Chapter 85 - Extra: The Young Deer's Assassin's Fantasy (Part 2)

Simon stroked his chin, lost in thought as he stared at the robot vacuum.

Skerry patted his shoulder, "Are you alright? Did you really hit your head?" He muttered, "It seems your faith isn't strong enough. You didn't hurt your body, but you hurt your head."

He wasn't speaking Chinese, but Simon understood him perfectly, which confused him greatly.

Just then, the room door clicked open, and a short person in a pink assassin's outfit entered, a pale chin peeking out from under their hood.

Skerry's expression changed. "Retreat!" He grabbed Simon's wrist and ran towards the balcony.

"Why are we running?"

"The owner of this room is here!"

"This isn't our house!" Simon exclaimed.

The short person also cried out, "Hey!"

Skerry pushed open the balcony door, jumped onto the railing, and leaped. Simon leaned over to look, and a red blur turned around, falling backward into a pile of sycamore leaves.

A Leap of Faith.

Skerry emerged from the pile of leaves and waved at the balcony, "Come on!"

Simon heard urgent footsteps behind him and thought, "Oh no, the owner is coming to kill us!"

He jumped onto the railing and looked down. Three stories below, Skerry's large face looked like a small Macaque.

A Leap of Faith…

Believe that he wouldn't be hurt.

Footsteps drew closer.

Deep breath.

Get ready.

Jump…

The world stretched—

Colors were pulled into blurry lines, mixing into a gray cloth.

Air currents spun, swirled, and hummed in his ear canals, hitting his eardrums.

His arms spread like a pilgrim's cross, but his fingers trembled unconsciously…

Five meters.

Four meters.

Turn.

Three meters.

Last breath… hold it.

With his back to the fallen leaves, Simon felt like a fallen leaf himself.

Fallen leaves return to their roots, light as nothing.

Plunging into the leaf pile, the world fell into darkness.

Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, in delicate, painterly strands, yet very abstract, reminding him of the old house in summer, the dim reflections of colored glass on the dusty window frames.

An arm reached into the leaf pile, rummaged around, grabbed Simon's hood, and dragged him out of the leaves.

"Well done! That's what I call a Leap of Faith!" Skerry laughed loudly.

Simon was bewildered.

In the blink of an eye, Simon found himself on a high-tech commercial street. Under the thin, pale night of the city, there were crowds of people in strange outfits everywhere: some in armor, some with wrapped hair, some in draped cloth, some controlling mechs, some in bio-enhancements… Black-skinned, white-haired like Drow elves, riding donkeys backward like Afanti, carrying greatswords like Paladins…

It was extraordinarily lively, with buildings full of design and futuristic flair. Neon lights shone with dazzling, mesmerizing colors, and the ground was covered with a layer of liquid crystal material. Stepping on it would light up colorful footprints that spread in ripples, as if walking on water.

Navigating through the crowded throngs, a brisk, rhythmic music floated in the air, compelling people to quicken their steps unconsciously.

Along the roadside, virtual screens displayed all sorts of bizarre promotional videos. Besides food, clothing, housing, and entertainment, there were also those selling ideas, selling creativity, and the strangest category promoted conceptual products.

Simon saw many people gathered around a virtual screen, seemingly engrossed, so he squeezed into the crowd.

The large screen played a black and white film, with retro composition, color tones, and even frame rates. Even the background music was a jazz ditty.

The weather was clear, birds sang joyfully, and the lake shimmered.

Voice-over: "In such a beautiful time, don't you want to fly high, look down on the world, and let yourself wander in the wind? Listen to how free those birds sound! Don't you want to dance with them? Well, now's your chance! Welcome back your old friend, Gao Yifei, to present his latest masterpiece!" Multi-language subtitles made it look very professional.

The scene switched. A round-headed, middle-aged man strode in proudly, looking very pleased with himself. He had two long, blue-painted iron rods tucked under his armpits, like he was doing parallel bars, standing on a runway, his legs twitching, making him look like a restless spring.

Voice-over: "Gao Yifei Brand Double-Bar Flying Device! Held under the arms, bringing you an exquisite experience! No longer just a plane ticket away from the sky; buy it now, and go airborne instantly!"

The middle-aged man nodded slightly to the audience, turned his body, and showcased the two utterly unremarkable iron rods—a circus Macaque could probably do better.

Voice-over: "Activate." Then, the ends of the two rods lit up with eerie, plasticky lights. The next second, the rods, propped under the man's armpits, shot him into the sky.

The camera moved up. The man, in mid-air, frantically shook his legs, his whole body swaying. The black and white background suddenly changed, and the music became psychedelic electronic. The man, still clutching the rods, flew over a deep blue ocean, over Mount Everest, into space, shaking his legs on the blazing sun, continuing to fly, shaking his head at the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy, and finally, after a series of frantic convulsions, was sucked into a black hole and disappeared.

The music stopped abruptly, the screen turned black, and the voice-over said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the product demonstration ends here. But this story tells us that as long as you wish it, distance is not an issue for your creativity! Gao Yifei Brand Flying Device, come and get yours now! Call…"

The crowd cheered and applauded enthusiastically.

Simon was extremely puzzled as to why he had suddenly appeared here to see such a silly video.

Was that pile of leaves actually a teleportation point?

Skerry patted his shoulder from behind.

"Let's go, we'll buy some food to eat back at the dorm tonight."

"Assassins get dorms? Excellent." Simon pulled his hood lower, trying to blend in with the cool crowd.

There was some faint commotion in the crowd.

"Hey, why are you pushing!"

"You stepped on my foot!"

"Just because you're from Temple Corporation doesn't mean you can do whatever you want!"

Skerry's face panicked. He glanced around for a moment, then suddenly grabbed Simon and ran.

"Enemies?" Simon was alert.

"It's people from Temple Corporation. We were just in one of their offices; that short person must have called them."

Simon remembered the person in the pink assassin's outfit.

"Wasn't that person an assassin?"

Skerry spat, pushing past a burly man in armor in front of him, "That's a traitor!"

Simon was bewildered. Assassin traitor…

They quickly left the crowd, turning into an alley. Skerry was as frantic as a stray dog. Simon asked, confused, "Can't we just stealth?"

"We're the only ones on this street wearing assassin outfits; how could we possibly hide?"

"Is it really that realistic…?" Simon was speechless.

They passed through a wet pile of garbage, and a strange, pungent odor assailed his nose. Simon felt like he was about to suffocate the next second.

"They're still chasing us!" Skerry roared.

On the wall ahead, the moon rose, and a dark figure stood there.

The streetlights illuminated his luxurious white robe with golden patterns and the weathered contours of his face.

Simon touched his waist; there was a long sword. He drew it out, and it was surprisingly made of bronze, with ancient Chinese characters inscribed on it.

"River Divider"

Simon nodded in satisfaction. Cool!

"Come on, let's have a fight!" He waved at the person on the wall.

Skerry silently raised his hand and threw several throwing knives.

"Clang! Clang!" The person waved his hand, his metal gauntlets deflecting the throwing knives, as effortlessly as brushing away a maple leaf from a desk.

"I'm here, so you don't need to run anymore!"

The next second, Simon's vision blurred, and he felt someone's arm around his neck.
