Chapter 2 - Rise From The Dead

In the grayish-blue sky, the sun had sunk into the horizon. A faint red light vaguely flickered at the end of the mountains and rivers, gradually dimming.

Under this light, the corpses of many Demon Beasts were scattered. Some were beheaded, some had their stomachs ripped open. Colorful stinky organs mixed with filthy blood soaked the entire earth.

And in the center, there was the body of a young man whose heart had stopped beating. His facial features could be considered handsome, but his entire body was covered in blood and wounds so deep that bones could be seen. On his stiff face, there was a trace of a regretful smile. The blood-stained axe fell beside his hand.

"Thump."

Suddenly, a burst of blue light shone from the young man's chest. Accompanying it was the sound of a heavy heartbeat.

"Huala."

The surrounding viscous blood seemed to be summoned by something, and began to slowly flow and circulate.

"Thump!"

Another burst of blue light flickered, and an even clearer and heavier heartbeat sounded. And the blood of these Demon Beasts seemed to have heard some kind of order, and began to slowly flow towards his body.

Like soldiers summoned by an emperor, the blood of various Demon Beasts, black, purple, red, and all kinds of Demon Beasts, carrying the essence of life that had yet to disappear, surged towards the already stiff body, gradually covering it. And as the blue light flickered, it also gradually made the heartbeat return to normal.

The tiny wounds gradually closed under the soaking of the blood. Even the serious wounds that were so deep that bones could be seen began to heal. The dim blood that had solidified into a colloid turned back into blood plasma under an inexplicable power, overflowing with the vitality of life.

Under the nourishment of the vitality, along with a light cough, the breath that had originally disappeared reappeared, becoming faintly discernible. And then, with the passage of time, it became more and more normal and strong.

The blue light continued to flicker in the center of his chest. Between the light and the dark, it was a breath, a heartbeat, and a pulse.

The stiff hand became rosy, and then clenched into a fist.

Feeling the sweet blood around him, his hands touched and grasped the wet and cold soil, the young man who had come back from the dead woke up from the nightmare known as eternal sleep.

"Why am I here?"

His slightly confused eyes turned, as if he was recalling something. He muttered in a low voice, "Wasn't I hit by a car just now? Why am I still alive?"

Sensing the strong smell of blood around him, his expression changed. He frowned and looked around — the gray sky, the dim light, the smell of blood filled his mouth and nose, and the stinky corpses of the Demon Beasts were piled up around him.

"What's going on?

These things … "

But before he could finish his sentence, he held his forehead in pain as a wave of intense pain and swelling came from his brain.

"I am Gao Chuan, no… I am… who am I?"

The nameless youth and Gao Chuan's memories were intertwined at this moment, and they were inseparable.

The broken and rusty axe blade cut through the tough and blood-stained fur, using all its strength to cut open the somewhat sluggish body of the huge beast in front of him. Strong blood spurted out from the taut wound, and the warm liquid soaked the wounds all over the youth's body.

Hearing the somewhat dispirited but still full of confidence roar of the huge mountain bear, the exhausted youth stuck out his tongue and licked the blood on the side of his mouth, not knowing if it was his own or the monster's, and swallowed it into his stomach.

It was not enough. It had not suffered any serious injuries.

Just as this thought arose, a feeling of exhaustion and hunger spread from his stomach to his entire body. His sore limbs almost could not support his body, and his entire person was only relying on his imposing manner and willpower to support himself in this posture.

After fighting for several hours, his physical strength and spirit were exhausted.

Just walking home, he encountered a fire in the village, and numerous wild beasts and monsters suddenly came to attack. This kind of inexplicable disaster and the strong threat of death made him frightened and angry, but he was completely unable to resist. He could only do his best to fight.

Rolling his dry eyes, the smell of blood pervaded his throat. Looking straight at the mountain bear's angry and bloodshot eyes, the youth knew that relying on his tired body, it was impossible for him to avoid the huge beast's next attack. A frantic desire to survive reverberated in his heart. He tried to use his trembling hand to grasp the axe, using it as a final struggle.

"Ah!!!"

He only felt a gust of fishy wind sweep past, and the smell made him secretly want to vomit. He roared angrily, rousing his spirit, and then with a low body roll, he dodged the mountain bear's all-out attack. The axe in his hand chopped down, opening up another wound.

When he got up, the mud and dust stuck to the blood on his body. The sticky blood covered his entire body, making him look incomparably miserable.

"Aooo!!!"

Before he had time to be happy, he heard this low and deep roar. He saw the huge beast's eyes shoot out a green-red light. Ignoring the wound that was still spurting blood, it turned around and slapped with its paw.

"F * ck!!!"

Cursing in a low voice, the young man who was covered in cuts and bruises did not have the slightest strength to fight back. He could only watch helplessly as the giant bear fiercely hit his shoulder. Before he could even feel the pain, he directly crashed into the giant tree.

While countless leaves fell from the tree, the bones all over his body also felt like they were about to break. His internal organs constantly wailed, and a trace of blood uncontrollably flowed out from the corner of his mouth.

How many slashes did he need to make to kill this monster?!

His eyes were blurry, his will was chaotic, and his mind was not clear. He was on the verge of death.

In this kind of situation, his heart was empty. Obviously, he had never had this kind of thought before, but now, in this mountain wilderness, his heart was full of unwillingness and indignation as he thought about this question.

Because, he was about to die.

Glancing at the corner of his eyes, he saw the roots of the old trees that were beginning to turn red. He saw the scattered, withered, and yellowed grass. He saw the whole world that was slowly blurring and gradually turning bright red —

His eyes began to fill with blood and became turbid. Clenching his teeth, he did not relax even if he was about to break. Forcefully holding his breath and using his strong desire to live as support, he struggled to lift his body that was about to fall apart. The young man angrily glared at the giant bear in front of him. Something seemed to be stirring and bursting in his chest like a raging flame.

At this moment, there was not a trace of the shock and confusion that he had when he first met the monster. There was also no fear and nervousness when he fought with it. Right now, he was not thinking about anything. Like bursting magma, anger flowed through all of his thoughts.

Tightly grasping the wet axe that was covered in blood, he straightened his posture, agitated his alveoli that were about to collapse, and began to take what might be his last breath in this world.

A burst of blue light flashed in the center of his chest. Suddenly, the young man felt an inexplicable power flowing from the center of his chest to the rest of his body. The pain was completely eliminated in an instant.

His turbid eyes also became clear again, leaving only a trace of bright red within, as if magma was flowing through it. Suddenly opening his eyes, he looked at the giant bear in front of him that was exhausted and bleeding incessantly. The bear was laughing, but also seemed to be roaring to answer his previous question.

"How many times do I have to chop to kill you?!"

"Just this one chop!!!"

Dodging the giant bear's surprise attack that was far less swift than it was at the beginning, and seizing an opening, he didn't have the slightest confusion in his heart — boiling anger and ferocious killing intent, he held the handle with both hands, raised the axe in his hand, and then poured all of his spirit into it, and violently swung it down!

Like a flying star, the swift and fierce axe light broke open the skin and flesh that had long been cut into tatters, and along the cracks in the bones, the ferocious demon beast's head was chopped off just like that, its huge body slowly tilted, and then collapsed on the ground.

At the same time, the axe that was full of blood and chipped gradually slipped from his hand. Feeling the mournful cry of his body, the young man's consciousness became chaotic, the violent fire in his heart gradually extinguished, and endless pain once again returned to his body.

"It's over."

He said softly.

Is this death?

Am I going to die here today?

Staggering back a few steps, he leaned against a tree, bathed in the blood that was wildly spurting out from the giant bear's neck, and breathed in the blood that was full of vitality. He suddenly wanted to laugh, to laugh out loud.

With the body of a human, he killed many monsters and won the battle. Why couldn't he laugh at this?

So he laughed loudly until he couldn't laugh anymore.

Showing a satisfied and regretful expression, the tired youth smiled and closed his eyes. Then, his breathing gradually stopped and his heart stopped beating.

This seemed to be the end of his life.

But this wasn't the case.

Immersed in the youth's deepest memories before his death, Gao Chuan finally understood what was going on with the surrounding scene.

That was the result of an unwilling youth's final anger and resistance.

After sorting out the youth's memories, although he didn't understand how his body could miraculously come back to life, Gao Chuan, as a transmigrator, had indeed picked up a bargain.

Speaking of this, there was still a trace of anger stirring in his heart.

"What's going on, where did these monsters come from?!"

He immersed his spirit in the youth's memories, trying to find the reason.

… …

Just like in the past, the youth returned from hunting, but on the way back, he was shocked to find that his village was on fire. In a hurry, he wanted to investigate, but he was inexplicably besieged by a large group of monsters — after that, it was the desperate fight that he saw in his memories.

The youth was seriously injured, and then with the help of a sudden burst of mysterious power, he perished together with the last monster, a giant bear.

This mysterious power came from his chest. Recalling this, Gao Chuan lifted up his clothes that were already soaked in blood and full of blood scabs. He saw a crystal that flickered with a faint blue light embedded in his chest. It was sparkling and translucent, just like the nebula in the documentaries of his previous life. There were bits of silver light in it, brilliant and gorgeous.

"This position, shape, and color … no matter how I look at it, it feels like Ultraman's color timer …" He muttered in a low voice.

This crystal was very mysterious. According to his memories, its origin was also quite strange.

When the youth was very young, his parents both disappeared in the depths of the mountains, suspected to have died in the mouths of monsters. Everyone in the village gathered together and decided that each family would give him a meal, allowing this fatherless and motherless orphan to smoothly grow up.

This simple kindness and kindness was always engraved in the youth's heart and never forgotten. So when he saw the fire in the village, he was so angry that he almost went crazy.

When he was ten years old, he didn't know what strange spirit herb he ate in the mountains, but he was unconscious for three days and three nights. When he woke up again, his mouth was full of the fragrance of plants, and there was a strange translucent white crystal in the center of his chest. He didn't know what it was for, but he couldn't pull it out. It felt cold to the touch, and occasionally it would flash of red.

However, since then, the young man's strength had become stronger and stronger. In the beginning, his arms would ache when he chopped a few pieces of firewood, and he would be covered in sweat. Now, he could easily chop a huge tree with an ax. The changes were incredible. At the same time, his appetite was getting bigger and bigger. In the beginning, he could barely fill his stomach with a palm-sized bowl of coarse rice and some wild vegetables. Recently, he couldn't eat meat. He could eat a deer and a pot of fish soup for a meal.

As he ate a lot, the crystal gradually changed from flashing red to being red all the time. Some time ago, it turned purple. According to this trend, it would probably turn blue in the future. Compared with the crystal that was almost transparent at the beginning, now the crystal was full of treasure and light, and it looked extremely brilliant and beautiful.

With the change of color, the young man's strength became stronger and stronger. Even if he wrestled with a giant bear, he wouldn't be at a disadvantage.

In order to find prey for his body, the young man would go deep into the mountains to hunt and chop firewood every day. He even lived in the mountains for a few days.

He had a dream. He was going to wait until his body was fully grown, the crystal had completely turned blue, and his strength had become stronger. Then, he would try to walk out of the mountains and enter the outside world.

After all, this was a world filled with demons and monsters.

If he didn't exercise his body to the extreme and rashly went out, he might disappear completely in the depths of the mountains like his parents.

But for some unknown reason, the number of wild beasts had decreased recently. He could not even encounter a large prey for a few days. With the youth's appetite, it would not take long for him to starve to death, let alone train and grow up.

Even according to the number of animals he hunted in the winter in the past, this was too little. He didn't know how to solve this problem, so he could only think about it when the time came.

"Ow!!!"

A loud roar suddenly came from the village, and the light of the fire that lit up the hillside paused.

His memory was interrupted, and Gao Chuan suddenly showed a shocked expression. The muscles all over his body were agitated, and his forehead and back were full of cold sweat!

Just a moment ago, a terrifying will that was almost tangible swept across the entire hillside like a tide. The hair-raising chill stimulated his skull and spine, and the piercing pain caused his body to tremble incessantly as if he was being pricked by needles.

But suddenly, Gao Chuan's eyes narrowed as he looked into the distance — three light spots appeared on the horizon, dragging along light ribbons as they whizzed over from afar like falling meteors. As the light ribbons spread, the sky suddenly became much clearer, as if it had been obscured by something before.

Accompanied by this vision, a dazzling light suddenly rose from the light spots in the sky, and then fell from the sky at a speed that no one could react to, and whistled toward the village.

At this time, above the clouds, a majestic and angry voice came from the light spots quickly.

"Demon, take my sword!"
