Chapter 355 - Chapter 355: Pat Away

The yogurt was gone in no time.

Gabriel pouted, stuffed the empty bottle into Hayashi Maki's desk drawer—too lazy to toss it herself.

Hayashi Maki sighed, then ruffled her hair again.

"I still remember the first time we met—Gabriel was dazzling. Hard to believe you became this Gabriel."

"Hehe, this is the real me!" Gabriel grinned. "And I only turned out like this because of you! Didn't you say that instead of trying to make everyone happy, I should start by making myself happy?"

"So I'm making myself happy first—so I can better fulfill my mission to make everyone else happy!"

She said it with mock devotion, eyes sparkling up at him.

"By the way, the yogurt made me hungrier. You did that on purpose, didn't you? Got anything else to eat?"

"Sure… but…" Hayashi Maki chuckled and gave her a look.

Gabriel got it instantly. She grabbed his big hand and plopped it on her head with a whatever expression.

"Pat away."

Hayashi Maki didn't stand on ceremony—he handed her a pineapple bun and went right back to gently petting her head.

Around them, the others watched with envy. Gabriel might not be as radiant as she'd been when she transferred in, but nobody had forgotten her first-day glow. A beauty is a beauty—even laziness doesn't erase that special cuteness.

The pity was that aside from Shiina Mahiru and girls like Nibutani Shinka, Gabriel only really got along with Hayashi Maki. She ignored other boys' attempts to chat her up.

Gabriel munched happily, seemingly unfazed by the warm hand on her head. If you looked closely, though, her delicate cheeks were faintly pink. Teen girl, high schooler, an actual angel—she'd never dated, but she knew enough. Besides, it was the internet that had turned her into the slacker she was now.

She'd noticed that muddled, tender feeling toward Hayashi Maki—but she neither stopped it nor moved to keep it going. Let it happen. She'd already decided: when Hayashi Maki grew old and died, she'd convert him into an angel and take him to Heaven.

Though honestly, living on Earth would be better—Heaven didn't have the internet. Heaven still used landlines and brick phones—hopelessly outdated. No online games either. Super boring.

Watching Gabriel close her eyes and enjoy the head pats, Hayashi Maki felt a quiet pleasure. Her willingness to be close was a good sign. The name "Gabriel" was no small thing—it sounded like the archangel "Gabriel."

She held the trumpet of annihilation; if she judged humanity beyond saving, she could sound it and call down the angelic hosts to purge them. And her sister? Archangel Zelel, commander of Heaven's army—full-on celestial nobility.

Not just that—Gabriel also had the potential to fall, a talent only one in millions of angels possessed. The little angel's ceiling was sky-high. If she became his retainer, and her power combined with his magic seed, the result would be… surprising.

He fed Gabriel, patted her head one more time, and pulled his hand back—class time. Otherwise, he'd have kept going. Her hair looked messy but felt soft, and she did bathe daily—she just couldn't be bothered to comb it because of games.

After school, Gabriel brought Satania, Vignette, and Raphiel back to her place. Because of Gabriel's sloth, Vignette couldn't stand it; she came by regularly to check up and help clean.

As for Raphiel—she'd tagged along with Satania; seeing her smiling, Satania stayed on guard. That scheming angel always seemed to have plans—usually at Satania's expense.

Under Vignette's supervision, Gabriel finally finished tidying up. She immediately stripped out of her uniform, booted the PC, and dove into a grind.

"Hehe, Vigne~, Raphi~, thanks for the help today. Drinks are in the fridge—help yourselves. I'm going to farm loot!"

"Haha! Satania the Great is going to drink all your soda!"

"No way. If Satania wants a drink, she has to pay!" Gabriel declared solemnly.

"Huh? Why? Favoritism!" Satania raged.

Vignette could only sigh.

"Besides gaming, is there anything else you can do? How about we go shopping sometime?"

Gabriel puffed her cheeks and shook her head. "Don't wanna. I'm broke." Shopping when you can only look, not buy—what's the point?

Raphiel watched Gabriel playing away and smiled wryly. "Gab-chan, word is someone's coming down Monday to review our mission progress. I'm fine. But you… it'll probably be your sister."

Clack. Gabriel's gamepad hit the floor. She turned stiffly. "Raphi—seriously? You're joking, right?"

"Afraid not," Raphiel said, spreading her hands with a sympathetic look. "If the archangel sees you like this, you'll be recalled and put through reeducation."

Gabriel felt the sky falling. She paced and wrung her hands, trying to think of a plan.

Seeing her panic, Satania asked, puzzled, "Who are you even talking about? And do you really need to be this scared?"

"Of course I'm scared! She's my sister—Archangel Zelel, enforcer of Heaven's laws, the Angel of Judgment! If she finds out I'm slacking off and ignoring my mission to make people happy, she'll drag me back and lock me up for reconditioning!"

"The worst part is—if I go to Heaven I won't be able to casually game anymore! That's worse than death!"

Hearing that, Vignette and Satania both swallowed hard. Enforcer of the heavenly rules; Angel of Judgment—yeah, that sounded terrifying. Who'd have guessed Gabriel had a big sister that formidable?

Hmm this Story Becoming Confusing I thought Zelel already Descended? Or is It on the CG? Anyway, we ball!
