Chapter 45 - 45

He's just a bit casual, no ill intent," Jean said. In fact, she didn't really dislike Wolverine; otherwise, Wolverine wouldn't have been so shamelessly persistent with her.

Of course, Jean had no intention of cheating. As the movie says, girls like to play with fire with dangerous guys, but they won't bring them home.

Professor Charles thought for a moment and said, "Erik might cause trouble recently, Jean. Have Scott come here to stand guard. As for the matter of Mutant turning back into ordinary people, there's no need to investigate further."

"Okay."

Although Jean was puzzled, she still nodded. At this moment, a thought popped into her mind, and she said, "I'll come over too."

Professor Charles thought Jean just wanted to avoid Wolverine and didn't refuse. He only hoped now that Magneto wouldn't cause any major trouble; Mutant couldn't withstand any more storms.

...

Several days later, at night, in Times Square, Cyclops Scott, wearing sunglasses, glared unhappily at Wolverine Logan. It clearly wasn't his business, but he volunteered to come over. Anyone could see what he was up to.

Logan laughed heartily, "Scott, I was afraid you'd be lonely, so I came specifically to keep you company. No need to thank me. Oh, and your motorcycle is pretty good. I had a blast riding it, so I won't return it for now."

"Hooking up with my woman and riding my motorcycle?"

Scott was so angry he almost blasted Logan with his Cyclops. He snorted coldly, "If you stay far away from me, I'd really thank you."

Logan pretended not to hear. He asked Jean, "Jean, lately I've been dreaming of a dam every night. It should be my original memory. Can you help me with your psychic powers?"

Jean was proficient in telekinesis and psychic powers, considered a disciple of Professor Charles.

Jean said, "Your memory is too blurry. Even Professor Charles couldn't do anything, let alone me."

Logan wouldn't give up, constantly asking Jean for help. Scott grew even more annoyed, but to maintain his composure, he didn't do anything to Wolverine.

While Scott and Logan were vying for affection, Coulson led a group of Agents guarding another part of Times Square.

"Given Magneto's personality, he's definitely going to cause trouble. Everyone, please don't be careless. Also, throw away all metal objects on your person, don't leave a single one."

Coulson said, "The Technology Department has developed a freezing gun that contains no metal, making it perfect for dealing with Magneto."

The freezing gun didn't actually freeze people; it was loaded with Cobra venom. One shot could make a person collapse and lose consciousness.

"Yes."

Everyone nodded. Coulson looked out the window, frowning slightly. If Magneto really came to cause trouble, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s strength wouldn't be enough.

Coulson secretly sighed, "If only Mr. Wang would join S.H.I.E.L.D. It's a shame he has a huge prejudice against S.H.I.E.L.D. We S.H.I.E.L.D. do have sins, but we have always been protecting this world."

...

The world-famous Statue of Liberty is located on Ellis Island, offshore from Manhattan. That night, the Brotherhood Mutant knocked out the on-duty guards and gathered beneath the Statue, their eyes filled with excitement and anticipation.

At the torch of the Statue, Magneto and Mystique stood side by side, looking across at the brightly lit Manhattan.

"Tonight, Manhattan will be reborn."

Magneto smiled slightly, then turned to Mystique and asked, "Has Tony Stark arrived?"

"He's on his way."

Mystique said, "I impersonated Pepper and called him, telling him to meet me at the Statue of Liberty. Given his relationship with Pepper, he's sure to come.

Also, the real Pepper is in the car. I had someone tamper with it so Iron Man can't contact her."

Before Mystique finished speaking, a wild music sound came from a distance, followed by a steel figure flying at high speed from afar, spraying flames.

"Why would Pepper ask me to come here?"

Tony was a bit confused. At this moment, Jarvis suddenly reminded him, "Scanner detected Major Enemy Number Two on the Statue of Liberty. Please retreat immediately."

Major Enemy Number Two was Magneto. Tony was arrogant, but not stupid. He knew very well what would happen if he encountered Magneto. As for Major Enemy Number One, that was naturally the powerful and scene-stealing Ghost Rider.

Tony's expression changed, and he immediately prepared to stop. Just then, Magneto raised his hand, and the Iron Man Suit flew uncontrollably towards the Statue of Liberty.

Tony tried to control the Armor to fire missiles, but he couldn't open the launch ports at all. The entire Armor was enveloped by Magneto's magnetic force. In fact, let alone firing missiles, Tony couldn't even call for help.

Then, Magneto's right hand gently trembled, and the screws on the Armor rapidly spun. In a short while, the entire Armor disintegrated, floating neatly in the air, and Tony fell with a thud onto the platform.

Magneto said disdainfully, "This is the god they worship. Without his Armor, he's nothing."

As the saying goes, one can lose the battle but not the spirit. Tony sneered, "At least I won't be publicly beaten on the street like someone else."

Magneto's face darkened slightly. He waved his hand, and Tony crashed against the wall with a thud, letting out a cry of pain.

Tony gritted his teeth. He swore he would research a set of Anti-Magneto Armor. By then, he would learn from that kid and brutally beat Magneto on the street, as cruelly as possible.

Tony thought of something and hurriedly asked, "Where's Pepper? What have you done to Pepper?"

"Don't worry, she's not here."

Magneto said, "Do you know why I invited you here?"

Tony breathed a sigh of relief, then snorted coldly, "So this is what you call an invitation. I've truly learned something. Next time, I'll also 'invite' you to be my guest."

"I invited you here for two purposes: one is for the Iron Man Suit, and the other is to hang you on the Statue of Liberty for exhibition."

Magneto said, "I want the whole world to know that mortals cannot contend with gods. You are an outstanding mortal, perfectly suited for this role."

"Hang me on the Statue of Liberty?"

Tony was dumbfounded. He quickly said, "Magneto, let's talk this over. This is absolutely unacceptable."

Tony feared nothing but humiliation. If he were really hung on the Statue of Liberty for exhibition, he might as well never leave his house again.

"What right do you have to negotiate with me?"

Magneto smiled contemptuously, and with an aerial grasp, the Arc Reactor in Tony's chest flew out and landed in his hand.

Tony fell to the ground in pain. There were shrapnel fragments in his blood, and without the Arc Reactor, the shrapnel would quickly enter his heart and kill him.

As Magneto reassembled the Armor, he said to Tony, "Tony Stark, surrender control of the Armor, and I will spare your life."

Tony didn't want to die, so he chose to compromise, unlocking the Mark Armor to allow anyone to use it.

Magneto and Mystique naturally wouldn't trust Tony completely. Mystique connected a laptop to the Mark Armor, using the software inside to quickly modify the program—the software was designed by other hackers; the Brotherhood had plenty of talents.

"Done."

A moment later, Mystique nodded to Magneto. Magneto raised his finger, and the shrapnel fragments in Tony's blood flew out of his body with puffs of bloody mist.

Magneto said, "What you humans are completely helpless to do is merely a flick of my finger."

Tony lay on the ground, gasping for breath, and said, "Thank you for healing me. By the way, what's your account number? I'll transfer the money to you."

Magneto snorted coldly. The iron wires on the ground flew up and bound Tony. Then, the wires carried Tony to the top of the Statue of Liberty, hanging him on the edge of the crown.

Tony, filled with shame and anger, roared into the cold wind, "Magneto, I will never let you go!"
