Chapter 67 – Strategic Briefing

The grand hall of Marquis Helbrecht's residence was illuminated by countless candles, their flickering light reflecting off the stone walls and casting long shadows over the assembled leaders. A massive oak table stretched across the center of the room, covered with maps detailing every inch of the contested territory. The tension was palpable; this was a gathering for those entrusted with the fate of thousands.

At one end of the table sat Fenrir, Baron of Eisenwald, flanked by his generals. Only the highest-ranking officers and vassals were present: Dukes, Counts, Viscounts, and the commanders of Marquis Helbrecht's army. The Eisenwald contingent was small, but their presence commanded respect.

Marquis Helbrecht stood at the head of the table, his gaze sweeping across the room. "We face a formidable challenge," he began, pointing to a cluster of enemy positions on the map. "Fenrir, your forces will be positioned on the right flank, alongside two Barons and a Viscount. You will act as both spear and eye—testing the enemy's defenses while safeguarding the flank."

Fenrir studied the map carefully, analyzing distances, angles, and possible maneuvers. Every position, every formation was calculated with precision. There was no hesitation; his past experiences and knowledge of warfare guided his mind.

Beside him, Viktor Redmane, commander of the infantry, nodded. "Baron Fenrir, my men are ready. The shield wall will hold the frontline while archers soften the enemy ahead."

Fenrir turned to Garrik Stormhoof, commander of the cavalry. "Garrik, your riders must respond instantly to any breach. Strike decisively from the flanks, but do not overextend."

"Understood," Garrik replied, his tone steady. "Diagonal formations for swift charges, coordinated with the archers on the wings."

Selene Aestra, leader of the archers, tapped key positions on the map. "From the northern ridge, we can target clusters of enemy soldiers. My archers will form V and Wedge patterns to maximize impact on priority targets—their commanders and heavy units."

Lyra Nightshade, commander of the scout and assassin unit, added, "My operatives will infiltrate the forest along the marsh edges. They'll disrupt supply lines and provide intelligence in real time."

Marquis Helbrecht's voice rang with authority. "We have over 30,000 troops at our disposal. Fenrir, despite the size of your contingent, I trust you will play a decisive role on the right flank. Execute your plan carefully. Discipline will determine the outcome."

Fenrir acknowledged the Marquis and turned his attention fully to his own commanders. Every unit, every man, every formation was assigned with exacting detail: the infantry forming an unyielding shield wall, archers targeting specific enemy clusters, cavalry poised to strike, and scouts ready to sabotage and report.

The Eisenwald commanders reviewed their respective roles:

1. Infantry (Main Battalion) – 1,800 soldiers, led by Viktor Redmane. Shield wall and direct engagement.

2. Archers (Light Artillery Unit) – 700 archers, led by Selene Aestra. Long-range support using V and Wedge formations.

3. Cavalry (Rapid Response & Flank Unit) – 450 riders, led by Garrik Stormhoof. Diagonal charges and flanking maneuvers.

4. Scouts/Assassins (Special Unit) – 150 elite operatives, led by Lyra Nightshade. Reconnaissance and sabotage.

5. Artillery & Heavy Weapons – 50 operators with 10 ballistae, led by Roland Ironarm. Long-range strikes on concentrated enemy formations.

Fenrir emphasized coordination above all. "Victory depends not solely on strength, but on precision and adaptability. If the enemy attempts to break our lines, act immediately. Follow the plan, but think independently where necessary."

The Marquis nodded approvingly. "Prepare your forces. Tomorrow morning, we advance to the open fields. Fenrir, your flank will be pivotal. Lead wisely."

As the council dispersed, each commander took copies of the maps and notes. Fenrir remained, eyes scanning the terrain for the final time. Every hill, marsh, and forest was studied. He knew the coming battle would test not only strength but also intelligence, courage, and resolve.

The plan was set. Positions were established. Eisenwald's right flank, small but lethal, was ready to become the crimson fang of the battlefield.
