Chapter 1 - backstory & lore

Long before Joker or Hikaru were born, long before the modern regions even bore their names, there was a kingdom split by a single fracture in philosophy. The ruler of that land had two heirs, twins whose hearts burned bright with different convictions. One sought a world where ideals could reshape destiny — a place where people and Pokémon could rise above limitations through willpower and dream. The other sought a world grounded in truth, unshaken by fantasies, where honesty and reality would guide humanity's path.

The twin princes were not enemies at first. Together, they commanded the might of a single dragon — a vast, black-and-white colossus born from the union of lightning and flame. But as their visions for the kingdom diverged, so too did the dragon's spirit. Unable to reconcile their divide, the creature split into two beings: the thunderous Zekrom, who fought for the younger's ideals, and the blazing Reshiram, who stood by the elder's truths. The clash between them was so fierce that the land itself quaked, forcing the twins' descendants to intervene.

To prevent the destruction of their world, those descendants swore an oath. The bloodline of one would seal away Zekrom in the form of the Dark Stone, to be awakened only when a new bearer of ideals worthy of the dragon's thunder arose. The other bloodline would guard the Light Stone, the vessel of Reshiram, so it could answer when truth itself was endangered. Neither family was permitted to wield both dragons again, for balance demanded separation.

Generations passed. The old kingdom fell to ruin, its history warped into half-remembered myths. The families who had once borne the weight of gods faded into obscurity, their descendants scattering across regions and lives. Yet the stones remained, waiting.

Joker's lineage descended from the guardians of Zekrom — those who had hidden the Dark Stone in secret chambers and carried its memory in whispered stories. For centuries, they feared the dragon's return, teaching their children that thunder was both a promise and a warning. Joker grew up under the shadow of this legacy, perhaps without fully understanding its depth. To the outside world, the Dark Stone was nothing but a relic, an heirloom that hummed faintly with static when held. But to his family, it was a responsibility: a seal holding back a storm that would one day demand release.

Hikaru's bloodline walked a parallel but different path. They were the keepers of the Light Stone, protectors of Reshiram's flame. Unlike Joker's family, theirs embraced the dragon as a symbol of honor and truth, teaching each generation to prize honesty, justice, and clarity. Where Joker's ancestors lived in fear of ideals growing too wild, Hikaru's ancestors placed their faith in truths that could anchor the world.

When fate brought the two heirs together, the stones began to stir. Perhaps it was coincidence, or perhaps the universe itself demanded balance — but the awakening of Zekrom's thunder drew out Reshiram's flame. Neither could remain dormant while the other raged to life. The past repeated itself, but this time it would not be princes who stood at the center of destiny. It would be Joker and Hikaru, each bearing the weight of ancient promises and the power of dragons that once split the earth in half.

Yet history does not always repeat exactly. Where the twins of legend tore their kingdom apart, the choice now lies with Joker and Hikaru: will their clash consume the world again, or will their bond rewrite the ending of the story?
