Windsor's POV

The lake water had lost its bitter chill. I moved through it as if the very element that once terrified me had become my ally. The realization struck me only when Zion's quiet laughter drifted across the surface.

"What is it?" I turned toward him, water streaming from my hair.

"Look at yourself."

"What do you mean?"

"You're swimming."

My movements stilled. The rhythmic strokes had become so instinctive that I hadn't noticed them. I had glided through the water without clinging to him in panic, without my lungs seizing in terror. The paralyzing fear that once owned me had retreated, overwhelmed by something far more powerful. By the man watching me with those intense eyes.

I turned and drifted back toward him. Moonlight carved sharp lines across his features, creating valleys of shadow along his cheekbones while silver light traced the water droplets sliding down his strong jaw.
