Chapter 11
3rd Person POV
The sudden washing feeling of very cold water struck Mateo who had been unconscious for the longest time.
His body wasn't expecting the sudden pour of water. It succeeded in waking him up in the worst way, leaving him to gape and pant heavily, his body and clothes very wet.
"Where the hell am I?", he muttered under his breath, confused...
Panting, he frantically looked around, searching for something... Someone... Anyone. There wasn't a single sound or noise made apart from the echoes of his heavy pants. The room was dark as well.
He didn't have the slightest idea where he was. He didn't know how he got here either. His mouth felt dry and bitter.
He felt tired as hell.
He couldn't find anyone or see anything substantial due to the bright light bulb directly above that almost succeeded in blinding his tired eyes.
He found it hard to control his breathing. He was tired and restless at the same time.
Mateo tried to be aware of his surroundings and himself first, before he continued asking himself questions of how he got here, and how to get out...
He'd noticed he was sitting on a small, rusted metallic, foldable chair. He tried to get up but he couldn't. He knew he was tired, but there was no way he could possibly be too tired to get up from the chair. He would've fallen at least.
He tried to move his hands, trying to use them to get the water on his face away, but then he realized he couldn't. He tried to move his hands again, but they still didn't budge. He tried to move his legs; they wouldn't budge an inch either.
It wasn't long till he realized he was tightly tied to the metallic chair...
The realization didn't help him a little in calming his nerves down. His heart began racing. He began panicking. He tried moving again - this time, to get out of the bondage, but he failed.
He stared into the open dark space ahead of him, thinking of what to do.
As he gazed into the void, his pupils settled and became wider, helping to see better.
He noticed something
He noticed someone.
He squinted his eyes, shielding his eyes from the over-zealous light bulb above him, in a bid to see better. He wanted to be sure he wasn't seeing things or hallucinating.
"Who's that?", He managed to voice out and he squinted further.
"Come out of the dark and show yourself, right now. Who are you? What do you want from me? Why am I here? Did you bring me here?", He asked on and on, in a weak voice.
"Too many questions", he heard the voice say..
"Well then, why don't you come out so I can see your face clearly? You can at least grant that one wish?", he asked.
He heard the figure snicker in the dark, and there was silence for a while.
"Take a harder, closer look, Mateo. I'm sure you can see me now, hmm?", his tall figure asked, with a hint of mischief in his voice.
Mateo complied and squinted even further. There was nothing else he could do anyway...
There he was, staring at him straight in the eye through the darkness; the person who he'd just tried to betray some hours ago.
"I have to say, for a huge man like you, you were pretty unconscious for a long time. I thought you were dead and gone, and I didn't want that. In fact, I was about to call my doctor to come check up on you", he teased.
Through the darkness, he could see the evil smirk on Paolo' face.
Although Mateo was known as the one of the most badass, ruthless assassins in the country, this wasn't the first time he'd been in this kind of situation.
Considering the number of jobs he'd done, one could say it was impossible for him not to be caught and kept hostage by his own target. He'd been in plenty of these situations before, and he'd gotten out of all of them.
"When my boys informed me that they caught you, I was really sad. Things were not supposed to end like this, Mateo. We were brothers from young. We went through the same training that made us the monsters we are now. We were supposed to be ruling the wolf realm together. Why did you have to turn your back on me and try to kill me for my throne? What did the person pay you? What offer did he give you-"
"Enough with this bullshit, Paolo!!", Mateo suddenly flared up, filled with rage that he couldn't contain anymore. "You fucking left me to die when it was time to succeed your father! You forgot that we were brothers! You forgot the promises you made to me about making me your beta once you'd be king! And you have the guts to talk shit about brotherhood?!! Fuck you!!!", Mateo spat in livid fury.
Paolo chuckled and went back into the darkness. It wasn't long before he came back with a metallic chair. He opened up the seat and sat directly in front of him.
"Let's get straight into business. I don't want to know why you're after my life. I don't want to know why you wanted to kill me. I want to know who sent you to get rid of me. I want you to tell me his plans and reasons, how much he paid you, or what he promised you ", Paolo said, looking him straight in the eye.
Mateo smirked in response.
"You don't want to talk? You don't want to tell me who sent you? Was it a Rogue or rival Alpha? Was it an individual? Or did you just decide to wake up and decide to be after my life?", Paolo asked.
He got no answer in response.
Paolo sighed and got up.
"This will go two ways, Mat...", Mateo heard Paolo say.
"This will either go the easy way, or the hard way. You'll be the one to choose", he said.
Mateo Spat at his face, a sly smirk enveloping his face.
Paola grinned slowly, and brought something out the table close to him.
"This gun - as normal as it looks - has bullets that can go through anything. Not only can it go through anything, it also has poison that starts to eat off the flesh of the victim, and trust me, that process is extremely painful. This...", He raised a bottle up.
"This is a bottle of alcohol. But not just alcohol, Mat. This is alcohol mixed with acid. If it touches any cut, it could make the person die from pain. Now, if we go the hard way, if we're going the hard way, I'll shoot both your knees and pour this solution on the hole until you confess who sent you. The good thing is that it wouldn't be as painful, because you don't have a lot of nerves there. The bad thing is that you'll never be able to work again. So what will it be", he asked.
Beads of sweat started forming on Mateo's head immediately.
"No!." He said, his voice shaking.
"Okay. You chose the hard way. Don't say I didn't warn you", Paolo shrugged and immediately fired two shots into both his knees, making him cry in extreme pain.
"Arrrrghhh!!! Shit!!!"
A sudden gasp of terror came from behind Paolo, and he turned sharply.
Who the fuck was that?
