The next morning…Amara woke up feeling... Wonderful. Not just good. Not just well-rested.
No.
It felt like every single cell in her body had collectively decided to wake up and choose happiness.
She blinked slowly, still half buried beneath her ridiculously fluffy comforter.
Only the top half of her body was visible while the rest remained cocooned inside the warm blankets."...Mmm."
She wasn't moving. Absolutely not.
Outside her attic window, Forks looked exactly like...
Well...
Forks.
Dark clouds stretched across the sky.
A gentle drizzle painted tiny droplets against the glass.
The wind swayed the pine trees lazily, carrying that familiar earthy scent only rainy mornings seemed to have.
It looked cold.
Very cold.
Amara looked outside...Then looked back at her blanket. The blanket won.
She immediately pulled it all the way up to her chin before snuggling deeper into it like a sleepy caterpillar. "Nope..."
"I'm staying here forever." She adjusted the pillow beneath her head with a content sigh.
Warm bed. Soft blanket.Cold weather outside. This...This was happiness.
Then...Her thoughts betrayed her.Yesterday. Lucien. The proposal.
"..."
A tiny smile appeared.
Then another. Then somehow...
She was smiling so much her cheeks started hurting. "My boyfriend... I have a boyfriend"
She whispered the words experimentally.
"My..."
"Boyfriend."
The smile instantly doubled. Heat slowly climbed up her face. She buried half her face into the blanket. "Oh God..."
"I'm actually blushing."She kicked her feet beneath the blanket in silent embarrassment.
Why was remembering it making her this happy?
She could still picture Lucien's serious expression...
The way he'd looked at her like she was the most important person in his entire world.
His promise.
His gentle forehead kiss.
"..."
Amara buried her face even deeper into the pillow. "I'm never recovering from this."
She looked exactly like someone experiencing emotional system failure.
Then...
Something strange caught her attention.
"Hm?"
Tiny...Soft...
Green lights floated lazily through her bedroom.
Almost like glowing dust. Except...
Dust usually didn't drift around as if it had somewhere important to be.
Amara frowned. "...What?" She blinked several times.
The tiny green particles remained exactly where they were.
Some floated near the window. Others drifted around her bed. A few lazily circled her hand. They were beautiful. Almost transparent.
If she didn't focus carefully...They became nearly invisible.
She slowly sat upright. "...Am I still dreaming?"
One tiny particle floated past her nose.
She stared.
Then...
Without really thinking...She imagined it moving closer.
The tiny green light immediately obeyed.
"..."
"...Wait."
Her eyes widened.
She tried again. The little particle floated left. Then right. Then upward.
Then spun happily in tiny circles.
"..."
"...WAIT."
Amara sat bolt upright. "I'M CONTROLLING THEM!"
She nearly fell off the bed in excitement. "This is so cool!"
Hundreds of tiny green particles suddenly gathered around her like curious little fireflies.
She giggled.
"Hello..."
One landed on her fingertip.
She poked it.
Her finger passed straight through.
"...No touching."
She pouted."What are you?"
The tiny lights continued floating around innocently.
"Can you explode?"
Nothing happened.
"Can you talk?"
Still nothing.
"Can you make breakfast?"
Silence.
"...Worth asking." She spent another few minutes experimenting.
Go left.
Go right.
Spin.
Circle.
Line up.
Make a tiny heart.
The particles obediently followed every thought.
"...Best floating green things ever."
Just as she reached out toward another one—
BANG!
Her bedroom door flew open dramatically.
Bella marched inside like she owned the room."MORNING!"
Amara jumped so hard she almost swallowed her own tongue.
"JESUS!"
She clutched her chest.
"Do you knock?"
Bella ignored the question completely.
Instead...
She walked straight toward the bed. Climbed onto it. Stole half the blanket. Then shamelessly snuggled beside Amara.
"..."
"...Bella."
Bella sighed happily. "Your bed is so comfortable."
"I know."
"So I'm borrowing it."
"You mean stealing it."
"Temporary borrowing."
Amara stared at her. "...Why are you even here?"
Bella answered without opening her eyes. "I came to wake you up."
Amara slowly pointed at herself."...As you can clearly see."
"I'm awake."
Bella cracked one eye open."Oh...Mission accomplished."
"Now leave."
"No."
Amara sighed dramatically. "You are unbelievable."
Bella pulled even more of the blanket toward herself. "Mmm...So warm."
Amara looked horrified. "You're stealing my blanket!"
"Our blanket."
"There is no 'our'!"
"There is now."
Amara looked ready to file legal paperwork.
Then...
She remembered the green particles. "Oh! Bella."
Bella hummed sleepily. "Hm?"
"Can you see those?"
Bella looked around lazily. "See what?"
"The little green glowing things."
Bella sat up."...What green glowing things?"
"The ones floating literally everywhere."
Bella frowned. She looked toward the ceiling. Toward the window. Toward the bed.
Then narrowed her eyes dramatically. She even leaned forward.Squinted.Tilted her head.Looked upside down.Closed one eye.Opened the other.
Concentrated so hard she looked like she was trying to solve world hunger.
Five full seconds passed.
Ten.
Fifteen.
Finally...
Bella slowly turned back toward Amara. Placed a hand on Amara's forehead.
"..."
"Are you sick?"
Amara immediately pulled away.
"I'm not sick!"
Bella looked genuinely concerned.
"I don't see anything."
"Nothing?"
"Absolutely nothing."
Amara blinked. That was strange. Very strange.
While Bella was still looking around the room...
Amara absentmindedly thought about moving one tiny green particle toward her.
The little light obediently floated over...
Then disappeared into Bella.
"..."
Amara blinked.
"...Huh?"
Another one followed.Then another.
Bella suddenly froze.
"..."
"Huh."
Amara watched carefully.
Bella stretched her shoulders.
"...Weird."
"What?"
"I suddenly don't feel tired anymore."
She blinked twice."I actually feel.....Really refreshed."
Bella looked confused.
"I swear I was sleepy like five seconds ago."
Amara stared at the last green particle disappearing into Bella.
...
Healing?
Seriously?
The green things...Were healing her?
Bella couldn't even see them. But she definitely felt the effects.
Amara looked at her own hands.
"...Interesting."Very...Very interesting.
Bella, completely unaware of the tiny miracle she'd just experienced, grinned mischievously."...Or..."
She smirked."Maybe someone caught..."
She wiggled her eyebrows."...The Lucien Disease."
Amara blinked.
"The what?"
Bella gasped dramatically.
"The symptoms include smiling at absolutely nothing."
"Random blushing."
"Staring into space."
"And saying 'his name ' every five minutes."
Amara's face instantly turned bright red.
"I do not!"
Bella pointed triumphantly.
"See!You're blushing again!"
"I am not!"
"You totally are!"
"I'M NOT!"
Bella burst into laughter.
"Oh my God.It's adorable."
Amara grabbed the nearest pillow.
"Bella..."
Bella immediately recognized the look.
"...Uh-oh."
THWACK!
The pillow hit Bella square in the face.
Bella shrieked."You attacked me!"
"You deserved it!"
Bella grabbed another pillow. "Oh..."
"So that's how we're doing this?"She threw it.
Amara ducked.
The pillow bounced off the wall. Within seconds...
The peaceful bedroom had descended into complete chaos. Pillows flew everywhere. Blankets became weapons.
One unfortunate stuffed bear was launched across the room.
Bella laughed so hard she nearly rolled off the bed. "YOU STARTED THIS!"
"I FINISHED IT!"
Amara lunged forward.
Bella squealed. "Nope!"
She scrambled off the bed and sprinted toward the bedroom door.
Just before leaving...
She turned around with the most teasing smile imaginable."Oh!By the way..."
She grinned wickedly."Have fun at school today telling jessica and other's about your new boyfriend."
Amara froze.
Bella's grin widened. Then she winked. "See you downstairs, lovebird."
SLAM!
The door closed.
Silence.
...
Amara stared at the closed door.
Then slowly buried her face into her pillow.
"Mmmmmmmmm!"
She screamed directly into it.
The pillow absorbed every ounce of secondhand embarrassment.
After a full thirty seconds...
She finally lifted her head."...Bella is the worst."
A pause.
"...I love her."
Amara huffed dramatically before throwing the pillow aside."So annoying..."
She climbed out of bed, stretched until her back gave a satisfying pop, and shuffled toward her wardrobe.
"School... why does school exist so early in the morning..."
She pulled open the closet doors and started searching through her clothes.
"Hmm... burgundy sweater? No..."
"Black hoodie?"
"No, too lazy."
"Blue one?"
"...Maybe."
As she reached toward the upper shelf, something shiny slipped out from between neatly folded clothes.
Flutter.
A piece of thick golden paper drifted lazily through the air before landing right on top of her head.
"...Ow."
Amara blinked.
She slowly grabbed the paper, staring at the luxurious gold parchment."...Since when did I own fancy stationery?"
She unfolded it.
Elegant handwriting shimmered across the page as though written in liquid gold.
Your perks have finally fully awakened.
Have fun and use them well.
-Love, ROB
Silence.Complete silence.
Amara read it once. Twice.Three times. Then she tilted her head.
"..."
"...They... needed to awaken?"
Another long silence. She looked toward the floating green particles.
Then back at the letter. Then back at the particles again.
"..."
"Oh."
Another pause.
"Ohhhhh..."
Her eyes slowly widened."So that's why."
"I've been treating them like random glowing dust this whole morning."
She scratched her cheek awkwardly.
"...Thanks?"
She looked at the letter and gave it an uncertain little nod."Thanks... ROB."
For absolutely no reason, the golden paper sparkled once.Then... Poof. It vanished into tiny golden motes.
Amara blinked.
"...Well."
"That wasn't creepy at all."
She shrugged with complete acceptance.
"Transmigration really does come with strange customer service."
She grabbed today's outfit before glancing one last time at the tiny green particles floating around her room.
"So..."
She smiled mischievously."You guys can heal people, huh?"
The little green lights drifted happily around her fingertips as if answering her.
Amara grinned."This is going to be fun."
Completely forgetting the fact that her mysterious supernatural abilities had only just awakened...
...she happily skipped downstairs for breakfast.
Because priorities. School first. Existential magical discoveries later...
