Chapter 2 - 2 : First Glance

Raven pov

The deal was supposed to be quick.

That's what I kept telling myself as I leaned against my bike, silently watching the others argue over the shipment. The rain was coming soon; I could smell it in the air. Cold, damp, heavy.

"Raven , you're too quiet," Jax uttered. "Got something to say?"

I didn't bother answering. I didn't need to. They knew why I was here. I wasn't the one who talked , was the one who made sure nobody tried anything stupid.

I lit a cigarette instead, taking a slow drag. The smoke curled in the air, mixing with the faint scent of gasoline and wet asphalt. My eyes scanned the alley, sharp and precious

And then… I felt it.

Someone watching me.

I don't know how, but I've always been able to tell. It's like a sixth sense—

I looked up.

At first, I didn't see anything . Just a shadow near the wall. But then… there he was.

A boy.

Not the kind of boy who belonged in an alley like this. No, he was… soft. Even from a distance, I could tell. Brown hair peeking out from his hoodie, big curious eyes that went wide the moment I caught him staring.

He froze.

For a second, we just looked at each other. And in that second, something strange happened.

The noise around me the arguing, the tension, the flickering streetlight it all faded. All I saw was him.

Innocent. Out of place. Like a lost kitten.

And I knew immediately… he shouldn't be here.

The smart thing would've been to let him go. Just pretend I didn't see him. But something in me shifted. Maybe it was curiosity. Maybe it was instinct.

I pushed off my bike and started walking toward him.

He tried to slip away quietly. Cute. Like I wouldn't notice.

"Hey."

He froze. Didn't turn around. Just stiffened like a deer in headlights.

I got closer. "Hey."

This time, he moved faster. Almost at the end of the alley now.

I sighed. Persistent. But not fast enough.

In two long strides, I caught his wrist.

He gasped and spun around, eyes wide. Up close, he looked even softer. Clear skin. Full lips.

"Where do you think you're going?" I asked. My voice came out low, calm. I didn't want to scare him—okay, maybe a little.

"I—uh—I was just leaving," he stuttered. His voice cracked, and I had to bite back a smirk.

"Leaving?" I tilted my head, studying him. "You've been watching us for a while."

"I wasn't! I swear! I—I'm just heading home. I didn't see anything. I promise!" His words tumbled out in a rush.

God, he was terrible at lying. I could see it in his eyes—too honest. Too easy to read.

"You're a bad liar," I said simply.

He looked like he was about to cry. Or faint. Or both.

" Raven ! What's taking so long?" Ash called me from behind .

I didn't look away from him. Raven . Yeah, that's me.

"Nothing," I called back. "Just… a lost kitten."

His brows furrowed in confusion. Kitten. Yeah, that's what he was.

I let go of his wrist. He immediately stepped back, like a scared rabbit.

"You didn't see anything," I told him. My tone was even. Not threatening. Just… certain.

"I… yeah. I didn't." His voice was small.

"And you're going to keep it that way."

Another frantic nod. "Of course. I—I don't even know what I saw."

I slipped my hands into my pockets, giving him one last look. Something told me this wasn't the last time I'd see him.

"Go home," I said.

And he ran.

I watched him until he disappeared onto the main street.

The guys finished the deal in few minutes , But as we wrapped up, I couldn't stop thinking about those wide brown eyes.

He didn't belong here.

But now… he was in my head.
