Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: The Mysterious Egg

"Ha?!"

After Levy patiently explained Celestial Spirit Magic, Mirajane widened her eyes and stared at the completely self-confident Moen.

"Then Moen, what kind of magic are you actually using?"

Mirajane asked in pure curiosity. As someone who had just stepped into the world of magic, she was full of desire to learn. She had awakened magic, accepted the power of a demon, and brought her younger siblings into the world of Wizards—naturally she wanted to understand this world better.

Going out on jobs meant facing all kinds of dangers. Knowing more about magic was extremely important.

Mirajane already knew even Moen had encountered an attack from a Dark Guild while doing a job. That alone showed how brazen Dark Guilds were!

Of course, she also learned that this Dark Guild had already been wiped out by Fairy Tail, which made her even more certain that Fairy Tail was a good guild. When she decided to leave her siblings here, it definitely wasn't a random decision.

"Celestial Spirit Magic!"

Moen answered with firm conviction. As long as he believed he was using "Celestial Spirit Magic," then that was the most authentic Celestial Spirit Magic!

"Boo—"

The kids booed him. None of them were magic newbies anymore. Even if they didn't know the truth at first, they later asked around or looked things up, and the other guild members had already told them. They could not be fooled so easily anymore.

"As long as I become strong enough, then why can't I redefine what Celestial Spirit Magic is called?"

Facing the boos, Moen still spoke with absolute confidence.

His idea was undeniably ambitious. He was trying to challenge a system that had existed for who-knows-how-many years. The right to rename something like that was not easily taken.

"…"

This time, everyone went silent.

"That's great! I support you, Moen."

Mirajane spoke first, looking as if she fully believed Moen could accomplish it.

"Mhm mhm! Go for it, Moen-nii! You can definitely do it!"

Lisanna nodded hard, her little face full of admiration and approval.

"Do your best, Moen-nii!"

Elfman clenched his fist. The older sister, younger sister, and younger brother were surprisingly united but it also showed just how little they understood Celestial Spirit Magic. They were genuine magic beginners.

Erza, Cana, and Levy, on the other hand, were staring at Moen in shock. Clearly, none of them expected him to have this kind of ambition. They knew how difficult this idea was—almost impossible.

"But… if it's Moen…"

Even though she thought it was nearly impossible, Erza couldn't help but think that, seeing Moen and his confident expression. Maybe… maybe he could really do it?

"Moen-nii! Everyone! Come look!"

Just as everyone was still stunned by Moen's words, a loud commotion snapped them back. It was Natsu's voice.

Natsu burst out of the forest loudly, and in his hands he was triumphantly holding up an "egg."

"Natsu, what did you steal this time? Another monster egg?"

Seeing Natsu's proud expression, Moen laughed and asked.

"This egg is really big. It looks delicious."

Moen commented seriously. The egg Natsu was holding was half as tall as Natsu himself—definitely an egg from some powerful magical beast.

Based on Moen's many years of egg-collecting experience, the eggs of stronger beasts—especially the larger ones—always tasted better.

"No! You can't eat it, Moen-nii!"

But upon hearing Moen's comment, Natsu screamed in terror, looking at him as if reminded of some traumatic memory.

Last time, for Moen's birthday, Natsu gave him a magical bird egg—only for Moen to roast it and eat it directly!

Natsu still clearly remembered the taste of that egg.

No—what he remembered was that the little bird inside would have hatched soon. Wouldn't eating its meat after it grew up taste even better than eating the egg?!

'Peh! What am I thinking?!'

Natsu hugged the egg tightly, shaking off those messy thoughts.

Anyway, what he wanted to say was:

"This egg is different."

"It's huge! What if it's a dragon egg?!"

Natsu placed the egg on the ground, asking the others excitedly.

And the moment he said that, everyone understood instantly why Natsu treated this egg differently.

Back when they roasted that other egg, Natsu had shouted "tastes amazing!" louder than anyone. He had never cared about eating eggs he dug up.

This time, he was only excited because he thought this egg was related to a dragon. And the word "dragon" was Natsu's switch. It had already been almost a year since he joined the guild, and he had spent the whole year frantically searching for dragons—with no clues at all.

So now that he found something that might be a dragon egg, of course he would treasure it.

And more importantly, this "dragon egg" suddenly appeared out of nowhere—falling straight from the sky and hitting Natsu on the head. It wasn't taken from any monster nest. They truly had no idea what was inside.

"Why do you think it's a dragon egg?"

Moen understood why Natsu didn't want to eat it, but still couldn't understand how Natsu concluded it was a "dragon egg." There had to be a reason.

"It's huge!"

That was Natsu's first reason. He gestured at its size.

"Not reasonable."

Saying "it's big, so it must be a dragon egg" obviously didn't convince anyone.

"Look at the patterns! Doesn't it look like dragon flames?!"

Seeing no one believed him, Natsu became anxious and pointed to the blue markings on the white shell.

"Mhm, those are flame patterns."

Moen moved closer and looked carefully. Indeed, there was a fairly clear flame design.

"It's very likely an egg from some fire-using magical beast."

After observing, Levy gave a guess. She had read a lot of magical beast encyclopedias, including characteristics of eggs and young, but she did not recognize this egg either. She could only speculate.

"Igneel uses fire magic! This might be the egg Igneel laid!"

Natsu shouted immediately with absolute certainty.

"Wait, Natsu—Igneel is your father, right? He's a male dragon. How could he possibly lay an egg?"

Moen covered his forehead helplessly. Natsu's thought process was truly incomprehensible.

Igneel laying an egg—really now.
