Lucas's POV:
The city lights blur past my window as I drive in silence. The wind slips in through the half-open window, brushing my hair.
Finally… I'm free.
Free from Alexander — that bastard who thought he owned me.
All of it was only possible because of him.
Mr. Dane.
If he hadn't reached out his hand, I'd still be trapped in that golden cage.
My phone buzzes. The screen lights up.
Dr. Jim.
I press accept.
"Hello, Dr. Jim."
"Where are you?" His voice is calm, low, like always.
"On my way."
"What do you want for dinner?"
A small smile tugs at my lips. "Anything's fine. All your dishes are delicious."
He exhales, the sound soft against the speaker. "Alright," he says, and the line goes dead.
For a moment, I just sit there listening to the silence.
Dr. Jim really feels like a blessing in my life. Whenever he's home, the house feels warm… alive. Maybe I'm getting addicted to that warmth.
Warm...
It's strange… how warmth can be addictive.
