Chapter 2 - [2]: Not Being a Trainer This Time!

This Bewear... Kawaki's feelings were complicated. He wondered what would happen if Bewear found out that its trainer was no longer in this world.

Bewear had been very fond of the original owner. When news of his parents' shipwreck came back, it had tried to use the move Pain Split on the original owner to share his grief over losing his family.

Although Pokémon aren't human, in some ways, their perception is incredibly sharp.

Kawaki didn't know if Bewear could sense the change in its "trainer."

Sighing quietly to himself, Kawaki looked around and then said to Bewear, "I'd like to take a look around first."

"Guu~!"

Bewear immediately dropped its broom and eagerly began showing Kawaki around.

It had once been this Daycare's housekeeper Pokémon, and it was safe to say that no one in the world knew this place better than it did!

"You want to give me a tour?" Kawaki was slightly surprised.

"Guu~!"

Bewear spread its arms wide, nodding its head happily as if cheering.

"Then I'll leave it to you, Bewear." Seeing such an adorable Pokémon performing in front of him, Kawaki's mood improved a little.

While it was called a tour led by Bewear, in reality, the human and Pokémon just walked side by side.

This Daycare wasn't very large, divided into two main sections: the Daycare and the inn.

The first floor was a lobby for receiving trainer guests. If trainers visited, they would handle various services at the counter here.

Services like Pokémon daycare, having the Daycare teach certain moves, help with egg hatching, purchasing and helping sell Pokémon eggs, and other such business.

To raise Pokémon, you need a sufficiently large area.

Following the original owner's memories, Kawaki walked past the counter and pushed open the slightly weathered wooden door behind it.

What came into view was an extremely vast open space.

The area was surrounded by wooden fencing, but since no one had maintained it for so long, many sections of the fence had been corroded and damaged by rainwater.

The ground was overgrown with weeds and scattered with jagged rocks. In the distance, there was a small forest and a lake.

From memory, that was where the Water-type Pokémon in the Daycare used to live.

The Daycare in its heyday might not have been particularly prosperous, but it had certainly been lively.

Various Pokémon had lived here, both the Daycare's own and those left by customers. You could see Pokémon everywhere.

But after the shipwreck incident three years ago, everything in this Daycare had been sold off, leaving only an empty shell.

Kawaki got a general picture of the situation.

After touring the Daycare section, Kawaki returned to the lobby.

This building had two floors. The first floor served as a lobby for receiving guests, along with a dining room and kitchen.

The second floor was used as an inn for rest, with six rooms previously available for passing trainers to stay in.

This was because the location sat between Meteor Falls and Fallarbor Town. From the Daycare, it would take a good half day's walk just to reach the nearest town of Fallarbor.

For this very reason, the original owner's parents had opened an inn alongside the Daycare, providing simple food and lodging for passing trainers.

"Meteor Falls... Fallarbor Town..."

So this was the Hoenn region.

Kawaki pushed open each of the inn's doors, checking everything.

Having been uninhabited for so long, every guest room was covered in dust. Besides beds and cabinets, there was nothing else left.

Under these conditions, it would be impossible to house guests.

The kitchen did have some well-preserved cookware and dishes. They'd been stored in cupboards, so they weren't damaged.

The dining room was located in one corner of the lobby. Calling it a dining room was generous, it was really just a few simple wooden tables, also covered in dust.

In the corner, there was also a small wooden door leading to the backyard.

Kawaki walked forward and pushed open the door to see a backyard full of green plants and flowers.

Surprisingly, this area actually had five or six fruit trees planted in it!

The trees were hanging with fruit after fruit. Judging by their appearance, they seemed to be fairly common berries like Pecha Berries, Oran Berries, and Pecha Berries.

This area was separated from the Daycare's backyard and seemed specifically designed for cultivating these fruit trees.

"This place is..."

Following the original owner's memories, Kawaki quickly understood everything.

Because the Daycare was so far from Fallarbor Town, the original owner's parents had specially cultivated this garden for growing berries, vegetables, and various crops to meet the daily needs of both the Daycare and the inn.

Since this was near Fallarbor Town, the massive Mt. Chimney towered here, occasionally dropping volcanic ash that made the surrounding vegetation grow particularly lush.

It's just that with the passage of time, the previously cultivated areas were now overgrown with weeds.

"Such fertile soil really is perfect for growing crops..." Kawaki thought to himself.

Looking at the weed-covered backyard before him, the blood in his veins made him instinctively want to plant something here.

"Guu~!"

Just then, Bewear, who had been following Kawaki the whole time, suddenly ran forward. It stretched out its arms, picked a Pecha Berry from the tree, and then happily presented it to Kawaki.

Kawaki was slightly stunned. Seeing Bewear's expectant eyes, he couldn't bear to refuse and smiled as he reached out to accept it.

"Let's go back to the lobby. I'm done looking around!" Kawaki said.

"Guu~" Bewear had no objections.

In the Daycare lobby, having finally figured out his current situation, Kawaki calmly pondered.

A cheat ability, a Daycare, Bewear...

Making Pokémon happy would earn him rewards.

Truth be told, his cheat ability was pretty well-suited for running a Daycare...

This way, plenty of trainers would bring their Pokémon here and leave them in his care.

As long as he took good care of them and made those Pokémon happy, he could receive "gifts" from them.

Kawaki narrowed his eyes, lost in thought.

As a man who'd grown up watching Pokémon, Kawaki had once fantasized about traveling around with his favorite Pokémon like Ash.

But now, that didn't seem realistic at all.

His pockets were completely empty, he'd starve to death halfway down the road if he left now.

Plus, many aggressive wild Pokémon lived in the wilderness. Without even a starter Pokémon, there was no way he could safely make it to the next town.

Looking at the "Baby-Doll Eyes" TM he'd just obtained, and combining it with the original owner's memories of the Daycare's main business, a plan immediately formed in his mind.

In that case, he'd use this TM to earn his first bit of money in this world.

Then he'd get this run-down Daycare back up and running, make it flourish, and raise a whole bunch of his favorite Pokémon right here!
