Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: A Bond Beyond

Another month slipped by, and Sofia—now just Sophie to him—and Professor Miller, now David in her heart, grew ever closer, peeling back layers of each other's souls. She'd aced her thesis and walked away from university life, free from its walls at last. Their romance was no longer a closely guarded secret, though they hadn't exactly shouted it from the rooftops either. They didn't care to define it for others or worry about the world beyond their shared moments.

Sophie began to notice patterns in the visions that haunted their most intimate moments. It wasn't just about the physical act—it was the intensity of her emotions that summoned them. The more powerful the climax, or the more they cascaded one after another, the sharper and longer the visions became.

It was thrilling, if a little terrifying, adding a wild edge to their passion. David, ever the scholar and philosopher, took it in stride. "There's so much science hasn't cracked yet," he mused, a playful glint in his eyes. "We're explorers, my love, charting unexplainable realms. Who knows? Maybe we'll snag a Nobel Prize for this one day."

Sophie laughed, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, right. More like they'd lock me in a lab and poke at me like a science experiment. Let's keep this little secret to ourselves, okay?"

The visions were never the same. One moment, they'd be under a star-drenched mountain sky; the next, in a cozy ship's cabin on some grand ocean liner. Sometimes it was a rustic farmhouse, roosters crowing outside the window, or a surreal otherworld with violet skies and electric-blue grass.

"It's spooky, I won't lie," Sophie admitted one night, curled against him. "But… I'm kind of getting used to it. We're different, you and me. I'm starting to think these weird flashes are just… part of us."

David chuckled, brushing a kiss against her temple. "Sweetheart, when we're together, anything could happen."
