The day had just begun, and a feeling of positivity was in the air.
Smart had woken up early
He stepped to the window and was enjoying the weather, with those beautiful clouds slowly drifting across the sky.
He loved that feeling when he looked up and saw the different shapes the clouds made - as if they were figures from another world.
He was lost in that gaze when he heard a familiar voice behind the door:
- "Smart, hurry! The kitchen is on fire!" shouted Zoi, his sister, running in panic.
Smart immediately ran, but in his rush he bumped into the table. What did he see?
Zoi had tried to make breakfast... and had burned the pan along with the eggs.
He stood silent for a second
A laugh was about to come from inside him, but he held it back.
He approached her and gently said:
- "Don't worry, sister. I'll make the eggs. Go get ready, you'll be late for school."
Zoi was terrible at cooking. Every time she tried to prepare something, things always went wrong
Smart knew this very well and tried hard to convince her to focus on something else, so they wouldn't risk breakfast.
After calming her down, Smart went back to the kitchen and started preparing a quick breakfast, because they didn't have much time and Zoi had to go to school
He was determined to make sure they both had a good start to the day.
They ate breakfast quickly and both went out immediately.
Unfortunately, the elevator wasn't working, so they had to go down the stairs from the 8th floor.
Zoi started talking and didn't stop until they reached the bottom, while Smart's knees were almost giving out from exhaustion.
- You need to hit the gym! - Zoi said, laughing.
- You've gotten so weak, you can't even make it down two flights of stairs. Have you seen yourself? I'm stronger than you! - She lifted the sleeves of her shirt and said - see my biceps?
Smart gave her a sidelong glance while placing his hands on his waist, barely catching his breath.
- You've got some nerve now! Just a little while ago, You almost cried because you nearly set the house on fire!
Zoi sighed and turned her back to show she was annoyed with him.
- Enough with the complaining... come on, I'll walk you to school, since soon I have to meet Reni and Hani.
- Hurry up now, you're late!
"Ah, why don't you just admit you're going to meet your two loves?" she said, trying to run away - but a hand grabbed her hoodie just in time.
"Hey, you little troublemaker, where did you learn stuff like that?"
Zoi turned to face Smart and pulled that playful, innocent face of hers.
"Hmm... I was just joking..." she said, lowering her eyes like she was completely innocent.
Smart knew her too well and could tell she was just trying to escape the moment - he started smiling to himself secretly.
"Alright, alright... go to school now and behave well!"
After Zoi left, Smart took a deep breath and headed toward the usual café where he met up with his friends every day.
He arrived a bit earlier than usual. He took his favorite seat by the window, dropped his bag on the side of the chair, and relaxed.
While waiting, he pulled out his phone, put on his headphones, and opened TikTok to watch a few viral dance videos.
Watching those kinds of videos was one of his favorite ways to pass the time. A big smile stretched across his face, and without even realizing it, he started moving along with the beat.
He got so caught up in that little world that he completely forgot he was in a café - and he didn't notice the people around him watching in confusion.
Suddenly, a light slap landed on the back of his head.
He looked up, surprised... and saw his two friends laughing out loud, mimicking his dance moves.
They were the typical Reni and Hani - energetic and very funny.
Hani, as always, was a bit messy, carefree, spoke loudly and with his hands, and didn't have a single serious bone in his body. He always had a funny expression on his face that made everyone laugh.
On the other hand, Reni was more serious, focused, and calm, but he never missed a chance to laugh at someone. Even though he was calm, he often liked to crack jokes at the most unexpected moments.
Together, they were inseparable - and to Smart, they were more like brothers.
"Hey, guys," Smart said quietly. "You already know I have a problem when someone touches me... so why do you keep doing it?"
"Okay, okay," Hani said, raising his hand. "We won't do it anymore."
"That's what you say, but you keep doing it..." Smart frowned, a bit annoyed.
"Ah, just don't make that face, or you'll get wrinkles!" Hani laughed loudly, while Reni gave him a look to shut up.
To change the mood, Hani continued:
"Hey, what are you drinking? What's this? I want to try some too!" he said, looking curious.
"This is a Macchiato with cold milk," Smart said with a hint of nostalgia.
"I asked them to make one for me, but it's not the same as in my country..."
Laughing and sharing their usual moments, Smart ended his wait and continued the conversation with his friends.
