Chapter 270: First Encounter with Cynthia
A few days later, at the airport in Jubilife City, Sinnoh Region, Ryan and Lillie emerged from the airport. Ryan checked the map and said, "Let's visit Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town first. I heard that Sinnoh's Champion, Cynthia, is also there now. We can battle with her then."
"Champion Cynthia," Lillie said with some emotion. "She was the first female Champion of the League, an idol to all female trainers!"
Ryan said, "I think Diantha was also the Kalos Champion, and Alder from the Unova Region is preparing to resign because of Team Plasma, with Iris becoming the new Champion. These two are also female Champions, why not mention them?"
Lillie shook her head and said, "Because Champion Cynthia is very cool, the first female Champion, and very strong. Although Diantha is a Champion, her strength is quite different from Cynthia's. After all, she's also an actress and can't put all her energy into battles."

Ryan smiled and waved, his Psychic surging forth, instantly freezing Chimchar in mid-air. Chimchar, bewildered, struggled desperately, but couldn't break free from Ryan's Psychic. After all, it was just a starter Chimchar, its strength was nothing to worry about. If it got hurt, Ryan would be in trouble.
Seeing it couldn't break free, Chimchar opened its mouth and spewed out Ember at Ryan. Ryan chuckled, using his Psychic to control the sparks, then turned Chimchar around in mid-air, causing all the sparks to bounce back and hit Chimchar's bottom.
Seeing he'd taught it enough of a lesson, Ryan flicked his finger, sending Chimchar to the researcher, and laughed, "Don't be naughty, or I'll spank you."
Chimchar shrank back in fear; it was genuinely scared. Professor Rowan stepped forward and said, "Oh. You must be Ryan from Pallet Town. I heard your Mercenary Guild is growing bigger and bigger, and you've even formed an alliance with the League. You're quite accomplished at such a young age."
Ryan waved his hand and said, "You're too kind. My fiancée and I are just here for sightseeing in Sinnoh. We thought we'd drop by and pay you a visit."
Lillie also spoke up, "Hello, Professor Rowan, I'm Lillie."
Professor Rowan nodded and said, "Well. Since you're here, you should come and see Cynthia too. She just got the corresponding Mega Stone and is figuring out how to use it. Since you're here, Ryan, you can help her."
Ryan said helplessly, "Do I need to teach her? It's very simple. As long as you connect with your Pokémon's heart, you'll succeed."
Professor Rowan said helplessly, "The main problem is that she's having trouble making decisions. I think the best way is for you to battle her. She's been agonizing over it for three days."
Ryan and Lillie were also speechless. Cynthia's indecisiveness was quite well-known. The two followed Professor Rowan to a battle arena. In front of Cynthia were two Pokémon: a Lucario and a Garchomp. Both Pokémon were equipped with Mega Stones, and Cynthia was torn about which one to Mega Evolve first.
Ryan rubbed his aching temples: "You've been agonizing over this for three days? Cynthia's really something else."
Without Professor Rowan's prompting, Ryan immediately sent out Charizard, saying, "Charizard, Flamethrower!"
Charizard appeared on the field and, without a word, unleashed a pillar of fire towards Cynthia. Cynthia instinctively dodged, and Garchomp, receiving the command instantly, crossed its forearms to block the weakened Flamethrower.
"Garchomp, Mega Evolution!" Cynthia instantly pressed the Key Stone on her bracelet, and Garchomp instantly Mega Evolved into Mega Garchomp.
Its forearms transformed into two sharp, scythe-like blades, which slashed directly at Charizard with Dragon Claw. Charizard's Fire Punch materialized, easily blocking the attack. As the two Pokémon clashed, Cynthia reacted, saying, "You're Ryan, right? Attacking like this is so ungentlemanly! Garchomp, Dragon Rush!"
Mega Garchomp soared into the air, its pale blue Dragon-type energy outlining the shape of a dragon as it charged towards Charizard. Charizard's Fire Punch met it, taking the hit head-on.
Ryan said, "I can't help it, Champion Cynthia, your indecisiveness is really troublesome. This is the only way to make you make a quick decision."
Cynthia said, "Even so, could you at least say hello first? Another Dragon Rush!"
Ryan laughed, "So you didn't notice I didn't attack? Let you vent your frustration first. Charizard, block it!"
Charizard blocked Mega Garchomp's Dragon Rush once again, and Mega Garchomp immediately used Dual Chop, striking Charizard's Fire Punch hard.
"That's enough, Champion Cynthia, don't force me to get serious," Ryan said.
Cynthia smiled and then stopped Mega Garchomp's attack, after which Mega Garchomp transformed back into its normal form. Cynthia looked Garchomp up and down, patted its head, and laughed, "Not bad, I had a target to test its evolved strength. Mega Evolution really can quickly improve a Pokémon's strength, and I can keep it as an ace in the future."
Then, Cynthia turned around and extended her hand to Ryan, saying, "Hello, Ryan. I'm Cynthia, the Sinnoh Champion. Welcome to Sinnoh."
Ryan said, "No need for such formalities, I'm just here for a vacation with my fiancée."
Lillie also said to Cynthia, "Hello Cynthia, I'm your fan, can I get an autograph?"
Cynthia, of course, wouldn't refuse, and the two women started chatting, quickly becoming very animated, completely leaving Ryan and Professor Rowan to the side.
Ryan and Professor Rowan exchanged a glance: Sigh, women!
