Chapter 4 - THE JOURNEY

It took Zamiel two minutes to transform and they traveled for two hours while Zamiel's heart was weakening. When they finally arrived at depth of the water where everyone was waiting for them. When their eyes fell on Zamiel it widened in horror and shock.

He was laid on the soft sand on floor and he barely utter anything as he was in extreme pain. Without waiting for anyone to ask Sapphire recounted everything that happened to everyone.

Zamiel's lips moved and sapphire knelt beside him to hear what he wanted to say.

"I'm sorry". He whispered.

The water creatures didn't need to open their mouth to communicate with each other as they do that with their mind and eyes.

"I'll come back". He said.

"How?". Sapphire asked before it dawned on her that he would die and come back but not as a water creature anymore either as a human or as someone else.

"Will you look for me?".

"Yes, I will". Sapphire assured him and his lips threatened to smile.

His breathing slowed before it finally stopped.

By the time Sylvia Zamiel's mother arrived her son was already long gone.

She started juddering causing the ocean to make waves and Simon tried to calm her down.

Simon walked up to Calhoun and said; "Because of the bond we've shared, I won't fight you but our journey as family ends here". And departed with his people leaving Zamiel in Calhoun's hands.

Calhoun ordered his servants to carry Zamiel's body to the sepulchral.

It took them two days to arrive at the sepulchral.

All rites were performed accordingly and Zamiel's body was placed on the sepulchre.

Sapphire didn't know what to do as she saw everybody's tear stricken face because ever since she was birthed she had never shed a tear not that she had a reason to.

After spending some time beside Zamiel's body they all departed. The sepulchre opened to swallow Zamiel's body.

Two days later Calhoun called his daughter to ask her about her plan.

"I'll be going to live among humans till I can find Zamiel". She said.

"Even if it costs you years?" He asked raising both eyebrows.

"Yes". Sapphire said firmly.

"But you just started mastering your ability. Will you be alright? Or do you want me to come with you?" He asked his voice filled with concern.

"Father I'll be fine. I don't need anyone. It'll bring unwanted and unnecessary attention." She dismissed the idea and her father sighed.

The next day Sapphire had already been accompanied to the river bank.

"I'll miss you". Sophia her mother said and tears threatened to spill out of her eyes.

Three days ago when the fishermen had been massacred. The sirens did dirty to their body by eating them dreadfully and in an ungodly way.

When the inhabitants and other fishermen came looking for them as it has been ours since they left and hadn't returned. Their jaw dropped and eyes widened when they got there because of the gory scene in front of them.

Sapphire walked farther away from the river bank and her dark blue eyes searched for something. Clothe. Her eyes fell on the palm three ten feets away and she walked towards it. There was a piece of tattered clothing hanging on it, she took it, wore it and started walking.

She walked into a small village. The village where the fishermen resided. The people kept turning to look at her as they wondered which parent would carelessly and mindlessly let their daughter roam around half dress and naked no matter how poor they are.

Sapphire was well aware of the attention she was drawing but she didn't care nor did she make eye contact with anyone. Her steps were slow and steady. Her feets were bare. Sapphire was looking for a place to stay. She walked hundreds of miles passing every little villages, alleys, valleys and forests until she entered a market in a town called Hill town. It was a place where the rich folks and the king shopped and often visit.

When she stepped into the market all eyes turned to look at her some in wonderment, some in disgust. She continued walking, her eyes scanning the market. She halted when she got to a clothing store named Neymar. She made her way inside. Hey eyes trailing and studying the exterior and interior of the store, the gaments and the prestigious people there. Her presence commanded attention.

"Who let this filthy thing in here." A woman voiced out and it caught the store owner's attention.

"Who are you?, What is name?, Who are your parents?, And how dare stain my floor with your dirty feets?" He started raining questions and he looked at her in disgust.

When Sapphire's eyes fell on the man, she gauged him from head to toe and walked towards one of the plush couches and sat down like she other women.

"What audacity?, How dare you sit on that chair?". The woman who had earlier criticized her spoke again.

"Lady Rose, don't worry about her, I'll take care of her right now." Henry the store owner quickly appeased the angered woman.

Henry trying to be nice sat on his heels before Sapphire and tried cajoling her.

"Little girl, Who are you and what do you want?". But Sapphire only stared at him and the man was already getting frustrated and if not for her captivating beauty, he would have thrown her out. Sapphire moved closer to the man and he wondered whether she was glaring because Sapphire way of looking at people was always between glaring and staring.

She placed a pouch on his hand and Henry wondered what was in it. When he opened it his almost fell out in shock as he hadn't seen this in years. Pearls. The only people who possessed pearls, pebbles and coins where the richs and he wondered if he had stolen them.

Pearls were gotten from a mermaid's tears and they vary, there are high quality ones and low quality ones and the ones Sapphire gave Henry was of high quality.

"Do you want to buy clothes and get some stitched for you?" He whispered and she nodded.

He took her to another room where they would be away from the prying eyes of the vampiresses and she wolves.

"Where is he taking her to". A woman who had accompanied lady rose asked suspiciously.

"I don't know, I don't care. As long as she's out of sight. Maybe probably to get rid of her." Lady Rose shrugged as it wasn't her business.

"Bring out latest, finest and newest dresses of her sizes." He ordered and his assistants swung into action. A row of clothes was lined up in front of Sapphire for her to choose.

The reason why Sapphire had pearls in her possession was because of her father. Calhoun had vast experience and knowledge about each and every creature on earth and had taught Sapphire the language humans speak and when Sapphire decided to step on land, he had prepared everything she was going to need and it could last a life time.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting miss." Henry apologized afraid of offending any elite family especially vampires.

"so this is what humans wear". She thought and her eyes fell on a verdant dress and she walked closer to it, touching it she turned her gaze to Henry.

"You want that one?" He asked and she nodded.

The verdant dress was taken out the hanger and handed to her.

They left the room for her to change.
