Amber felt anger in her veins. She tried to grab Katrina's dress away as she yelled, "I worked hard only to save Chase's life, not to pay for your luxurious dream!"
"Don't touch my precious dress with your dirty hands!" Katrina argued as she tried to avoid it, "You should ask your loser husband for help if you need money for Chase's medical treatment! Aren't you the best at seducing men?"
Amber's anger reached a boiling point and couldn't help but slap Katrina.
"How dare you harm my sweet daughter! You ungrateful bitch!" Valentina tried to grab Amber's hair to fight back.
"ENOUGH!"
A roar sounded at the door, making the women in chaos stop. It was Jonathan Baldwin, the host of the house.
Katrina hurriedly covered her face and ran to her Dad to complain about Amber, "Dad, Amber is jealous that I'm going to marry Kenneth. She's trying to ruin my dress and even threatens to seduce my fiancé."
Amber couldn't believe how shameless Katrina could upside the truth. She wanted to explain but Jonathan didn't give her any chance.
"Amber, apologize to your sister," Jonathan commanded.
"NO! She's never my sister! My only sister is already dead and you even want her only son to die now!" Amber could no longer control her emotions and blurted out.
"Don't talk to me about that little bastard!" Jonathan said in disdain.
A resounding slap was placed on Amber's face, making the corner of her mouth bleed. Nursing her stinging cheek, Amber glared at her father, her eyes reflecting both defiance and hurt. He never did side with her in any circumstances like she never was his daughter.
Valentina and Katrina were smirking wickedly, savoring their victory. Jonathan never fails to please them both.
"Stop glaring at me!" Jonathan said sternly.
"Do you think I should still respect you? You don't deserve to be our father at all!" Amber shouted, anger seeping through her bones.
Jonathan raised a hand to slap Amber again, but someone stopped him this time. Stefan held Jonathan's wrist tight so that he couldn't move an inch close to Amber's face.
"You dare not harm her again," Stefan warned coldly as he noticed the bruise on Amber's face.
"Stefan Morgan? Why are you here?" Jonathan was shocked to see Stefan appear in their residence unannounced.
"I am here to pick up my dear wife," Stefan stated as he gently examined Amber's injured face. "It is clear she is not safe here."
"Does it hurt," he asked softly, tracing a finger on Amber's cheek.
Amber blinked as she answered, "A little."
How could Stefan know she was here? Was he coming here to help her?
Katrina rolled her eyes while looking at Stefan and Amber's sweetness. "Stefan, Father is just disciplining her. If you don't watch her well, she'll easily cheat behind you."
"My wife doesn't need anyone's discipline." Stefan retorted, "Only people who love to cheat were so fond of labeling others as cheaters."
"You!" Katrina balled her hands into fists out of anger. "Well, I don't have to waste my time with any poor uneducated guy like you."
Katrina deliberately scanned over what Stefan was wearing with a look of disgust. Stefan was indeed handsome but couldn't even afford a simple famous brand. No wonder that people called him the unwanted son.
Yet, she would never know all of Stefan's attire was privately customized.
Amber stepped forward as she couldn't bear all this, "You're more like the uneducated one instead. No pretty dress can hide your ugly soul!"
"You!" Katrina wanted to lay a hand on her but having Stefan beside, Amber was like having a group of men protecting her. Her eyes lighted as soon as she glimpsed a figure at the door. "Kenneth!"
"Kenneth, I can't believe Amber purposely came here only to show off with her new husband," Katrina complained, pouting her lips like a child. "Darling, we must find a more expensive wedding gown than this."
Kenneth didn't even care to listen to Katrina as his eyes firmly fixed on the scene of how close Amber and Stefan held each other. Jealousy crept into Kenneth's expression as he observed the evident sweetness between the newlyweds.
Feeling rejected, Katrina changed the topic, "Kenneth darling, what brought you here?"
Katrina's question took Kenneth out of his reverie. Attempting to navigate his complicated emotions, he handed over a family's invitation. "I came to deliver this invitation from the Lauder family."
The mention of the Lauder family, the second grand family in the hierarchy after the Morgan, triggered a wicked smirk on Katrina's face. She immediately grabbed the invitation and showed it to Amber and Stefan.
"Wow, someone fancies himself part of the grand Morgan family, yet you couldn't secure a simple invitation," Katrina laughed, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Stefan sneered. If only they knew that the first invitation of every year was especially for him. He just wasn't interested in this kind of party.
"Katrina, I don't have time for your bullshit," Amber didn't want to waste her time anymore. She came here for a reason today. She stepped close to Valentina, "I don't care if you're having a wedding or a dinner party. I'm here just to get my money for Chase."
Fearing Amber might spill more family secrets, Valentina transferred her some money but whispered a threatening reminder, "Remember, we still have custody of Chase."
Amber fell to heavy powerlessness from the pleasure of success. Afraid that they might abuse Chase because they still have his custody, Amber retreated. It's not the right time to get all her money. She was still lost in her mind as Stefan took her inside his car.
"Let me treat your cheek," Stefan asked as he got ice packs to apply on Amber's cheek.
Amber managed a weak smile, "Thank you. I didn't expect you to be here."
Stefan sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Well, I didn't expect this family drama either. I couldn't stand by and watch when you are still my wife."
Though it might only be a short marriage, Amber was still moved. "Thank you!" She mumbled.
Witnessing her tears, Stefan was taken aback. He intended to say something else, but an abrupt braking caused a jolt, bringing their lips together unexpectedly.
"I apologize for the sudden stop, Mr. Morgan," Norman, who turned to check but caught them kissing, stuttered as he discreetly averted his eyes.
It was awkward when their lips parted. Amber hurried into the house as the car stopped. Stefan was a little behind due to taking a phone call from his friend, Philip Lauder.
When he entered the house, his eyes glided across the transformed rooms of his old house, now exuding a warmth it hadn't seen in years. She successfully made it a cozy home.
Sensing she was bustling about in the kitchen, he approached and enveloped her from behind. Amber squealed a little; her tiny voice was music in Stefan's ears.
"Stefan, what are you doing?" Amber asked, turning to face Stefan. They were so close together, his breath fanning on her face.
"Do you want me to help you get revenge?" He inquired mischievously, his tone suggesting a plan that involved settling scores with Valentina, Katrina, Jonathan, and Kenneth.
"How? What do you mean by that?" Perplexed, Amber sought clarification.
Sporting a sly smirk, Stefan felt a sense of accomplishment.
"A friend invited me to the party at Lauder. I want you to come with me as my wife."
"The Lauder? The same party that Katrina was bragging about?" Curiosity was evident in her tone.
"Exactly. Would you like to witness the look on your family's face when they see you attending the party?" Stefan asked, eyeing for Amber's reaction.
"We will attend together." Stefan stepped closer, his lips almost on hers, "And in return, you need to give me a baby."
