. With a start looking up only to realize there, stood before him, was the boy who was floating outside the balcony. Jake slightly recoiled at the sight of the pale boy. "Easy now, don't want you to pass out again." "What happened one minute I was in bed then." "Yeah, sorry about that Jeremy should really know better on a full moon, but no real harm done Frankie got him under control." "No harm done? That was crazy what happened to Jeremy and what was that thing in my doorway?" "Have you never been around werewolf's or shifters before? Sorry I just assumed you encountered them before." "No I've never seen anything like either of those, and who or what are you?" "Well," Austin said while clearing his throat, "Jeremy is a werewolf, and unfortunately it happened to be a full moon tonight, a full bright hunter's moon at that, and unfortunately it caught him off guard. That normally doesn't happen he's normally way to careful for that to happen. He must have been really busy or got distracted or something and the change caught him off guard. And the big guy is Josh, but everyone calls him Frankie, on account of him being a Frankenstein and all, and I'm Austin, the resident vampire. By the way, what are you?" "Me? I'm not anything, just a gay teen freaking out because he almost got mauled by his new roommates, who apparently are monsters." "Wait a minute, you're just a plain human being?" "Yeah, what else would I be?" A worried look came over Austin's face, "Oh this isn't good. Just stay here a moment, let me go get Chris." Austin gracefully flew over to the first bedroom door closest to the front door and knocked loudly, "Chris, I know you said not to bother you unless it was important, but we kind of have an emergency on our hands." The door flew open smoke billowing from inside the dark room, out strolled a guy looking maybe in his mid to late twenties. "Ok Austin what now did you get blood on your favorite caped again, or did another midnight snack come to his senses?" "No, that was just the one time and wasn't my fault to begin with, you know that. It's the new guy, He's apparently human." "Ok, and?" "Like plain, every day, mild mannered, never been around monsters before human." "What that's impossible. He was checked by Mr. Twitch himself." "Well, go talking to him and see for yourself." Austin pointed over to Jake on the couch, Jake realizing for the first time he was only wearing his boxer briefs. Chris crossed the room like he was sliding on ice, seeming to slide gracefully without taking any steps. He stopped right in front of Jake and pulls a little silver monocle out of his pocket. "No, see for yourself he's definitely some kind of monster, I can't tell what type oddly enough, never seen an aura like that before." Chris hands the monocle over to Austin and says "You're that's definitely a monster aura but I don't recognize the type either. I thought you said you weren't a monster, Jake?" "I'm not, I'm just a normal human teenager." Just then Jeremy comes out of the bathroom still drying off his hair with a towel, "Jake, Man I'm glad you're OK. I didn't hurt you, did I?" "No, I'm fine. I'm glad to see you back to being less hairy and on 2 legs." Jake said a little more sarcastic than he meant too. Embarrassed Jeremy went to apologize again but was cut off by Chris. "Look, guys I hate to interrupt your little meet cute sequel, but we need to figure this out. So you've never sprouted fangs or claws, or anything like that?" "No, I'm just a plain human as far as I know." "So you weren't sent here by your monster parents of caught by the men in black and sent here to learn to play nice?" "No and I barely understood any of those words put together like that." "Ok, to start with everyone here is a different type of monster and it would appear that you are one as well, although they really should have covered this before you were sent here. A lot of monster kids get sent to this program so they can learn how to function in the world and better fit in with normal humans when they need to." "Ok, that explains why everyone else is her, but why am I here?" "Because even if you didn't know it you are a type of monster as well." Jakes head started to swirl at the thought he was some kind of beast or creature thing from the weird side of the world. "How do you know?" Chris passed Jake the monocle head saw him using earlier. "Give it a look." Jake hesitantly held the monocle up to his eye and slowly looked around. Everyone had a glow to them like they were all bathed in a different color light. Chris had a blue glow to him and just over his shoulder he could see Austin had a red glow. He turned his head and looked at Jeremy and saw a green glow around him. Jake hesitantly held up his hand and saw a black glow round him more like he was bathed in shadow. "Do you see it?" said Chris. "Yeah, everyone is glowing different colors, but why am I all shadowy?" "That's because you're a monster too. If you want more proof, only monsters can use monster tools like that monocle." "What am I?" "Well, we don't know. Normally you never would have been sent here without knowing what you are, most guys already know or at least have a good idea. Really, it's to prevent stuff like this from happening." Jeremy chimed in, "Wait so you've never seen a monster before or anything like that? Oh God, I'm so sorry Jake. You must have been so freaked out waking up to me wolfing out like that." Jeremy came over to the couch and sat next to Jake. "Seriously, I am so sorry." Jeremy reached over and tried to take Jakes hand but he pulled back, a little heart-broken Jeremy withdrew his hand. "Look you couldn't have known apparently and the only real damage done was to my room." "Oh, I'll fix that." Chris said with a snap of his fingers. Jake saw sparks fly from his fingers as he snapped. "Look up until the whole wolf out thing, I was having a great time, and don't worry about it I'm sure given the apparent situation something like that was bound to happen." Realizing he had hurt him earlier, Jake reached out and took Jeremy's hand. "Seriously, that was still one of the best times I've had in my life, everything included." Jeremy blushed slightly. "Before we continue, Jeremy, do you have another of those J's you had earlier? That would really help settle my nerves, because I still want to hear more about all this, I just want to chill out a little first." "Yes", Chris said, "I think a group smoke session would be in order."
