Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 Leonard: Damn it

The focus returns to Luo En.

"That tone sounds like an Official!"

I can't be seen directly, I need to find something to cover myself... Luo En pondered what could conceal his appearance.

Oh, a monocle! Though small, it can somewhat hide my face and won't seem too out of place.

Luo En quickly put on the monocle, ground from a crystal, over his right eye.

"Run directly? No, if I just walk away, it'll be a self-incrimination." Listening to the footsteps getting closer behind him.

No, I must remain calm, I can't show any flaws.

He shouldn't be able to tell that I'm a transmigrator.

And even though I'm a transmigrator, I haven't done anything bad, so I don't need to feel guilty.

"That's right, I need to smile."

"Just greet him with a smile and explain."

Having made up his mind, Luo En forced a smile onto his face and turned around, revealing a strained grin.

Perhaps because it was a forced smile, Luo En's grin appeared quite exaggerated.

...

Leonard, who was approaching from behind, was about to pat the person's shoulder when he saw the person turn around.

At the same time, he saw a smile appear on the person's monocle-adorned face.

A very pleasant-looking smile.

!!!

Under the faint light of the gas lamp, Luo En clearly saw the appearance of the approaching person.

Black hair, green eyes, quite good-looking, and most importantly, Luo En recognized him as one of the police officers he had encountered while eating at a restaurant on Zorante Street.

Because he had recited a particularly terrible poem at the time, Luo En had a very deep impression of him.

Luo En voluntarily walked over, intending to explain why he was still out on the street so late.

In reality, he simply wanted to placate this police officer; he saw that the officer hadn't even buttoned his uniform and had such a frivolous demeanor, so he probably wasn't very reliable.

Thinking this, Luo En's smile became even brighter as he walked forward step by step.

However, to Luo En's surprise, the young police officer stared at him with a look of utter astonishment, as if he had seen a ghost.

"Don't... don't move!" His left hand suddenly pulled a pistol from its holster, his index finger pressed tightly against the trigger. His Adam's apple bobbed violently, accompanied by a gulp.

'What... what's going on?' Luo En was startled by his actions, unable to understand why the other party would react so strongly.

Luo En moved half a step forward, intending to explain, when he saw the young police officer's Adam's apple move as he mumbled, "Monster."

Then he ran wildly in the opposite direction without looking back, his footsteps and breathing mixing together in the middle of the night, sounding particularly harsh. In the blink of an eye, the police officer disappeared around the street corner, leaving Luo En alone and bewildered in the wind.

The flame in the streetlamp crackled twice, and his shadow twisted into strange shapes beneath his feet.

"Why did that guy run off?"

"Do I have poop on my face?"

"Although I just came out of the underground passage and haven't had time to clean up, I must be a bit messy, but it shouldn't be so scary."

"The quality of police officers in this world is really mediocre!"

"No wonder the transmigration guide said the Officials are untrustworthy; perhaps this is one of the reasons."

Luo En recalled the police officer's reaction just now and sighed.

"Huh? Why do I feel a familiar sense of ease again?"

"And it feels like something is on the verge of dissipating, just a hair's breadth away..."

Luo En stood rooted to the spot, somewhat at a loss about the strange reactions his body was having.

...

...

Meanwhile, Leonard, who was running in the Darkness, gradually slowed down after running an entire block.

"Hoo hoo... hoo... hoo..."

"Old man, is it true, was that really the one you said has been hunting you down...?"

...

"You said you couldn't see through him!"

"Why would such a situation occur when pursuing an Aurora Order member?"

...

"Clone, you mean that person just now was actually a clone of some existence."

...

"What! You said that might have been the main body!"

"Because you couldn't see through his true nature?"

...

"Calm down... I am calm!" Leonard was a bit stubborn. As someone who had an extraordinary encounter and believed himself to be the protagonist of the era, he had never before encountered such a pathetic situation.

"I know, I'll pretend nothing happened."

"You said to be careful of the monocle, why?"

Seeing the old man remain silent, Leonard also fell into silence.

...

"That police officer just now was a bit inexplicable. He clearly called out to me first, but then he ran away himself."

Luo En later followed his intuition and successfully found his way back to the Azure Hotel, finally returning to his room in the early morning.

After taking a shower himself and giving Lachi a bath, the human and the cat lay on the bed.

"Meow~" Lachi let out a lazy meow, then fell silent, seemingly already asleep.

Luo En held her in his arms, stroking the cat while reviewing the day's events.

"If that police officer wasn't afraid of me, then..."

"What I was wearing on my face was that monocle."

"But is there anything special about this monocle?" Luo En picked up the monocle, which was stored in a wooden box on the nightstand, and examined it carefully under the faint light.

"It feels fine, could it be that I look ugly and scary wearing it?" Luo En said with some uncertainty.

"Or is it that this thing really has some problem, but how do I verify that? Divination?" Luo En muttered to himself.

"What's wrong!"

Suddenly, Luo En felt much more tired. A part of his spirituality had been consumed.

"What?" The wooden box in his hand suddenly trembled strangely.

After a few seconds, the lid of the wooden box suddenly opened by itself, and a note appeared out of thin air inside.

"This is?"

Out of caution, Luo En did not directly take out the note but leaned in to look.

The note read:

"Just cover it with spirituality."

"Cover with spirituality? Does it mean to cover this monocle with spirituality?"

Luo En first got up from the bed and then carefully placed the wooden box on the desk.

"This wooden box doesn't seem like an ordinary antique either; it's probably also a Beyonder item."

"Should I try it?" Remembering the note in the box, Luo En had some thoughts.

"Forget it, I'll divine it first."

Saying that, Luo En took out his pendulum, intending to be cautious again, and began his divination.

"This monocle will pose a danger to me."

After about ten seconds, the blue crystal pendulum rotated slightly counter-clockwise, indicating a negative.

"The divination result is fine."

"My spiritual intuition also hasn't reacted, so should I try it?"

As spirituality slowly infused, Luo En felt his fatigue deepen.

"Being able to infuse spirituality means it's indeed unusual."

"But just looking at its appearance, I can't tell anything."

Picking up the monocle, after a moment of hesitation, Luo En placed it over his right eye.
