"You didn't have to do that," Adeline said as they walked away from the couple whose dagger-glazed glares she could feel on her back.
"Do what?" He asked innocently.
"Defend me like that. You didn't have to, I could have done it myself."
He stopped walking all of a sudden. "I know you could have, but you still didn't deserve to get treated like that. It was wrong." Then there was a pause before he continued. "I also want to apologize for last night. For accusing you of trying to seduce me after I came into the room unannounced and saw you—"
He stopped when he saw her ears turn red. He blinked at her but she tore her gaze away from him.
"It's fine." Even though she wasn't expecting him to apologize for what he'd said, what mattered was that he did apologize. "And thank you for standing up for me earlier."
With that, she took off.
