Chapter 39 - Mother’s Identity

"The twins, Hizashi and Hiashi..." Lucien muttered under his breath. "One cast into the branch family, one into the main. And in the end, Hizashi even offered up his life for his brother. No..." His fists clenched. "I will never allow such a tragedy to happen again."

As if reading his thoughts, the Hyuga servant leading him through the clan's grand walkways spoke softly, "Yes... Hizashi-sama belongs to the branch family, young master."

Lucien's eyes narrowed. Just as I thought...

Soon, he arrived at the Hyuga branch quarters. Traditional walls, sliding panels, and hanging lanterns gave the place a refined atmosphere. Upon a raised platform, Hyuga Hizashi sipped tea at leisure, serene and thoughtful.

"Teacher Hizashi," Lucien greeted with a rare smile. "It's been days. You look even more spirited. Truly poetic and picturesque."

The man chuckled, waving him to sit. "Your tongue grows sharper. But let us get to business. There are two reasons I invited you. First, I've called Kusuo and Hongdie here too—we'll speak of the Chunin selection exam together when they arrive."

Lucien nodded faintly. The real reason still sits hidden behind his calm gaze.

"And the second?" he pressed.

Slowly, Hizashi waved his attendants away until only the two of them remained. Setting down his teacup, he fixed Lucien with a serious stare.

"Shigure... what I'm about to say may shock you. But first, tell me. Are you certain... your eyes are not Byakugan?"

Lucien's lips pressed thin. "No. They are Sharingan. Without doubt."

Hizashi's gaze sharpened. "Or perhaps... you inherited two bloodlines. The Uchiha's Sharingan, and the Hyuga's Byakugan. A fusion."

Lucien froze. Fusion...? Don't tell me...

"My father was Uchiha... but my mother..." His chest tightened. "I've never known her identity."

Hizashi rose, his expression more earnest than Lucien had ever seen. "Your name is Uchiha, the surname of your father. But in truth... you also carry the blood of my Hyuga clan!"

"What?!" Lucien's normally cold composure cracked.

"Think. Your eyes—they mirror our clan's Byakugan. Yet within them also dwell the Uchiha's tomoe. Is this not revelation enough? You hide it because you understand danger. A tree that stands too tall in the forest is cut down by the wind. To expose such blood fusion is to invite death."

Lucien swallowed hard. Every word rang too close to certainty.

Hizashi continued softly. "Am I correct? You have awakened both bloodlines."

Lucien hesitated... then finally nodded. Hizashi had shown no malice, only honesty, only trust. "Yes. Both awaken within me. But why? Why the Hyuga blood?"

His teacher's answer dropped like thunder.

"Because your mother was Hinata Shinku. A daughter of the Hyuga clan leader himself."

Lucien's Sharingan flared wide. "...The clan leader's daughter? My mother was... Hyuga royalty?!"

"Yes." Hizashi's features softened. "Your mother was the clan's beloved daughter. She crossed fate by binding with an Uchiha. Such union between bloodline clans is forbidden. Yet they followed their hearts. Together, they died defending Konoha shortly after returning from the Second Great Ninja War... leaving behind only you."

"My father... Uchiha. My mother... Hyuga. And their records erased for the sake of both clans' convenience." Lucien's voice came bitter between clenched teeth.

Hizashi sighed. "I only learned these truths through Hiashi, my brother. Otherwise, I too would never have known. This was sealed away deliberately."

Lucien shook his head. "Thank you, Hizashi-sensei. If you had lied... if you'd hidden this truth until much later, perhaps I'd have hated you for it. But now... I'm glad you told me."

He thought of Naruto, the child who bore the world's scorn with laughter. Unlike him, Lucien's smile was edged with sorrow and fury. I may share that fate... but I'll carve mine sharper.

"Then... tell me more. About my parents."

Hizashi's tone grew regretful. "That is all I can tell you now. The rest—you would need to seek from the Hyuga head himself. But..." His narrow eyes focused. "Do not think it simple. You will not be acknowledged without force. If you wish to approach the clan leader as the grandson of the Hyuga, you must first defeat me. Best me in Hyuga-ryu Taijutsu, and perhaps the clan will listen."

Lucien's crimson eyes swirled. "I don't need the clan leader's recognition. All I want is the truth about my mother."

"And yet..." Hizashi shook his head helplessly. "The Hyuga... and the Uchiha... both are powerful pillars of Konoha. If your half-blood origin is exposed, both sides could turn against you. Politics is cruel. Our village cannot withstand such fracture."

He looked at Lucien with a rare, honest smile. "Still, Shigure... when I realized our clan's blood ran in your veins, I wasn't afraid. I was glad. Glad enough to teach you. Glad enough to hand you every Hyuga-ryu secret technique I know."

Lucien stared quietly. His heart—shaken, burning, confused—found fleeting stability in his teacher's words.

So. Uchiha blood. Hyuga blood. A forbidden bond sealed away.

And he was their only living legacy.
