Chapter 178 - Chapter 178 – Mega Evolution: Mega Charizard X!

Mega Charizard X— a dual-type Fire and Dragon Pokémon.

Mega Charizard Y, by contrast, retains the same dual typing as ordinary Charizard: Fire and Flying.

The Mega Stone of Charizard X contained an overwhelming surge of Dragon-type energy.

"Wuu-lii…"The Dratini curled around Yozora's neck like a small serpent. Upon seeing the Mega Stone of Charizard X, it immediately slithered toward it, rubbing its little head against the gem.

Clearly, this stone held an irresistible attraction for it.

"Old man, are you really giving this Mega Stone to me?" Yozora asked.

"Of course."Mr. Fuji waved his hand with a faint smile. "Otherwise, if it stayed with me, it would only gather dust…"

Yozora nodded, not bothering with further courtesy. He took the Mega Stone directly and placed it in Charizard's hand.

The fitting accessory could be crafted later— right now, it was time to test Mega Evolution itself.

"Come, Charizard! Mega Evolve!"Yozora focused his mental energy on the Key Stone, which instantly flared with dazzling brilliance.

Charizard roared. The Mega Stone in its hand radiated a blinding glow as a burst of blue flames erupted beneath its feet, engulfing its entire body.

At that moment, Yozora felt himself pulled deep into Charizard's heart. In front of him stood a tightly shut azure-blue door.

Without hesitation, Yozora grasped the handle and pulled.

Click…The door swung open, and a tidal wave of energy surged outward…

The reason Yozora could open Charizard's inner door so easily was simple— the two of them shared a deep bond, their hearts resonating as one.For an ordinary Trainer and their Pokémon, even with a Key Stone and Mega Stone, they could never force that door open— and thus, Mega Evolution would be impossible.

That bond, that perfect synchronization of spirit— this was the very foundation of Mega Evolution.

Without it, the Key Stone and Mega Stone were nothing more than ordinary stones.

A flash of blinding white consumed his vision. When Yozora's consciousness returned, he found his Charizard had taken on an entirely new form.

Mega Charizard X!

Its body was jet black, its belly an eerie shade of blue. A pair of deep-blue wings stretched wide, devilish and imposing. The transformed Charizard stood towering and fierce, exuding raw dominance.

It was as if it had descended from the pits of hell itself, wreathed in the flames of the underworld.

A dragon.

Charizard had truly become a Dragon, its aura rolling out like thunder.

Its snout had shortened compared to its former self, reducing its biting force— but the proud dragon no longer needed fangs to rend its foes.

From each side of its mouth sprouted a blazing tendril of flame, forming a pair of dragon whiskers that lent it a majestic, lordly presence.

And these whiskers were no ordinary flames— they burned with an otherworldly blue fire.

The flame at the tip of its tail, too, now burned the same blue… though, truth be told, Charizard's tail flame had already turned blue even before.

"Rooooar!"

A storm of violent energy burst forth as Charizard bellowed. The sound waves themselves became shockwaves, blasting outward in every direction, stirring the air into a howling tempest and clouds of smoke.

In that instant—Charizard's aura of authority was almost tangible, a presence too fearsome to gaze upon.

"Ugh…" Mr. Fuji raised an arm to shield himself from the oppressive winds. Even so, his clothes snapped and whipped furiously.

Beside him, Reina cried out in surprise, her long black hair and the hem of her dress blown wildly upward.

Pokémon: Mega Charizard X

Type: Fire + Dragon

Ability: Tough Claws + Tough Claws + Tough Claws + Water Absorb

Level: Elite Level, Mid-tier

Potential: Tier 3 Legendary

Description: After Mega Evolution, its dragon claws surpass those of ordinary Mega Charizard X, becoming far more powerful.

"Elite Level, mid-tier!"Yozora's heart skipped a beat as he scanned Charizard's status panel.

Before this, Charizard had only been at Lord-tier peak strength.

But after Mega Evolution— it had not only surpassed the Gym Leader level entirely, it had leapt straight into Elite level, and not just entry, but mid-tier!

Mega Evolution was terrifying— a leap across multiple tiers at once!

Of course, this was because earlier levels had relatively small gaps between them.

For Pokémon already at Elite Four or Champion level, Mega Evolution would never allow such massive jumps.

At that stage, a temporary boost of one or two sub-levels would already be the limit.

Another key difference—Ordinary evolution unlocked dormant potential.

But Mega Evolution? Mega Evolution transcended potential itself. It shattered limits.

For example: a Blastoise with Elite Four potential. After endless training and countless battles, it might one day reach Elite Four peak.

That would be the end of its natural potential— the peak of its lifetime.

But with Mega Evolution, it could temporarily exceed even that limit, forcibly stepping into Champion strength.

This was the true power and allure of Mega Evolution.

It was no wonder people called it one of the "ultimate forces."

Of course— Mega Evolution was only one of the four ultimate powers. Dynamax, Gigantamax, and Z-Moves stood beside it.

Which was strongest?

Z-Moves, in terms of single-strike power. Unfortunately, they could only be used once per battle.

In a full 6-on-6 match, only one Z-Move could be unleashed in total. And once used, no other ultimate powers could be activated.

Dynamax and Gigantamax came next. A Pokémon's size would swell, its vitality, strength, and defenses all soaring dramatically.

But the effect only lasted for three Dynamax moves. After that, the Pokémon would revert to its original state.

Mega Evolution, in contrast, was slightly weaker in raw burst— but excelled in endurance.

As long as the Pokémon had stamina, it could fight through an entire 6-on-6 match without reverting.

Each had its own pros and cons.

For Yozora personally, Mega Evolution was his favorite. Z-Moves, his least.

One move per match. Miss that one shot, and not only did it fail to make an impact, it drained the user tremendously.

Without absolute certainty, Z-Moves were simply not worth the gamble.

"Tough Claws?!" Yozora's eyes widened. "Triple Blaze actually transformed into triple Tough Claws!"

Charizard's base ability had always been Blaze.

Because of that, it could stack into Triple Blaze.

But after Mega Evolution, Charizard X's ability had changed to Tough Claws. As a result, all three Blaze abilities had converted into Tough Claws.

Yozora carefully studied Charizard's claws. Indeed, they were thicker, larger, sharper than any other Charizard's.

[Tough Claws]: Enhances the power of contact moves by 30%, and claw-based moves by 50%.
