Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: The Woman in Black

Enzo's grip tightened on the pipe, his knuckles white as he faced the woman in black. Her presence was sharp, like a blade hidden in the dark. He could see no fear in her eyes—only cold calculation.

"My name," she said smoothly, "is Selene Voss. Once, I sat at Lucius Draxion's table. I know his games, his weaknesses, his empire better than anyone alive."

Enzo blinked, stunned. "You… were one of his people?" His stomach churned at the thought of trusting someone who had once served the Devil.

Selene smirked. "Was. Past tense. I left before he could put his chains around my neck. But make no mistake, boy—Lucius doesn't forgive traitors. He'll come for me eventually. That's why I need you… and why you need me."

Enzo's heart thundered. Every part of him screamed not to trust her, but her words struck deep. If she truly knew the Devil's inner circle, she was the key to finding cracks in his armor. Still, suspicion coiled around his chest. "Why now? Why help me?"

Her expression hardened. "Because I've seen what he does to those who defy him. Matteo wasn't the first, and he won't be the last. If Lucius keeps growing, there will be nothing left to rule—only ashes."

Enzo lowered the pipe, his mind a storm. She could be lying. She could be setting him up. Yet when she stepped closer, her voice a whisper, it chilled him more than Lucius's laughter ever had.

"Enzo Grimaldi," Selene murmured, her eyes locking onto his. "If you want to kill the Devil, you must be willing to become something darker than him."

The words struck like a curse. Enzo swallowed hard, the weight of her offer pressing down on him. Was he willing to become the very monster he despised?
