Carlos's POV
"And now, you've disappointed me too. Don't ever set foot in my office asking for assistance—Crown Publishing will remove you from our author list. Farewell, Jacqueline."
I watched Grace pull the door open. She stood there, holding it while waiting for me to follow.
"Mr. Benjamin?" She questioned when I remained frozen, studying her with a look I couldn't quite define. "We're departing now."
I shook myself from my trance and gave a nod. I trailed behind Grace as we exited the café and headed directly to my vehicle.
Neither of us spoke while I steered the car back toward our office. I attempted to stay silent, but the turmoil churning inside me became unbearable, prompting me to speak. "Grace, regarding what you just told Jacqueline Colton—are you certain you don't believe in second opportunities?"
"No," Grace answered bluntly without hesitation. "I reject the idea of second chances. Every person I've offered one to has done nothing except let me down."
