Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Erza and Cana's Side

While Statiw and the others were heading to the bandits' hideout, Erza and Cana were already approaching the Green Wyvern's nest. As they got closer, the forest became quieter, and the acidity in the air increased.

"This is already very close to the Green Wyvern's nest. If we get any closer, we'll be discovered." Peering through the gaps in the trees, Erza spotted the cave beneath a low cliff in the distance and decisively stopped.

Cana glanced at the Dragon's cave in the distance, took out a few cards from her bag, and with a wave of her hand, several magic circles flashed: "Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Reaction, Courage, Strong Acid Resistance."

In just an instant, subtle multicolored glows began to shimmer around Cana and Erza. The faintness of the light indicated that the buff and protection spells she cast were not very powerful.

There was no other way; Cana used Card Magic, a type of Holder Magic that relies on various different cards to achieve diverse effects, making it a very comprehensive type of magic.

However, being comprehensive also meant being a jack of all trades and master of none, capable of doing everything but excelling at nothing. Levy and Statiw were similar to Cana in this regard.

Levy used Script Magic, a type of Word Soul Magic that achieves various magical effects through language and text. Like her, Statiw's Pict Magic accomplishes various tasks through drawing.

The broad and comprehensive magic of these three belonged to a different category than Natsu's specialized and refined magic. In terms of destructive power, the three certainly couldn't compare to him, and in terms of overall combat ability, they definitely couldn't compare to Mirajane. However, the advantage of their magic was that no matter what situation they encountered, they had a means to deal with it.

For example, when facing the Green Wyvern this time, the buffs for Erza. Professional support spells could greatly enhance her abilities in all aspects. If the professional support mage were S-Class, they could even boost Erza's abilities several times over and make her completely immune to the Green Wyvern's acid.

However, this wasn't the case with Cana. Although she was also a top B-Class Mage, the buff spells she cast could only increase Erza's abilities by about ten percent, and the strong acid resistance spell could only weaken the Green Wyvern's acidity by about twenty percent.

This level of resistance was sufficient for the acidity in the air around the nest. However, if she were hit by the Green Wyvern's breath, there would be little difference between having this resistance effect and not having it at all.

Clearly, Erza was also aware of the effect of Cana's strong acid resistance. After she finished casting her magic, Erza immediately re-equipped. Her ordinary silver-white knight armor transformed into a set of armor glowing with green luminescence.

With all preparations complete, Erza, holding her long-handled blade, said, "Cana, stay behind me and be ready to provide long-range support. Remember, never face the Dragon's head directly; be careful of its strong acid breath."

"Don't worry, I understand." Cana, realizing the gravity of the situation and that a single mistake could be fatal, agreed with a serious expression.

Then the two headed straight for the Green Wyvern's nest.

At this moment, in the cave beneath the low cliff, a Green Wyvern was resting on the ground. This was a female Green Wyvern, a type of Forest Dragon. A few months ago, humans found her nest and stealthily stole her eggs while she was out hunting.

Although she tracked the scent to the humans who stole her eggs and completely dissolved them with her acid breath, immediately afterward, powerful human mages came to kill her. Unable to defeat them, the Green Wyvern had no choice but to abandon her nest, flee her home, and rebuild a nest on the edge of this forest.

Because of this, this Dragon was extremely hostile towards humans, directly killing any human she saw within her territory. For the same reason, she attracted the encirclement of Erza, Mirajane, and others.

As they approached, the sleeping Dragon suddenly opened her eyes, and a vertical black pupil in the center of her shattered golden eyes abruptly turned forward.

Shaking her body, the Green Wyvern quickly emerged from the cave and sniffed the air repeatedly. Soon, she determined the direction of the intruders.

With a roar, she spread her wings and soared into the sky, flying directly towards them. When she arrived above the intruders, she did not swoop down like other Dragons, but instead attacked them from mid-air with her acid breath.

At the same time, Erza and Cana, who were approaching the Dragon's nest, suddenly heard the roar, and then saw the Dragon flying towards them. Both were startled, but quickly calmed down.

Erza turned to Cana and said, "Immediately hide far away. I will attract the Dragon's attention."

"You be careful, Erza." Cana didn't hesitate and quickly ran in another direction.

A few seconds later, the Dragon flew above Erza, who was ready to face the enemy with her long-handled blade. However, to her surprise, this Dragon did not swoop down as described in the intel, but instead directly attacked her with its breath. This indicated that the Dragon did not perceive her as prey, but rather as an existence that needed to be completely annihilated.

"Erza!" At this moment, Cana, who had run to a distance and was hiding behind a tree, was startled when she saw the Dragon directly using its breath.

The next second, her heart calmed down again. She saw that Erza in the distance had already re-equipped a shield. The magic circle on the shield formed a protective barrier, firmly enveloping her. All the biological strong acid sprayed at her flowed down the protective barrier to the ground, corroding the ground around her into a large pit, from which white smoke with a strong acidic odor was still rising.

Two or three seconds later, the Dragon's breath attack ended. Seeing Erza on the ground still completely unharmed, the Dragon had no intention of continuing to fight. Instead, it immediately turned one hundred eighty degrees in the air and flew directly towards its nest.

However, while the Dragon's behavior was unexpected by Erza, she could not possibly let it leave. At this moment, the shield in her hand instantly vanished into light, and a long magical chain appeared in her hand. She then swung the chain a few times and directly threw it at the Dragon in the air, causing the chain to wrap around its neck several times.

Then, Erza pushed off the ground with both feet, gripping the chain tightly with both hands and pulling with immense force. The Dragon, in mid-air, suddenly paused. The next moment, she had successfully landed on its back. Gripping the chain tightly with her left hand, she instantly summoned a sharp long blade with her right hand. With a single strike, the Dragon let out a mournful cry and plummeted to the ground from the sky…
